Those that it could't play, wouldn't play on my PC with videolan(VLC) either, so I am well happy.
Maybe the quality control is not so good, having read others comments, but I'd be prepared to exchange and see if you get a good'n 'cos if you do this is a fantastic value budget machine which will perform well until the mystical dual freeview receiver with 300 gig hard disc with +, -, RAM dvd recorder for under £200 arrives.
For the moment, my Umax freeview hard drive recorder and the this Technika DVD recorder for archiving is just the job for my first steps beyond VCR + channels 1-5.
The only thing I want Sky for is for watching The Arsenal, and I can go down the pub when they are on and spend the savings on drowning my sorrows (away matches) or on a ticket for Highbury (joy). Well done Wigan and Roman's team.
Watching Arsenal this season - you're gonna need more savings to drown those sorrows !!he's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy !0 -

Anyone else had the problem that if you have a power-cut, you have to reset the date and time afterwards? If so, is there any way round this? I'm thinking of taking mine back and getting the Goodmans one from Netto.0

I have just bought tthe Technika DVD recorder but I cannot install it so that it recognises my cable box. I don't have a TV aerial and watch TV through the cable box all the time. I have connected the DVD recorder to the TV with scart and the cable box is also connected to the TV with scarts. When I am setting up the recorder and I scan for channels it keeps saying no channels found. Can anyone help? I rang telewest technical help but they were hopeless and said they didn't know!!Jane

I think you might have to run a scart lead from the cable box to the DVD recorder. That's what I did with my Sky box anyway. Then from the output scart socket on the recorder to the TV.0 -

Bartman is correct - you will need a scart lead from your cable box to the recorder, and from the recorder to your tv.
The problem with doing things this way (i.e. watching tv only via cable box, and recording via scart) is that you can't watch another channel while you're recording. If you're recording BBC 1 and change the channel to BBC 2 part way through, then you'll end up recording BBC 2 from that point onwards0 -
