    Hey CMD,

Thanks for your message on my diary thread. Hope you had a fab time in Oz (I lived over there for 3 years and loved every minute of it!) And congrats on your baby news. You're doing brilliantly debt-busting so keep up the good work!!

    Hi JMF!

Thanks for the post, was happy to get under 13k today. I have a long way to go before I am at your stage but bit by bit I will get there!

  • Found you! You're a very sporadic diary writer I have to say but reading through it all at once you certainly seem to take it in your stride considering how much you've paid off in the last year, especially with a baby on the way! Must take a leaf out of your book and stop stressing so much about my measly £500 overdraft!

  • Hi Tete,

I am quite sporadic indeed. I am intending to post in here more often though as I need to get more focussed to get rid of this debt so we can have a nice life with the baby!

You are right to get a wee bit stressed about the overdraft though. Things can easily mount up especially over Christmas and it is easy to say 'Oh, I deserve this' etc etc but it is much better to live within your means if you can :)

  • That's definitely one of my downfalls, the 'I deserve it' thing. I think you see so many people around you - colleagues and friends - who are buying new clothes and going on holidays and you think it's not fair that you can't afford that like they can, but in reality they're probably up to their eyes in debt themselves.

Who are you on Dooyoo BTW, I didn't know you were on there!

I am dunner7 on Dooyoo but I haven't used it in ages. It was me that told Dinah about Dooyoo and look how well she is doing now. I tend to make my extra money by doing AQA as I can make £10+ per day so it makes more sense.

Yeah, I fall into the 'I deserve it' trap too. My biggest weakness is travel and going somewhere nice on holidays. The baby will curtail that a bit next year, which is no bad thing!

It's funny cos I have loads of friends who are planning weddings, getting house extensions etc and all of a sudden they have no landline (which I view as a necessity). It's like-why spend so much money on one thing if you can't keep your phone to stay in contact with your friends and family. It baffles me, it really does. Saying that, that probably would have been me a few years ago

Hehe, I'm sure baba will come with plenty of its own expenses don't worry!!

Yeah, they are an expensive thing a baby!

Because we don't live in Ireland we don't get any loans of things like moses baskets etc so we have to buy it all new. My parents bought the pram and OH's parents are buying the cot so that isn't too bad!

Hi Jmf. Happy New Year to you too! How exciting that you are thinking of trying for a baby this year. And it is brill that you will be debt free for it :)

Am starting to get both nervous and excited but sat down with my OH today and we worked out what is needed for the hospital bag and are going to sort that out this week. I still have this cold so I think I am going to make an appointment at the GP tomorrow as it won't shake and I am very stuffed up.

Money wise - I am now under 11K :T:T:T Am delighted with this and hopefully with Virgin having a balance of 0 it won't be too long before they will offer me a 0% balance transfer and then I can pay off a chunk of the loan.

I think my aim this year is to get down to under 6K by Xmas. I also hope to pay 2K off my mortgage (not a huge difference in the interest between the 2) and then hopefully be debt free by Dec 2011. I will do everything I can to get debt free before that though. Then I will start to overpay on my mortgage.

So main aim for 2010 (money wise) is to get to under 6K by Dec 2010, bearing in mind I will be on maternity leave & then am going back to work part-time.
