Scuzz - this is how I make Beef Stroganoff - see if it will help you. Sorry there is no measurements, I have made it for years and never measured anything!
Fry chopped up steak for a couple of mins (I use butter)
Remove from pan and fry onions, after couple of mins add sliced mushrooms. Fry until soft, return steak to pan and season to taste.
Add a glug of wine (think I must use a small glass' worth)
Cook out for 2 mins.
Stir in couple tablespoons of cream then violia its ready.
I believe there are lots of other versions about but it really is nice and simple (off now for a quick snack as made myself hungry)0 -
Hi,
THRIFTLADY, Thank you for the link for Quince Vodka, the amount of Quince I have may be due to living in Somerset. I've never used them as I didn't know what to do.
I usually make Sloe Gin, must check the hedge rows as they are due out. I get some pretty (smallish) bottles and give as Xmas pressies.0 -
Really pleased now! Just had an email from Amazon, they've despatched my 22yr old DD's christmas pressie.......................ELMO LIVE!:T Yep, she is 22, and that's what she asked for:eek: She's always been an Elmo fan, she's got Tickle me Elmo, and loads of other things, I wasn't sure that I could get it for Christmas, as it's gonna be this years toy, but Hurrah!
Going to have a nap now, to make up for last night.;)I Believe in saving money!!!:T

i approached this thread with a little trepidation after all the turmoil yesterday. But Ladies you have done yourselves proud as I havent had such a good laugh in ages.I'm not sure if the jibes were intentionally humourous but I found them so and justifiably in my opinion.Well enough of that I wouldnt want to be accused of chatting:rotfl:
I'm afraid that I was thinking the opposite.
Thinking about this this morning while reading the thread it upset me to see so many comments like "I see we're still here then" and "Oops, better not chat".
The Board guides opened a thread for debate yesterday as they had been approached by some posters who were not happy with the Daily Thread. They did not threaten to close it or move it so jibes about that are unjustified. They asked for opinions and they got them.
I for one DID state that I didn't enjoy the Daily as much as before for some of the reasons highlighted so I feel that the sarcastic comments on today's thread are aimed at the board guides and people like me who admitted that we weren't as happy on here any more. IMO there is always room for chat on here and I was guiltier than most of taking the thread off topic on some evenings but I didn't believe the Daily should be more chat than OS.
I feel that if I were to post about my Old Style day today I would be ridiculed for my old style ways. Well I have been posting on here for 2 years precisely because of my Old Style ways so if that attraction is gone then what reason am I left with to post? It goes without saying that I have made fabulous friends on here who I wouldn't be without but I don't have to post on the Daily to keep in touch.
For that reason, and the fact that I am a littled spooked by how many people are reading the thread, forming negative opinions of us and yet not posting, I am bowing out. Sorry to bring this back up today, particularly when there are so many new posters on here but I didn't want to just disappear
This is not a hissy fit but merely an explanation of why I won't be around on this particular thread.
Take care everyone and thanks for the fun and advice I've had on here.

Haribo, I will be sorry to see you go, I love your humour, take care of yourself.
There are lots of people missing today, I think what happened yesterday has shaken everybody up a bit, dont get me wrong I am in no way blaming the BG, they do a fantastic job, and I for one would be lost without them. I do understand why they asked people for opinions, its just a shame it turned into a bun fight.
OS today, I have tidied through house, hoovered and mopped floors, star dropped the kitchen and bathroom, chops are in sc, pots and veg done for tea, and I have made a coconut cake.
Welcome to new folk, and hugs to Jackieo, hope your recovery is swift xx0 -
Felt quite good earlier and prepared our dinner tonight.
Having a duvet day trying to get over this cold and our stressful summer.
There seem to be a lot of harsh posters on the forums today (not this thread) and it has upset me.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

Just wanted to say welcome home Jackie O and I'm glad everything went well, you really are an inspiration with your positivity.
Well OS this afternoon I haven't done a lot, well a bit more baking, I'm loving all the different food ideas on here today, goats cheese cannelloni yum, meal plan for next week I think! Friend came round and hooray things are all sorted out, sorries were said and horrible mix up was sorted out, sorry for going on about the saga! We tried out dd2's fab shortbread and agreed it is far superior to mine, lol, bless her she bakes almost everything for the lunchboxes at the mo.
Friend has volunteered to sort out my fence so we stood and inspected it a bit, needs cementing in! Now I'm sure beth could nip over and give a hand in one of her spare mins from knitting spaghetti!
Haribo, I shall be sorry to see you go, your posts often reduce me to fits of laughter, and please don't think that we would ridicule anything you post cos of it's os-ness, I think people are still in a bit of shock from the way the other thread went yesterday and are trying to inject a bit of humour. I hope you will rethink it.
Just a quick bargain for anyone who uses lots of storage containers, prob all of us, Morrisons have got their own version of lock n lock on offer at half price at the mo.
Edit: sybil, hope you're gonna post, I like hearing about your os adventures and how little bear is doing xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Hi all
I'm what you'd call a part-time OS'er. The values are inscribed on my brain, very much because my father is very much OS himself - he calls it 'old fashioned'
However, you know how life gets in the way? That's me. I WANT to be much more OS, lots to do with money but also I am 22 weeks' pregnant and very, very, very tired, and with an OH and two DDs aged 4 and 2 to look after/cook for/do everything for (I'm a stay-at-home mummy at the mo and still feel I could use my time and efforts more productively though.)
So I'm asking... I need a series of gentle steps to help ease me back into OS properly. For example:
***I have started to bulk out meals with veggies, lentils, and whatnot. Thing is, stuff I would make extra portions of to freeze and use later (something I really need to be doing) is not necessarily what DDs would eat, eg veggie lasagne. Also OH is a meat-eater and me and the girlies are veggie, so problems! He doesn't mind eating veggie but does like some meat sometimes to accompany or go in a meal. I'd love to have a stakc of frozen HM meals in the freezer but not sure how to start doing this to cater for all without making a tonne of work for myself!
***How can I organise my day so I don't spend so much free time doing housework and I have more to spend with DDs? DD1 is at school and DD2 is 2 so she's at home with me, but I feel like I spend so much time trying to tidy, wash up, vaccuum, do laundry at the expense of quality time with her. And I don't do housework in the evenings because I know it's doomed to fail because of how tired I get!
All gentle steps and ideas welcomed!Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

Hi all!
Welcome to all the newbies and returnees, it's great to have you here!
I just sat here wondering whether to make my font smaller so my posts would be shorter and then decided I would continue as usual. :rotfl:
Truth is, I read every post on the 'comments' thread and was upset by some of the anger that seemed to be aimed over here but as they say, 'I may not agree with what you are saying, but I wholeheartedly support your right to say it'
I have noticed some posters writing less today so I have less to reply to but wanted to send a big hug to everyone and I hope those who need support on here will not stop asking for it! And yes, I have always loved the OS tips and recipes on here as I am a relative newbie to this world.
Ref a couple of bargains out there - for storage, Morrisons have their 'lock n lock' for half price at the moment and we have indulged in a few! Plus I tried the Lidls grated cheddar this week - £2.09 for 400g and as long as you take it out of the fridge about 30 mins before you put it into sandwiches, it is very tasty. For cooking of course you can use it straight from the fridge.
We had diet coke chicken last night with rice. It was very easy to make though I found it a little sweet. I may add some fresh chillis to it next time to give it some zing.
Ok, well theand the bread maker is on so all is well in Divaland...:rotfl:
to all and congrats to those celebrating today.

Edit: I see mummysaver was there with the storage boxes before me, sorry for the repeat, and Haribo and Sybil, please do not leave us, you are such a part of this thread and we all love you!To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.0
