    Morning everyone

Hi to the newbies and returnees (sp?) :hello:

Weather looks a bit yukky here, so thats the washing hanging round the house then! Have just made some Twinks and as I was getting them out of the oven a couple went splat on the floor. I have rescued them and put them back with the rest, as my nan used to say, what the eye don't see the heart don't grieve about. As OH doesn't read this thread he will never know :rotfl:

Going to put shepherds pie base in SC so probably have that for tea tonight. Since I've started this job where I start work at 12.30 I don't eat breakfast but have a brunch about 11.30 not sure what I will be having yet, depends on what I find in the fridge.

Am just about to root through the freezer and decide how many meals I can make out of what is in there. We seem to have spent too much this month already. Am heading over to the mealplan thread for ideas. (It doesn't help that OH does not eat anything spicy) I get fed up with casseroles :D

The wedding we went to on Saturday went well, For some reason after I put my jacket and hat on I thought I looked like Eliza Doolittle :rotfl:I've put some pics on FB.

  • Morning all,

Have to spend all day in waiting for a delivery - so will be house cleaning and baking:T .

Lunch - the kids have taken beans and sausages in their flasks (I keep a couple of tins in for emergency mornings) with a tub of grated cheese to sprinkle over, HM bread, melon and apple juice (ds1 has an Alpro soya pud as well). Dh will be raiding one of the cans of soup he keeps in his office and I shall have salad.

Dinner -spinach and goats cheese cannelloni in a tomato sauce with salad.

WM will be on in a minute - although it doesn't look promising for drying. Will also make no1 dog go and work for his living in a mo - there is a mouse in the garage behind the woodpile - no point in having a terrier if he can't be useful occasionally:D

Baking will include parkin today as I have decided to start cooking more from my Lancs/ Westmorland roots - inspired by the new Rose Prince book -"The New English Table"

    Have a good day everyone.

  • Hi Everyone,

first post on the OS daily. Bizarrely it was the "other" thread that made me decide to venture over:confused:. I always intended to post but now it seemed more 'urgent'. Its always just me and the dog at home so its nice to know that there are others out there. I'm not online that much though so I hope i'm not being rude if I disappear after a while.

sooo..have at least 3 loads of ironing waiting for me thanks to last weekends drying weather, then i'm going to sort out my wardrobe. Tonights dinner will be exclusively vegetables. Roasted pumpkin, BN squash and parsnips....but we will have HM rice pud to follow (Delia's recipe). That should rebalance the calorific universe.;)
Goals: Have a Homemade Christmas 2008, lose a 1 and a half stone, be thankful for everything I have.

  • me again. I have a question but i wasn't sure if i should start a new thread...

when you ice a biscuit or a cookie how do you get the icing to set hard so if you wanted to put them in a jar or packet the icing wouldn't rub off???

thinking ahead to my Christmas cookies and i want to do a practice batch. I won't eat them for my lunch, i promise...

I'm not sure you can HGTA(got that hymn going through my head now:D )I think that it's something food manufacturers do to their icing. I would either coat in melted chocolate, refrigerate and store somewhere cool once hard, or I'd sandwich biscuits together with the icing in the middle. Royal icing made without glycerin sets rock hard but I don't think that would be very nice on a biscuit.

Thriftmonster I love the idea of hot sausage and beans as a packed lunch. I know my kids would enjoy it too but there seems to be an unwritten rule at my boys' school which says 'your lunch must be a ham or cheese sandwich or you are commiting social suicide'

I've got my stock on the boil, gosh it smells gorgeous mmm... My bread and roll dough is rising and I have just picked a few more raspberries and some michaelmas daisies, sedum and rose hips. The flowers look lovely in a brown stoneware jug.

    Morning all,

HowGreatThouArt..(love the name) welcome...I think that icing needs to be thick as possible and you need to leave it to set in a warm place...I have found before that the damp weather you get from now to Christmas can make icing more difficult to set...sure that someone else will have an easier solution than changing the weather!

Welcome to all other Newbies...sorry I am so bad at names.

Glad to see that daily looks reassuringly familiar...welcome back to those who have been MIA

Braised steak for dinner, antipasti with salad and brown bread for lunch....have guests and most of stuff in store cupboard.

Nothing else to report from Mean Mansions

Hugs to all in need and congratulations to all who are celebrating

Scuzz has reminded me that I meant to say to Morwenna that quinces are indeed available now -Waitrose is probably your best bet. They tend to be from Turkey rather than the UK. Failing that, try a farmshop;)

This year has been a disaster for UK Quinces. Many of the crops have failed, both the commercial crops (eg from Kent) and the home-garden ones.

Tiptree are apparently struggling to find UK supplies.
