This year has been a disaster for UK Quinces. Many of the crops have failed, both the commercial crops (eg from Kent) and the home-garden ones.

Tiptree are apparently struggling to find UK supplies.
Well that explains why I've only had a handful from my tree. Remind me Dannahaz -was it you who planted a quince tree a couple of years ago or am I confusing you with someone else?

Damsons are thin on the ground too so no damson gin for us this Christmas:sad: I've got enough quince for the quince vodka thank goodness.

Good morning all, grey here so good job I've not got washing that needs hanging out, it can sit in the basket for another day!

Hoovered the house to withing an inch of its life, where does all the fluff comefrom?! BM and DW and yoghurt on the go, used up left over mini bananas in a banana and cinnamon cake, baking in moski now, hope it works as I made up the recipe!

Just eaten some leftover lasagne for brekkie, well there's no room in the freezer and I didn't want to throw it out, I know excuses, excuses! Dinner tonight is bacon in cheese sauce with veg cakes made from Sunday's leftover veggies.

Have binned/recycled loads of junk that had collected again, and squeezed all the extra store cupboard stocks into new homes, open any cupboard in this house and you take your life in your hands lol! Got more ironing to do, when haven't we all! And a friend is coming over this afternoon- yep the one I need to sort things out with, so hopefully pouring a cuppa on troubled waters will work!

Anyway coffee and a catch up now, hope you are all well and hugs to those in need. Marie, I hope Ulick is trying harder to become a model patient! x

yes, it's me - thank you for remembering. . My Quince tree is several years old now, we had our first quince last year and had high hopes for a proper crop this year. It didn't work out that way at all; I was speaking to a lady who specialises in Quince preserves (I met her when I went to get some apples identified at an apple day) and she's the one who told me about the Quince crop disaster this year. Her whole business is Quince related, so it's not good for her!

I hope next year is better as I want to try my hand at Quince cheese.

Our Damsons were pathetic this year as well,. I assumed it was because we had disturbed them by putting a fence behind them last winter, but maybe it's more widespread.

Fortunately I made lots of Blackcurrant Vodka liquer (a bit faffy to make, but tastes fantastic) and plenty of Raspberry Vodka in the summer, so I will be using those over Christmas.

Have made a loaf already in the Panny and trying to decide what to do with these last few apples from my brothers tree.I dried most of them and we've had Apple Pie this week already..might do a strawberry and apple cobbler in the slowcooker
Washing is dry but that means I've got to iron all the shirts

    Morning all.
Thanks AussieLass- I will try those soon :)
Hope all are well and for those of you in pain or strife, I send you hugs (and a big bar of virtual homemade fudge too ;)).
Been busy, doing washing, folding washing, just about to put away washing, took DS a walk with his reins on and to the park (cheap but fun way of entertaining him!), going to bake something later- maybe Aussies biccies ;).
I was impressed with those who said they hand washed a lot (was it thrfitlady and some others ? sorry, bad with memory and names these days)- I lived without a machine for a year a while back- washed in the bath and it was fine, but the rinsing did my hands no favours! Got to say my WM is my one luxury I could never do without :o - no tumbler or dishwasher though so not too bad :). Does it not tire people out doing this ? (don't think my back could take it!).
Ok, enough waffle, take care everyone,

Had a low carb brekkie done in the Remoska and DD is on a training day so is off from school and gone to see friends.

Have roast pork and potatoes that can be done in the moskie for tonight and might make chicken and veg later as well for those that turn their nose up at pork.

Enjoying a cup of tea and a browse on here while trying not to nibble something as "my teeth are bored!"

DD has birthday at weekend but do not know yet if she will be able to come home.

Have ordered some early birthday and Christmas presents from Amazon as they have 60% off in a tenth anniversary sale- saw some gorgeous pendants and earrings that DDs will love (at least I hope that they do!)

Hugs to everybody that could do with one.

  • Hello All

Havnt caught up with the thread yet so apologies for anything major I may have missed. Internet went down Sunday and has only just come back!! All due apparantly to AOL changing over to TalkTalk. I have missed it soo much and have been in a terrible mood.

Anyway all working now (fingers and everything crossed) have caught up with some business banking & such like today should do some more paperwork but actually going to sit down for a while as have dodgy stomach.

House is quite presentable and have only a small amount of ironing so that can all wait.

Grilled pork chops with jacket spuds tonight.

    Hope you are all well.

    Hiya :hello:

    Hurray, we're still here then?:D
I read yesterday's heated thread about the daily and decided not to contribute. I only get time to post every now and then but I do read it most days as it's nice to see how everyone is. Maybe we need an OS pub/cafe/tea-room place where we can have a natter...:rotfl:

Hugs and hope you're feeling better soon to JackieO and Hillstep.

The weather here is damp so the washing is on the racks and I'm also using the TD. I am in the middle of cleaning/mopping/hoovering/tidying/re-arranging dust etc so I'm having a 5 minute break before I tackle the bathroom.

Lunch is leftover pasta and tea will be chicken chasseur(sp) with lots of veg and I'll make some fruit smoothies.

I'm also in the middle of preparing my school harvest festival which is on thursday and has become my responsibilty this year. I went to Aldi yesterday and bought some of their 39p potatoes, onions, cabbage and cauli for the harvest table. The pupils have been donating tins and packets too and afterwards we take the food to the elderly in the local area.
Right that's all from me, so have a great day! :D

    Afternoon Ladies

i approached this thread with a little trepidation after all the turmoil yesterday. But Ladies you have done yourselves proud as I havent had such a good laugh in ages.I'm not sure if the jibes were intentionally humourous but I found them so and justifiably in my opinion.Well enough of that I wouldnt want to be accused of chatting:rotfl:

Been a quiet morning here as I've been in search of some large sturdy storage boxes for the kids craft stuff and various bits of kit. Most of the storage boxes are either too flimsy or the wrong shape for what I want.I finally found a couple of tuff boxes in Halfords for £7.99 each which fit the bill.I could have got some cheaper ones but its not very OS to have to replace them every couple of months.

Tuna Pasta Bake out of the freezer for tea as its Parents Evening.

DD is your son still bedbound? If he is the poor mite must be soooo bored by now! and whats this scandalous rumour about you meeting real people:eek: You know thats not allowed:rotfl: .I got some of the cubed turkey from Morrisons at 50p per 1/2lb so might use that for a turkey and ham cobbler. Thanks for the tip

JackieO I'm glad that your home after the op and wish you a speedy recovery

    Good afternoon everyone,

Nice to see everyones posts today - lots of OS stuff as well as the other bits, its great!!!

Sat with the baby on my lap at the mo, so need to be quick!

Had a lady come round today to help me catch up with OFSTED stuff, its all confusing and a pain, but never mind. So, nothing much OS done so far. I need to get the BM on - washing was done and hung around the house this morning before the school run so at least i got something done. I also need to do some dusting and hoovering, but not sure if the baby will give me that time, so maybe when ive done the afternoon school run i might get something sorted then.

Breakfast was toast made with HM granary bread.
Lunch was an apple and half a tin of spaghetti (left over from yesterdays dinner)
Dinner will be HM chicken curry.

Nothing much else happening here, wish i had more to report, but never mind!!!

    ((HUGS)) and :hello: to everyone,
    Have a lovely afternoon,
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
