Scratching my head about Sky+

Hello
My DD has asked for Sky+ (???) for her Christmas present. I did the Google thing and found out what it was. (Is!!). I can see it is a box that does stuff for the TV... All going good here! My question is - I always thought Sky was a dish on the outside of the house... So, if she wants Sky+ do I buy her the box and wrap it up for Xmas, and then plug it in and away she goes. Or is this whole idea requiring me to employ a nice man (or woman) to clamber around outside my lounge window prior to Christmas, in order to install a dish thing? In which case - no 'surprise' on Christmas morning...
Can anyone explain to me in the most un-technical way possible, how to achieve 'Sky+' for Christmas.
Thank you!

you will need to get it installed through sky here http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyproducts/getsky
No suprise im afraid, but get it as close to xmas as possible, but then there may be deals on now that wont be available around xmas time."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

I have read the information on their website about Sky +, but it seems to assume some prior knowledge. I really do not have a clue. What do I have to get installed?0

For example:
What do I need to order Sky?
You need a BT landline and a television to enjoy Sky TV.
So presumably that's to get Sky and you need something else for Sky+?0 -
No you don't need anything else, except a bigger budget!
Sky + gives you the ability to record up to two channels simultaneously on its hard disk drive, whilst watching one that you have recorded. it can also pause and rewind live TV.
It can do this because it has twin satellite tuners built in and has twin feeds from the LNB that is part of the satellite dish.
You have to be a Sky subscriber to continue to use the recording facility, minimum is £17/month for a single entertainment mix.
You can achieve a similar capability with Freeview (Terrestrial via an aerial) by buying a personal video recorder or PVR, google for the Humax 9200 as an example of the breed.
Freeview is subscription free, but you may need an aerial upgrade. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
OK, so do I sign up for Sky and then buy a Sky+ box to go under the Christmas tree? Which, once it has been unwrapped, I plug in and away we go...???0

No, you get the box delivered by the Sky Installer when he/she installs the dish, sadly it isn't like buying a box of choccy's.0 -
Don't forget to factor in the subscription charges for the channel package you choose.0

What happened to an Orange and a Tupney piece for xmas.!!!
A sky box will cost £99 for one, and free installation at the moment
Plus subscription costs that have a minimum of 12 months contract.
here are the packages
