Interesting post. However, as we are adults is it not up to us what WE CHOSE to post about ourselves & our own lives
?
If you're doing it in the full consciousness that you might be identifying yourself, that is indeed your choice. And if you only ever talk about yourself, your own feelings, your own actions etc, then that's your decision too. And if you're prepared to be identified, and aren't bothered about it, then keeeep posting uninhibitedly (apologies to Tess and Bruce).
However, once you've made yourself identifiable, that makes those around you identifiable too. So, would it be fair to tell the whole of cyberspace that your (identifiable) husband is a cross dresser; that your (identifiable) teenage son cries hinself to sleep since being dumped; that your (identifiable) teenage daughter has had an abortion; that your (identifiable) elderly mother suffers from incontinence; and so on?
As individuals, whether adults or not, I do think that they have a right to privacy.
So it's not quite as simple as 'adults choosing what to post about themselves and their lives', IMO.
(All of the above is intended to be general, and hopefully doesn't reflect any real-life stories on here).0 -
I have had a very stressful summer, so not posted as much as I used to.
I used to post on the thread and get ideas and hopefully inspire others.
Has there been some bullying or have there some inappropriate comments on there? I have noticed other areas of the forum have changed lately and it doesn't feel as friendly as before. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

No bullying or anything like that, just that some posters would like to see a bit more OS on the daily. Nothing wrong with that.
So the BGs asked everyone. Nothing wrong with that either
But it seems to have turned into a thread about thanks counts and what info you should give about yourself
I'd like to see a bit more OS on there TBH, though I'm the first to admit to chatting too much about non-OS stuffHaving said that, I'm happy if the decision is to leave it the same. I don't mind.
Not sure why people think the Daily might be moved to the Arms, or even got rid of altogether?I am a coffee bean0 -
Afternoon all
oohh this debate seems to have pushed some buttons
I used to post on the daily, and I loved it.... the only reason I haven't posted on there for a while is that between posting on the grocery challenge, weightloss and weezls threads -I don't have timewell not if hubby is to get fed when he gets home from work :rotfl:
I have to say that even though it had been a while since I posted on there -the number of PMs I got from people who I really only crossed paths with on THAT thread, when I lost my sister to cancer recently took my breath away -So for me they are a lovely bunch :T
Right I will shuffle off nowin fact I might even start making the effort to poke my nose through the daily door again -now there's a threat :rotfl:

Now, maybe just maybe you have got me on a bad day but I can see no reason why posting information should be censored to the extent you suggest-like I said we are presumably all adults and what we chose to post is entirely our own choice.
As I said , perhaps just perhaps you got me at a particularly sensitive time, and yes to a point I agree-I today removed something very personal that I had posted BUT I did that because I WANTED TO DO SO.
Anyway, I have had enough now-spent yesterday in tears and now just rather "fed up" with the whole lot.
Not sure if its worth bothering with any more.
Thanks.Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

Get a grip. How has it got to THIS?????????0 -
COOLCAIT
You state that you have never even dipped into the thread so,
1) How do you know that personal info IS being disscused without any names being mentioned.
2) That we are not totally anon.
3) You state that you do not read the thread, so why make comments that bear
no relationship to the discussion as to whether there is too much chat on there.

I have been truly saddened reading some of the posts above, particularly earlier in the thread.
I just wanted to say that the last few years have been hellish, the loss of our tied house and the subsequent court case, the ups and downs of adjusting our lives and jobs, the deterioration in Eric's health and his death following the surgery that was supposed to make everything better.
Since I found the 'daily' I have been embraced and welcomed by the most wonderful community of people that I only know through their words written on the screen in front of me. These people have helped me in so many ways (by reading their posts and picking up tips and recepies) but much, much more than that they have truly behaved in an Old Style Community way and rallied around me with their care and kindness when I have needed it most. Long after my friends and family have slowed the visits and the phone calls these guys still take the time to think of me and how my children and I are coping.
I am not a hard-core Old styler and never will be - I am far to occupied with working and bringing up our children but I do my best, I cook from scratch as often as I can, I love my SC (thanks to the daily) my house is clean, my shopping bill is much lower, I am currently trying to decorate and I am proud of these things.
Maybe I do waffle onand for that I am sorry. I would be sorry to see the daily change from it's current form.
Thank you to all who 'live' on the daily' :T :T :T :T

If it is busy and well-subscribed, then I don't really see the problem with letting it continue, as long as the regular posters are friendly to Newbies and Occasional Visitors (like myself!) - and I have to say that IMHO OS is the friendliest board on MSE, so I have no reason to think that they wouldn't be.....
i agree - this is the point i was trying to make earlier - just not as clearly:o

If there is something you wanted to know just pop in say "Hello" and ask.
Someone will usually reply or p.m. you.
I do - and you're right someone always does.
i think i didn't make what i wanted to say clear enough but just to be perfectly clear now - i agree with what Fairyelephant says.
the main problem for me is time - i'm in grocery challenge, payment a day challenge, etc but i think i might have to pop in to say hello every so often now - freedom of speech and all that
