Calling Old Stylers; what are your views on the Daily Thread?

I am more of a reader than a poster on the whole, but I agree that most boards need a more free form "chat" area if only so that "chat" doesn't become a problem on other threads.
Being of a more taciturn, less sociable nature myself I do not post on The Daily Thread, but I can see that it performs a function. I can also identify with those who don't enjoy the conversation, or feel excluded.
However, beyond asking people to try and keep things broadly on topic as the Board guides have done I don't think there is a solution to this.0 -
Well some of this is all a bit dramatic.
I don't like the daily thread and I find it utterly baffling why anyone would merely post 'hello' in a thread (cue the next page of hello so-and-so *presses thanks*) if you're going to post, then why not actually say something?
If that thread has saved your life/cured your acne/made your cornflakes crunchier, then good for you. However the endless nonsense that sometimes goes on serves only to push other threads further down the page so they are easily missed.
Whatever is said, it's clear that the thread is going nowhere so why bother with all this? I and many others will continue not to read, those who do will continue to post in and we can all go back to pretending to love each other because the idea of any discord immediately causesfaces all round.
Same time next year?0
