I could hardly have asked that - I'd have been shot down in flames and accused of haveing decided the outcome before anyone was allowed to give their views
Churchmouse - no, you can't freeze milk, dear, not until you're a much more experienced Old Styler :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Have a lovely day, all of you, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
i have to admit as a relative newbie - i thought the daily thread was only for chat - i've never contributed because it does feel a bit 'cliquey' (is that a word?) and don't feel able to comment as some of the chat is very long standing and it would take too long to catch up.
i look for hints and tips elsewhere - there always seems to have been a specific thread anyway(and someone who knows where to point me)
i agree with the people who say you won't be able to please everyone and surely it's natural for threads to develop into something else or end? otherwise it would just churn out the same comments time and time again.
good luck with trying to sort this out

my twopenneth, for what it's worth, is "if it ain't broke, why fix it?"
i am a very infrequent poster, mainly due to time constraints, but a long-time OSer and reader of the thread, usually on a daily basis. i love it, just as it is:D
it is a warm snuggly place to return to after a stressful day at work, it is a meeting of people of similar persuasions, it is a non-judgemental and supportive forum-which is integral to being OS.
i feel i have a bunch of friends i can refer OS queries to, and they will know where i am coming from, unlike my friends in the "real" world, none of whom share my OS ethos. if there is a load of chat, i skip over it, but to be honest. i am such a nosey cow, i don't like to risk missing out on anything, so i usually read the lot!!!!:rotfl:
please leave it as it is if at all possible, but if not, i will bow to majority decision, i know pink and penny will do the right thing by the OSers.
edit to say that although i hardly post, have never felt excluded or ignored, but welcome and accepted.Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....0 -

just to clarify, was the above statement directed at me or the thread in general?
Thanks
Jabberwock
oh dear, just seen this so didnt reply earlier, it wasnt directed at anyone i didnt even look who posted before me it was just meant to bring a bit of lightheartedness into things
thanks to all who replied for me :A
if this is all we have to worry about then we are all extremely lucky and its not directed to anyone in particular0 -

I think without many of the old time posters, we don't have anything to 'aspire to' (like MrsM on GC). Basically, without some hardcore OS-ers around talking about knitting yoghurts,I have no one to make me feel guilty and get up and actually do something! That's just me though - I don't find the thread as inspirational as it used to be - I used to have a diary which I filled with any OS tips I found from the Daily, but don't have time to keep it anymore
There IS a clique on OS - I think it's called 'the hussies' (possibly from one of our wild Saturday night party's?- I'm not in it btw) but the daily welcomes new posters. As for mentioning people, I often just look at the text people have written and don't even see who has written it. Often I can tell by the writing style etc, so that is why I don't mention people. We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
After enforced time away from MSE due to no internet I have now found this thread.
Disappointing to see that this has happened again.
Anyway time for my opinion - I love the OS thread, I do find it motivating and interesting. Have to admit though I generally post early in the day so I miss a lot of the so called chatty threads.
Perhaps it would be better if the Board Guides PM'd people who were taking the non os chat a bit far and pointed them in the right direction. Apologies if this cant be done because of time constraints - I know you lot are volunteers.
I am another one who would definately not post if the thread was moved to the Arms.
I apologise as I was guilty of a post last week that really should have been on another board. However I did post it on the daily as I do count those people as friends. However hopefully I will be good and not do it again.
In a way I wish the Thanks count be removed, I certainly do not place anything by it.
Anway thats it for me, I have to admit though I have been shocked at the anger and nastiness in some of the posts - very sad.0 -
I'm mainly/mostly/totally a lurker on the OS board. Maybe because I'm too busy learning to act OS...;) I've never even dipped into the daily thread, because I've been too busy keeping up on this board and others.
Whatever the in and outs/rights and wrongs of 'chat' threads, or the daily thread, my biggest concern about them is the amount of information people give away about themselves  .
Why call yourself 'anonymousgal', for example, if you're going to tell casual browsers the following (hopefully all of this is made up, and doesn't reflect real-life posts! If it does, then point made... ):
- you're 'x' years old
- you live in 'y' town/city
- you're single/married/living together
- you have/don't have children
- you work for organisation 'z'
- you had an appointment with the doctor/dentist/hospital/optician today/yesterday/last week
and so on.
They say that there are six degrees of separation between anyone on the planet. So, how hard would it be to recognise someone from the above? Never mind some of the very specific personal details which people give out on the internet - especially when they feel that they are with 'like-minded people' or people who will 'understand' them, or when they need support?
Completely forgetting that all of their messages can be read by anyone at all...!
For that reason alone, I'd be quite happy to see 'chat' frowned upon and deleted!
Interesting post. However, as we are adults is it not up to us what WE CHOSE to post about ourselves & our own lives?

As I don't have much spare time, I don't normally post on the Daily thread - in fact it is an aspiration of mine to be able to work and do less and have time to be more OS and to join in with stuff like this thread!!!!!!.......In fact I haven't even had time to read the whole of this one either, but just wanted to add my two penn'orth.....
I have read the 'over the garden fence' sticky and assumed from that that the whole point WAS that it was a chat thread!?! If it is busy and well-subscribed, then I don't really see the problem with letting it continue, as long as the regular posters are friendly to Newbies and Occasional Visitors (like myself!) - and I have to say that IMHO OS is the friendliest board on MSE, so I have no reason to think that they wouldn't be.....The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

If there is something you wanted to know just pop in say "Hello" and ask.
Someone will usually reply or p.m. you.
I have found most of the stuff that has been helpful to me on the daily thread as a throwaway comment rather than seeking it out specifically.

Glad to hear everything is going well for you - nearly spat my coffee out on the keyboard at your original comment."This site is addictive!"
