Calling Old Stylers; what are your views on the Daily Thread?

A lot of the comments have mentioned that the tips and tricks of OS are hard to find on the daily.
I don't really know what sort of tips readers are looking for.
Recipes are not posted unless asked for, but by reading about what posters are eating, it's easy to ask.
I have picked up recipes for Rocky Road, Impossible Pie, Aunt Sallys apple cake to name just a few.
So unless we want the daily to consist of....
WM on, (home made soap gunk)
DW on, (half a tablet)
Floor mopped (stardrops)
I don't know what people want to read.
For me, OS is about giving support to your friends and neighbours. I don't know any of my neighbours, apart from one couple, by name and if I had a problem, I wouldn't be able to go and chat with them. We have nothing in common and I know very little about them. Here on OS, I feel I can share my worries and get either advice or a sympathetic ear.
I posted on the Daily this morning, but then read this thread just after PP had posted it and went and deleted my post. On my way to work, I thought about it being classed as a support thread and thought well yes, for those who have no friends to share with. At this point I realised I was describing myself. I class the posters on OS as my friends and yes, I should "get a life" but I do work and I have a hobby, but I don't have friends I can gossip or natter with.
So, guilty as charged, the majority of my posts don't have tips in them or much in the way of OS, but I do try and do more in the way of OS.
I have wittered enough and I will wait and see what the outcome of this thread is.
So, if you don't see me on the daily, I will still be reading.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

Who can blame them for being fed up when all that happens is the level of bitterness we have seen here today? They do a fantastic job, IN THEIR OWN TIME AND FOR NO PAY!!!!!
Give them a break and don't criticise them for remaining as impartial as they
can.
I couldn't agree more with you in the respect that the Board Guides do a fantastic job,
however I also feel that if they ask for opinions they should welcome them (good or bad) without becoming personally involved/hurt and having to "walk away" (Pink-winged's words) we are all supposedly adults here but to be quite honest there is a distinct playground feel about this debate!

I can't help feeling that this this is all getting a bit too personal now, well, I suppose that's natural because everyone seems to have a strong opinion on the question posed.
I also can't help feeling that this has all been "manufactured"................particularly since there seems to be little or no input from the OP.........I know I haven't posted much in the past and now it seems as though every post I put on here is controversial, but I really do think that as this debate was started by the Board Guides a little input from them (other than shaking their heads in disgust and walking away,) may be appreciated.

Apologies, I missed this post earlier, but will respond nowAs has been mentioned, I (and all other Board Guides) am a volunteeer. Sadly, I'm unable to be online 24/7 as I have the commitments of my paid job, my husband and children, my home, garden and chooks.
I can assure you and everyone else, this is not a "manufactured" debate. The Old Style board guides have been contacted by posters asking if the old Style Daily thread can have more Old Style content. As such, I don't believe starting a thread to ask for everyone's views should be controversial
I'm busy again tomorrow, but will be looking at each and evey post on this thread and in discussion with Pink-winged, we'll be trying to plan the way forward.
Thanks again for all the constructive input, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Perceptions can be funny things (entirely subjective) which is why I asked Twink for clarification rather than going in with all guns blazing, I think you will find that at no time was I rude or insulting in my post to Twink and therefore am slightly bemused by your response to me.

Twink is PP's mum, and PP is pulling tongues so I'm guessing that she was teasing you a little.0 -
Hi I am really going to set the cat among the pigeons and ask the board guides to close this thread as everyone seems to be getting a bit heated and personal over what was a perfectly reasonable request from the board guides about the OS thread. I am so sad to see that we as a group of adults cant keep things in perspective and that people have been hurt by some of the things that have been said.
I do believe that not everyone will be happy whatever the outcome but we must all wait and see and give it a try whatever0 -
well what can I say. I posted early in the thread...and yes its ground hog day again. this argument has happened so many times in my time here...and to be honest I'm tired of it.
its been fun folks...see you around.x x x0 -
yeah best to close this thread and let the bg's decide what is for the best, it is unfair on them to have to deal with this every few months so hopefully something can be arranged so everyone is happy.0

If Pink feels the need to walk away you can be sure that she has very good reason. She is incredibly dedicated to her role as Board Guide but everyone needs time out sometimes.
I don't agree that this has a playground feel to it.The vast majority of posters on this thread have given an objective view of the Daily. As far as I can see, all the current posters on the thread have being very civil despite the variety of views they hold. One or two people who do not post on the daily have fanned the flames but that hardly constitutes playground behaviour other than the repetitive shouting of "Clique, clique!!!" They have then taken exception to being told that they are under no obligation to read a thread that they believe is pointless.
Thankyou to Penny and Pink for starting this debate. :T Despite the bad feeling some of it has generated, there has been good debate and an interesting discussion. You're both fab. xxx
Unless someone asks me a question directly, that's my last post on the subject. I hope a resolution is found soon.0 -
I don't read the Daily thread - despite being at home I find it hard to to post much during the day with 2 small children. I have no issue with the daily thread being about general chit chat. I've found plenty of OS tips on the boards without even reading that thread. Prolific posters on here are likely to want to chat to each other and I don't mind if they do it on a Daily thread.

Hi Penelope Penguin,
Thank you for your reply and please be assured that I am not "having a go" at the Board Guides for the sake of it, I was just a little bewildered by the response made by pink-winged to the replies recieved on this thread, surely if you instigate debate then that is what you will get.
I don't believe that anywhere in the OP it was made clear that this should be a debate on whether there should be more OS content in the Daily thread, rather the way the OP was worded left it a rather ambiguous debate, with some Daily Threaders panicking at the thought of it being closed down.
I thank you again for taking the time to respond and for clarifying the original question to be discussed.
