I didn't manage to get on the site until this evening ( family emergency. Oh sorry, nobody wants to know that do they?) I haven't even glanced at the Daily, this thread was top and I started here. 10 pages, straight through and I could weep at the bitterness that has come out.
Yes I'd agree the Daily can be too long, with too many very chatty, long posts. But I think 90% of us have done that at times, I certainly have, and I'm not naming names but an awful lot of the complainers should think back to their own posts at times. I would hate to see the thread moved to the Arms. A snowball in Hell would have a better chance of survival.
Personally, I'm not that enamoured of photos etc unless they're of things like Aussie's latest sewing triumph, or Penny's cakes, Troo's piggies.........you get my drift, but as long as they're kept for special occasions I think they're fine(I'll admit it, I love to have a nosy into other folk's lives. That would be sticky beak to you Aussie:p Oops am I showing my cliquey side.... yes Aussie and I are friends) And if we are to have "beefcake" photos, can I put in a request for more manly men, I'm not a fan of "pretty boys" ( most of whom wouldn't want anything to do with a woman anyway :rotfl: ) prefer my men a bit more "lived in" ( or should that be worn out:p )
I agree OS should be the backbone of the thread, but to read some of today's posters it will be confined only to those who are 100% hardcore oldstylers. Wannabe Sybil has stated she shouldn't be there because she doesn't do a lot of OS. Well I'll sit with you Sybil on the outcast step, because while I do a lot of OSing, I'm not nearly hardcore enough for a strict code of conduct.
Occasionally there is too much that is only between 2 or 3 posters. But that's preferable to me, than the poster who wants to recount all of their day, while not even taking the time to send a message of support or even acknowledgement to a previous poster who has just said their leg has dropped off, or they are about to lose the house.
My vote would be keep the posts down, edit your previous post where appropriate ( this won't work if you're replying to something half a page further on) and try to refrain from doing 3 posts to answer 3 different posters. Incidentally, when quoting people it's preferable to shorten the quote down to just the relevant part;) Sometimes I see a half page quote, and the person just wants to answer the last sentence. This won't lessen the number of posts but will shorten the amount to be read"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

quotes, and I am interested in your family emergency, and hope you're ok:o
candygirl, do your normal "quote". Then put your cursor into the quoted post and "backspace" or "delete" depending on your own preference.:D Sometimes it runs away and you delete too much and have to go out and start all over again. Hope this makes sense, or have I had one too many glasses of vino?:o
And to prove my point, I over deleted and had to go out and do it all again:rotfl: CM xx
PS Won't actually go into today's...... it's a rather personal medical problem of my DDIL and I don't think I should say on a public forum, but thanks for the thought:DYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

Oh dear, Oh dear....to quote Churchmouse...without being able to do the quote thingy.." I could weep at the bitterness that has come out"
I have flipped around different boards and threads since I started posting on OS last year and have found that the daily suits me best... I have learnt lots of moneysaving recipes, learnt lots of moneysaving ways I didn't know before and saved lots of money...and found wonderful warm support when I have needed it. I have only met one OSer in person but feel that I have made so many good friends and learnt so much that has enriched my life.As others have said of themselves, I am a nosy cow and enjoy hearing of the happy things in others' lives, I also like to be able to offer my support to those in any kind of suffering...all of which to me is OS...this is how people used to live when few had any money to spare. The 'clique' feeling passes as soon as you become familiar with names and styles
Perhaps the daily is a little unwieldy at times, the suggestion that people only post once a day as normal is a good one, the thanks button is often overused and I would be at least as guilty as anyone, have learnt to rein in a little, but I have often used it to say 'yes, I agree with that', or 'well done you'. I offer a general hug and congratulation in every post.
Please don't fight folks...there is nothing OS about fighting and it upsets me ( I'm not selfish or anything you will notice!)

I don't post but I do read. I can't see why there's a problem. I can't see it doing any harm and if it gives someone a wee boost to their day, why not? Why can't there be 2 threads a day? Why would anyone want to stop something which is friendly and supportive? There are so many nasty threads on some MSE forums, it's lovely to read something that's not.0

What I did forget in my earlier post was a HUGE thankyou to Pink and Penny for the selfless hours they spend * cleaning up* the OS board. I wouldn't have the patience ( and let's not go into the expertise:rotfl: ). You both do a sterling job in the face of not inconsiderable *oppostion* for want of a better word.
I have just one extra question.
Can you freeze
milk:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Sorry, couldn't resist:o See I might be *old* but OS keeps me young at heart:D:T  CM xx

I'm mainly/mostly/totally a lurker on the OS board. Maybe because I'm too busy learning to act OS...;) I've never even dipped into the daily thread, because I've been too busy keeping up on this board and others.
Whatever the in and outs/rights and wrongs of 'chat' threads, or the daily thread, my biggest concern about them is the amount of information people give away about themselves  .
Why call yourself 'anonymousgal', for example, if you're going to tell casual browsers the following (hopefully all of this is made up, and doesn't reflect real-life posts! If it does, then point made... ):
- you're 'x' years old
- you live in 'y' town/city
- you're single/married/living together
- you have/don't have children
- you work for organisation 'z'
- you had an appointment with the doctor/dentist/hospital/optician today/yesterday/last week
and so on.
They say that there are six degrees of separation between anyone on the planet. So, how hard would it be to recognise someone from the above? Never mind some of the very specific personal details which people give out on the internet - especially when they feel that they are with 'like-minded people' or people who will 'understand' them, or when they need support?
Completely forgetting that all of their messages can be read by anyone at all...!
For that reason alone, I'd be quite happy to see 'chat' frowned upon and deleted!0 -
Hello again
I made a comment earlier that the thread should be split to OS and general chat and after spending time reading the thread properly I take back what I said, it is perfect just as it is and if people feel it is not for them they should start a thread that is. We all need an outlet for ideas and feelings and the thread as it is allows just that.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
