I’m also very shocked with some of the bitterness shown on this thread today.

Agreed wholeheartedly!!!!!!! I don't post often but I do read the forum a lot. I have learned enormously from posters such as Thriftlady, and have been highly amused by posts from Haribo and Aussielass. Surely there is room for everyone here? Please, please can we have less judgementalism (sp??? - is it even a word??:o) and more tolerance? I never read some threads, always read others and dip in and out of most things. Common sense surely? I've always felt the success of this site was due to it's diverse and friendly user base. Please let's keep it that way.
On a final note. I read the daily sometimes. I enjoy it when I do. I ignore it if it's not applicable to me, but I KNOW it is a lifeline for some - let it stay.0 -
I think the answer for those of us who have stopped posting on the daily because it has got a bit off topic OSwise is to do what I've done today and start posting again. People who want to share more personal news can continue to do so and those of us who are obsessed with our stomachs can post about what we're cooking
that way there should be stuff of interest to everyone.
I agree with Nelski about the sparkly pics though:o .....firemen are fine:D0 -
I have to say i am new on the old style board and it has helped me so much. I have found it friendly and supportive and have learned so many tips to help me with my OS challange.
it keeps me focussed on my old style ways and i enjoy reading the posts daily.
it does however sometimes resemble a drs waiting room:rotfl: but without this thread I think I would have gone under whereas now I am keeping afloat.0 -
Agreed, pigpen. Appearing cliquey is a pretty much inevitable by-product of associating with one group of people over a long period of time. But if you don't bite the bullet, say hello and introduce yourself, how on earth are we going to know you'd like to join in?
In "real life" I am a member of a group which is notoriously cliquey, because some of the friendships within the group go back decades. But I was warmly welcomed into that circle a few years ago, have some really close friends there, and yet the downside of that is that some people (who are either a bit shy or just choose not to like us on principle) now see me as "one of them" and assume that I, and my friends, would be unfriendly or dismissive towards them. Whereas if they'd only come and say hello, they will be welcomed just as I was. I can't win, really - am I supposed to disown my friends just because somebody makes a judgement about me for being friends with them? Clearly not, and I think it's counter-productive to make negative judgements about the individuals within a group just because it might seem to a newcomer that the group itself has grown an invisible wall around it.
It's exactly the same on here.Operation Get in Shape

I joined the OS Daily early last year; I had spent some time lurking on threads and this is the one that most appealed to me. I haven't regretted it - the posters on here have helped me save money by encouraging me to buy things like my breadmaker, Remoska and so on. The way I see the thread is that it's like making friends in 'real' life. I don't talk exclusively about recipes and baking to my 'real' friends - we talk about other things like holidays, books we've read, our children, our jobs and so on - about life in general, I suppose, like friends do. I know the Daily has helped many people in times of need, myself included, and I would hate that to stop.
Without the Daily, the Wooligans knitting group would not have been formed, and you only have to look at the 'Knit Your Square to Give Your Share' thread to see how successful that is and how many people are happy to give up their time and materials to help those less fortunate.
I am very guilty of writing long rambling posts - I learnt to type many years ago so I find it easy to get carried away without thinking. I'll stop doing this now and try and keep my postings to the basic OSing. I'll miss the friendliness, though, having lurked on other threads and seen how often they end up in arguments.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

I won't be posting on the Daily Chat thread after this, as I am struggling so much to get OS it would be rather redundant.
But the people there are not cliquey at all!
And people saying that if you 'don't like it don't read it' are mainly reacting to the quite vehement outbursts against the existence of the Daily Chat thread. No one has disputed people's right to have an opinion. But it is one thing to say you do not want to join in, it is another thing to say 'nuke the thread from orbit' because you don't like it.
And regardless of anyone's opinions I shall still be lurking around the old style board. So there!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

From today's OS Daily...
The really rude and offensive posters over 'there' are posters I've not seen before! What I don't like is that it is unusual for anyone on OS to get so nasty. Yes, there have been disagreements, but mostly done with some dignity and ending with being nice all round!
If they come over here - which I doubt then the 'ignore' button is the way to deal with them.
They must have small and sad lives to get so upset about so little!
No, no cliquey at all...
Seriously, this is a call for opinions, so the OS daily thread must have upset some people prior to this for it to have been posted in the first place. Otherwise the question would not have been asked.
I think people are misunderstanding the issue, people have got upset on here because they were told succinctly by RubyRed to stay away if they didn't like it - me included.
I'll go off to my 'sad little life' now - sheesh - the things we get up to on a quiet day working from home.0 -

I think you will find that I said 'if you don't like it you dont have to read it', I certainly did not tell anyone to 'stay away'.
There are posts and boards on here which I dont like, but I just dont read them, i would not try to change them or get them moved.0
