Alot of people have already said what I am thinking but here's my contribution anyway.

I was a lurker for a long time before I took the plunge. I am not 100% OS by any means, but I have picked up many many hints tips and recipes which have been very useful to me by reading the thread.

The support for everyone who has problems or worries or need help is second to none and I appreciated it very much when I needed it recently when my mum died.

OK maybe things do go a bit off track sometimes, but it usually rights itself. I would be very upset if this thread was no longer and I think most of the regulars would.

Hope this gets resolved soon and we can get back on track.

I think you will find that I said 'if you don't like it you dont have to read it', I certainly did not tell anyone to 'stay away'.

There are posts and boards on here which I dont like, but I just dont read them, i would not try to change them or get them moved.

It's been quoted twice already - but you said 'if you don't like it you don't have to look at it'... which kinda means the same thing.

But the thread was ASKING for comments...mainly because some older/ex contributors obviously have some issues.

So that phrasing just peed some people off...esp when a board guide specifically asked for opinions. Then, when people gave opinions they then got attacked.

If everything was rosy in the OS daily garden, I'm assuming the Board Guides wouldn't have asked in the first place?

I certainly didn't read anyone telling anyone to "stay away" "go away " or things like that I did see and even wrote myself if you don't like it don't read it
the thing being you will not now or ever please everyone so whatever is decided for some it still won't be enough and they still will not like the daily thread, but hey it wouldn't do for us all to be the same.

Oh my gosh, the emotion (on both sides) displayed here is overwhelming. Personally I was a lurker on the daily thread for a few weeks, and have returned after a number of internet issues.
I really enjoy reading the thread, and have not found it cliquey at all. In fact, the daily thread is the one which persuaded me that OS can be part of everyday life and need not take over every aspect of our lives!
Although I find it very sad that some people do not like the daily thread, I would be very sad to see strict rules of 'you can post exactly this and NOT this, this or this' on the board. Whilst I realise that some of the chat on the thread is not directly related to OS, because of the lifestyle choice which all of the participants have made it IS fundamentally OS, which is why I believe it should remain here and not move.
Furthermore, sometimes we all need a place to relax with those who know us well, and some support from the people who we know understand us. A supportive community is, in my personal opinion, about as Old Style as we can get!

  • Thank you everyone for the helpful comments :T

I think one point is being missed by some - the Old Style Daily isn't meant as a chat thread in itself, but as an Old Style thread first and foremost. If chat comes out of the Old Styling, that's great, but it shouldn't be a thread simply to chat about non-Old Style topics. Threads that are mainly chat, and not Board specific, really belong in Discussion time or The Arms. I love going there, btw, it's just that Board Guiding doesn't leave much time :D

The problem here isn't that if people don't like the thread they don't have to read it. There are many Old Stylers who feel excluded from the thread, despite having lots to say about Old Style topics.

    Rather reluctantly entering the fray...

Actually, I think what redruby was trying to say was, if you don't want to look you don't have to look, nothing more. There is no reason why you should not post their now. I found them really welcoming and I am sure you would too. It's just not compulsory to read it if you don't want to.

Saying that you do not have to read it is not the same as saying you are not allowed to read it.

Personally I would wait a little while before posting now, as feelings are running a little high, but I am confident you would be welcome. Strangers struggling with OS like myself have been made welcome, though it does take a little getting used to

My translation would be, if you say you don't like eating Mars bars, then you don't have to eat Mars bars, but that doesn't mean that in the future you can never eat a Mars bar.

Little bear has been poorly so perhaps sleep deprivation is responsible for the analogy.

I think that your posts are more like the sort of posts that you see on the Arms, and that is not a wrong thing, but the posts on the OS board are a bit more forgiving. I suppose (sleep deprived analogy again) the Arms is like drinking a latte, but the OS board is more like a cup of tea and some knitting. I think that is why I think it would be unhelpful to move any chat thread there.

I think I had better give up. I am desperately upset that I will not be able to 'chat' but I do understand that it is perhaps not the place.

I no longer post on the daily as i felt it was getting too much of non os chat all the time, too much hi's and hugs to everyone that i just couldnt keep up anymore, granted people like chatting about their day but it has now come to much

i loved the daily when i first found it, when queenie and co were on it, got such great tips and loved hearing about the os things they were doing and getting loads of tips etc from experienced oldstylers, i now see no point to the daily now

every once in a while this discussion comes up, everyone says sorry we will keep to os but then it will revert to the way it was

Fellow os'ers have left too, so it isn't just me

i hope the daily can get sorted but i very much doubt that it will, sorry if you dont like that but those are my views, missing people who i loved hearing about were queenie, math, squeaky who now no longer post, math maybe once in a blue moon;)

Whew! This has all got very passionate! I can see so many different points of view here and I've already stated my own, but whilst I think perhaps we (read that as me) should probably chat a bit less (like Moliere I can type and my fingers just throw out what's trundling through my mind at the time!), I'd love to hear what other people who don't post, be they lurkers or just those who don't like it as it is, or those who feel intimidated by it, would like to see and if that would encourage them to join in? Perhaps then we could all improve it and meet some more people and find out more ways of doing os things.

That was exactly how I was feeling PP.

I think old style topics should be the main thrust of the daily thread because it is very helpful for folks starting out on an OS way of life to see how others manage/don't manage day to day life. However, I don't think that should mean that there should never be any other chat. It is quite easy, after all to skim-read the thread and pick out the things that ring your bell.

I do think though, all the personal greetings, huggings and thankings are bit off-putting -don't mean to offend anyone, but that's how I feel.
