If you don't like the thread why go into it? It does not need to be moved. It's title tells you what it is. It is just one thread a day on one forum. Am I missing something because I really cannot see what the problem is. As for it taking up space well won't it take up space on Arms?

The Arms is the worst possible place to put it. No threads on there ever stay on topic or stay serious. It is a very cliquey forum with a lot of posters wanting to make inane or belittling posts.

Whereas here they dress it up a bit nicer so it doesn't look like they are belittling anyone when in fact they are :D

This illustrates the insidious nastiness on this board, we are all so friendly don't you know and then stick the knife in the back.

Absolutely...just like a real over the fence chat about the people who don't socialise with the rest of the street.

If you went up to someone in real life and told them they were a waste of space, would you really expect to get a smile and a hug back?

People are human and respond unfavourably to being attacked, which is what some of the people accusing OS of being cliquey etc are percieved as doing.

Why is that that any support or kindness and understanding shown has to be derided ?

Hello there - people also respond unfavourably when they are told to stay away if they don't like it, particularly when they were expressly asked for their opinion.

I don't think it helps on forums sometimes that the way things are written they can sometimes be taken the wrong way as there is no facial expression or tone to someones voice so you don't always come across in 'the way intended'.

I read most threads on days I have time to, and have seen some sarcastic posts which could easily have been referring to me..although they upset me and made me think twice now about what I post I still think on the whole OS is by far the friendliest board.

    Oh dear.

I personally don't post on the daily thread - simply coz I shuldn't be here - I'm at work! But occasionally do read it to catch up with people; you do get concerned when you know soandso has to have an op etc. What I do like about OS is that although people post on the thread they also give help on individual posts. It is not necessary to read or get involved with the daily thread if you don't want to.

OSers are on the whole very helpful - I have ever had a post ignored!

Leave it as it is - it is not taking up "room" in that no one is stopped from posting a thread because the daily is in the way.

And as Martin says - be nice to people. I sometimes haven't posted (here and on DFW, Mortgage Board etc) if I either cannot think of something constructive to say or if my views are obviously way of what theOP was looking for.

I have to say that at the moment I am being mentioned by a few people but that I posted for weeks without more than one mention in another post. However I never saw that as being outside of a clique, just that I didn't have any reason to be sent extra hugs or thoughts or comments because my life was running smoothly and I was just posting about my OS stuff etc.
    :T :T

I have always enjoyed the Daily, but generally speaking these days I only tend to drop in a couple of times a week. I do not find it cliquey per se, but then again I have been around since the Daily began. One of the contributory factors to my not posting as frequently is the fact that most of the current regulars on the Daily are people who I have not really formed a bond with, mainly because they have joined since I stopped being a really active member of the thread, so I haven't really got to know them. I don't see this as cliqueyness, just as something from which I've grown apart.

I do not have the most OS lifestyle in the world (single, no kids, good income), but running my home economically and traditionally (i.e. Old Style :D) is important to me. However once I have subtracted my working hours, sleeping hours and manic social life (:o) there aren't that many hours left in the week, and I'd rather spend the time that's left actually DOING the household tasks rather than talking/posting about them. That's nothing personal to anybody, and isn't a criticism of the Daily Thread. It's just the way it is.

There is definitely more chat and less OS talk on here than there used to be, so when I do come onto the OS board to think about something specific and on-topic, I tend to read/post on specific threads rather than on the Daily. I do most of my chat in the Arms, on Facebook, or elsewhere (including with the lovely friends I've met through this forum).

I think it would be a shame if the only people who felt at home on the Daily were isolated housewives and the long term sick, but I do think the chat element of the thread is very important because these people form such a large part of the OS community. It would be a great loss to the board and to its members if this function was removed.

Sorry, that doesn't really go very far towards suggesting a solution.

  • Just come back to catch up. I feel quite sad at the turn this discussion has taken - exactly the way threads on other boards go :(

I too see an "over the fence" chat as a mixture of gossip & household stuff. It is one thread per day - so I do not understand how it 'takes up room'. It has provided valuable support to some people who do not/would not post on other boards - and therefore who may have remained struggling. Not everyone can "get out" either and so this is their virtual 'over the fence' chat to people.

I was a newbie a while ago - I just gatecrashed, kept posting, commented on other people's posts, and gradually you become more of a part of the thread, more familiar & people then realise when you haven't posted for a while & wonder if you're ok. I don't get all huffy if I don't get a mention. I don't see it as a clique - but then that's just me.

I go to the threads that interest me, and can always find lots of other OS stuff on the rest of the OS board too. It's not the only thread in the world about OS - in which case I could completely understand how difficult it would be looking for something specific.

Can't we live and let live? The OS board is about the only one (usually) where people are pleasant to each other - and care about each other. What's so wrong with that??

Maybe the reason it's more chat and less OS questions now is that most questions that I'd have have already been answered! Bit pointless asking a question when someone maybe even 2 years ago has asked and been answered.

  • I'm a lurker on the OS Daily and I would be gutted to see it changed. To be honest I havent noticed that much difference to how it is now, to how it was a few years back. Yes, I have noticed that posters come and go and there are some posters who I do miss cos you got to know a little bit of what was going on in their lives... and now I dont, see, I'm just a nosey cow :D

Its my afternoon treat to myself, to sit down with a cuppa and read what everyone is up to... I dont care if its WM on, BM on, DW on.... or I fell over today, LO isnt well, been up all night...... etc.. I just like to read whats happening to people.

I've always found the OS the most friendliest board on MSE and I was really saddened when I saw this thread. I hope you all stay guys and that the old posters come back.

Sorry, I'm not much help with how to please everyone, just that I love the daily..... and long may it reign:T
I also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like you :p
