Well I've been for the 36 week placenta scan today. The cut off for a safe distance from the cervix is 5 cm. I am 5 cm exactly. So for a while it was all a bit up in the air what was going to happen.

So, I sat and waited and rather than me go and see the consultant (as I was booked to do) the midwife just went and asked instead. I was a bit irritated about that because call me neurotic but I'd like to meet the person who is supposed to be leading my care :) Anyway, he decided that it was just about all good and I could go home. Nothing more booked with the hospital so I assume I can just get on with homebirth  I need to call the community midwife to sort it all out I guess.

Oh and with under 4 weeks to go I've finally been referred to the physio for the pelvic pain I've had for the past 6 months :D

Maternity units are often busy and once the baby arrives it's very rare to have private rooms - certainly around where I am (Oxford). That doesn't make it a bad thing because having company can be a very calming thing...

Kathy, glad your scan went well!

Thankyou! And I'm veggie too so not doing it for me either...although if I wasn't at work I could maybe just eat a veggie sausage or two...ummmmm ;);) Looks like I'll have to make do with the apple I have left...ho hum!!!!

I only had two midwives, and my husband at the birth. They also put a blanket/sheet over me to keep some of my modesty-i hadnt really taken much notice untill my husband reminded me afterwards when we were discussing how happy we were, with how i'd been treated.

I admit id had nightmares of having loads of people there watching me! i warned my hubby beforehand i did NOT want students there etc, as im a nervous person (along with my high bp) so it really wouldnt help me to have loads there :o

Ooh, KFC... DH just txt and asked me if I fancy that for tea! I'm kind of off chicken at the min but might go for the beans and fries... It's next door to church nearly and we're heading that way for a kids thing tonight so saves cooking ;)

3 weeks until my scan... I can't wait... Mostly just so I know there's something there and it's not just a phantom thing...

Oh, and my Mum called last night to say she's bought some baby vests because they were only £2.50 a packet! I told her I didn't want them just yet, she could keep hold of them for a couple of months... It' funny really, she didn't buy DD any new vests... Just got me a pile of second hand ones from her friend at work...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...

Krystaltips, my mum did something similar in that she bought a teddy and a few other things and i asked her to keep hold of them until we were a bit further along in the pregnancy. It's my parents' first grandchild so bless they are excited, but thankfully completely understood where i was coming from.

i dont really think you can put a price on piece of mind when it comes to pregnancy and therefore scans etc.

if the scans are giving feelinggood the reassurance she needs, then why should it be questioned????

I know if it was possbile, i would have a scan everyweek to give me reassurance as we can't see what is going on inside our bodies and we all want to know our babies are safe and developing well.

Because around here they are £180ish a scan. But even at £80 it's a lot - 2 of those is half a pram. I could see the point further along.
I can understand the 11 week one for peace of mind - the 12 and 13 week ones were not private but to have another at 16 weeks and then the usual one at 20? At 16 weeks they can't do the nuchal fold scan any more as far as I am aware so it's only to find out the sex... Which she will on the 20 week scan anyway... It's her money by all means but I just think it would be better to save it for when the baby arrives. Especially as FG wants the 4D one too...
I just think it's an awful lot of money on scans - obviously FG can spend her money as she please :)

I'm paying for the Nuchal Fold Scan because around here you don't get it on the NHS - but that is because I want to know that there are no serious health issues with the baby. And only because NHS won't pay for it which I find very unfair as 10 miles down the road it's done on the NHS...
