Its far too early, but I've been looking at prams and really have no idea! It looks like it'll be the most expensive item we'll buy, so how can I be sure I get exactly what I need?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

it is the classic or the linear ones that i like
lucky i read that post back becuase i hadn't put in the link!!!!!
Thats the sort of thing I was looking at, one of the Silver Cross travel systems. Is that the best there is? How can I tell it'll be right for me and baby? The only experience I have with prams is negative - I worked in a nursery and we had awful, dirt cheap prams with wheels that stuck and various other problems!Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
FG - welcome to my world at the moment.
i have a few things that i WANT my pram to have and that is why i have found what i like in silvercross.
however, when we were in the toys r us last week, hubby found one and said, "yep this is the one". when i asked why, he pointed to the temperature control on the handle and said "because i like that"....bless!!!0 -
Hello ladies!
Just an update from myself after a bit of a hectic week! We had our dating scan on Wednesday where we got a lovely look at the little baby and it was relief to see that everything appears to be okay. I thought I was 12 weeks + 2 days but they gave me a 13 week measurement. After that we have been busy telling all and sundry our news...apart from hubbies brother and sister in law who are back from their hols tonight...
All in all it has been a great but tiring week...I was flat out by 8pm last night with all the excitement...
It all feel like it is 'real' for us now and feel confident enough to start looking at a few baby bits...:j :j
Hope everyone else is getting on okay...
Bye for now

To be honest I'm surprised they even asked for a sample and even more so that they have sent them off! It's a 2 second test they can do in the GPs there and then. Mine took my word for having 2 positive tests and that was that. Was told to munch folic acid and try to eat healthy... Also to make an appointment with the Midwife for checking in (make sure you state this!) for around the 10 week mark. I'd call them and book that now - they are often busy and you're more likely to get an appointment that fits you if you book it now as they need a longer appointment for the first one.
First scan is usually at 12 weeks second at 20 (depending on your health authority these may be the only scans you get through the NHS).
Thanks for that. I thought it was a bit ridiculous having to send my wee all over the shop just to let me know if I'm pregnant or not. So do I have to call the GP to make an apt with the MW. Also do I get any choice in where I actually give birth and so would this affect who is my MW. The nearest hospital isn't very nice. My friend went for a homebirth simply because when she visited the maternity unit there it was clearly completely overstretched and they couldn't guarantee your own room whereas a least with a homebirth you were assigned a dedicated MW (infact I think they are supposed to send two but her baby came before the 2nd could arrive).
I don't think I'm brave enough for a HB but could I opt for a hospital that's not the closest to me?Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Glad your dating scan went well Kathy72 and you are now sharing your news with all and sundry. Great feeling isn't it. I loved my 12 week scan. So pleased to bubs lying there without a care in the world.0

I think I have an addiction to scans! I've had three so far (11 week private, 12 week emergency and 13 week routine). Got one booked for 16 weeks to find out the sex, and NHS one at 20 weeks. Going to have a 4D one done at some point. Mum thinks I'm mad, she only had one scan for my Brother, and no scans for me! I still don't believe it though.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

Depends on where you are... But I had the choice of 2 hospitals. They won't guarantee you a home birth - if there are ANY chances of complications they won't allow it and to be honest for your first I'd not be the least tempted to do a home birth... Second maybe - you'll know better what is happening with your body then.
Also if there isn't enough Midwives then they will also not book you a home birth - ie if someone else has already booked one for that time period.
Maternity units are often busy and once the baby arrives it's very rare to have private rooms - certainly around where I am (Oxford). That doesn't make it a bad thing because having company can be a very calming thing...
I think you should make up your own mind about the hospital to be honest.
Yes you will have to call the doctors to arrange a MW appointment - most of them have the MW do a clinic once or twice a week at the surgery. If it's really small you might have to go to another surgery to see her.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
