pollyanna24 wrote: »Ho hum, due date today and no signs of nothing, so I can feel for you BarganAholic! I'm bored of being pregnant now, want this child out! I have my next mw appointment on Friday, what is she likely to do? She's a bit parpy, so I'm guessing just the normal blood pressure and wee test and then send me home. I don't necessarily want her sticking things up there, but would it be time to do a sweep or anything two days after my due date to speed things along? Would it be the right time to start discussing induction or not?
Bf told me this morning that he dreamed that I had the baby and she was 9lb 16ozs. I said you can't have a 9lb 16oz baby, that would make it 10lbs, but thanks for letting me know!!! Gosh, I'm only little, hoping there's not a 10lber in there!!
Bf is also due to go up to Leeds tomorrow for work and he says he doesn't feel comfortable going. Think it's 3 hours there and 3 hours back (we are just north of London). If I have no signs, is it safe for me to go with him? I'd only be sitting in the van and we could bring the hospital bag with me if something happened. We have family up there and wouldn't mind popping in to see them.
Re: Goldsmiths and Tescos. I currently have £534 towards our wedding rings in Tesco vouchers which I am going to use in Goldsmiths. Not buying till next year, so hoping I have more by then. I am the queen of Tesco vouchers. Earlier this year used £2,775 in Tesco vouchers to pay for our weddingmoon in Barbados next September!! Cheap wedding huh?
I would definately recommend having a sweep done. I had one at 40 + 2 & she said I was already 2 cm dilated & my cervix was soft.. she said she felt baby's head. I asked her to pull it out then lol. Not that the sweep did any good for me because I'm still here at 41 + 1 but she should talk to you about induction. Plus you never know.. you might be ready to pop any day & the sweep might help!
I'm definately going to start swapping my Tesco vouchers! Wow I can't believe you got a holiday to Barbados! & all along I've been using mine against my shopping for a few quid off here & there.. man I feel such a plank! Mummy to Charlie & 2 beautiful twins due on Valentine's Day

Good idea about the soup I hadn't thought of that.. I've never been in the hospital apart from a little visit to the labour ward so have no idea what the food was like.. I have heard bad things though. My shopping isn't coming until tomorrow so hopefully I'll have enough time to make some before babs decides to come.
Saying that though.. I'm having serious braxton hicks this morning but they dont hurt so dont think its labour, I recon I've had about 15 - 20 though since I got up!

I'm a little nervous about the whole birthing process, but gradually getting better. At the end of the day, she has to come out somehow and it is a natural process. I'm longing for labour now, and I never thought I'd be longing to be in pain!
I've spoken to a few women about it who are not giving the horror stories, but genuinely want to be helpful. Basically nothing is wrong, it's not like you're ill and it's supposed to hurt. That's the way I'm trying to think about it anyways. One lady I spoke to yesterday said she had her baby at home and I was like, "Noooo, but there was no drugs." And she said that it helped her stay calm, and because there was no drugs, she managed to cope if that makes sense. Because the midwife only had gas and air to give her, she had it in her head that there was nothing else and that was fine and she coped fine. She even said she only took gas and air right at the end when she felt it was necessary. Hopefully I can feel the same way when I'm in the birthing centre!
I'm trying to think along the lines of keeping it in perspective, like the women in Africa who have to do it with no drugs, the woman who gave birth up a tree in India and that poor lady in Austria who had to give birth to her father's children in a dungeon! Each contraction is making the hole that little bit bigger so the bubba can come out and each contraction means there is one less to go. Of course, I could be talking right out my bum right now, but I think what I'm trying to say is that a lot of it is mind over matter and staying calm, and believe me, I am so not a hippy nutter!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

definitely get some arrangements in place for food... it is SO unexciting and I was amazed at the amount of salt in the food! Something I personally didn't fancy when my problem was nausea and vomiting
Dh had to bring me crisps as they were the only bland salty thing I could face and fruit and lots of snacky things... I have every intention that if I'm stuck there when bean arrives there will be a food delivery rota set up between everyone who wants to visit :rotfl:
On the up side one of the girls I used to work with just popped up on messenger to let me knwo she got home today with a healthy little baby girl - born on the 15th... they had her in labour over 24 hours, she lost 1.5 litres of blood before the midwife finally called the doctor and she had her by C section... I can't believe the midwife let her go that long! On the up side mum and baby are doing well and babby is latching on like a good'un and eating wellDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Blimey, I'm posting a lot today. Thanks a lot for that BargainAholic. Maybe I'll ask the mw on Friday then if she thinks a sweep is a good idea. Just feels strange almost asking her to poke me up there. I was just gonna see if she suggested it.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

like others, the thought of the labour/birth does scare me, but i have read something lately that has helped me in a way.
the article explained that the baby knows when it is ready to be born and 'does things' that begins labour. Different hormones etc being produced to assist the cervix etc. It then said that fear produces adreneline and adreneline counteracts what the body is doing naturally. HOpe that made since.
If that is the case, by me getting myself scared, i am going to do myself more harm than good. Don't get me wrong, I am still going to buy the hypnobirthing cd and book to keep me relaxed, but that article has put things into perspective for me.0 -
I cannot believe that the one day I actually done something constructive instead of watching daytime tv that something actually happened on This Morning!
If you go on the this morning website you can watch the whole thing again! The interview was really awful I was cringing watching it, the medication might make her speech slurry but it doesn't explain why her arms were all over the place and she couldn't keep her head still.
Anyway back OT, I'm consultant led simply because I had an emergency C-section last time, like Astonsmummy I can choose to have VBAC or elect to have a caesarian again, the consultant asked me what i wanted at my 12wk scan and I said I had no idea, thats when we arranged for me to see him again at 37 weeks, I daresay had i said I wanted VBAC I would never have seen the consultant again as my pregnancy is normal in all other respects.
I'm now 20wks and I still have no idea!MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
MFD, have you considered Next for a frock? :-)
Polly, I had no signs of labour until I actually had labour (there would still have been plenty of time for a three hours car journey for DH though and I had a pretty quick labour so yes, that's sposed to be reassuring not worrying, as in baby could still turn up soon without warning signs but your DH will still get back to you). Also just to reassure you your body knows what to do, time goes so fast and your instincts should help you to do stuff that helps with the pain (my mw said if you feel like you should do something do it it'll probably help) although I found I kept trying stuff to see if it helped just in case! I had an epidural so er, you can prolly guess it hurt to chuffery but four weeks on I can't remember the pain, and inbetween contractions is bloody marvellous as the pain stops!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
Thanks for the link Fritha - I don't have the best legs so I normally go for something long if possible but I may order one of those to try on.
What a beautiful photo of Celia! and your sig made me laugh too - I hardly recognised you without Otisplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
thanks for that fritha. bf has just come home and says he doesn't want me going to leeds with him, and will go by himself as he doesn't want me going into labour on the motorway and having to deliver the baby himself! bit over the top me thinks.
it's 3 hours there and 3 hours back and my sil went into labour last week and was only in labour for 7 hours, so i think that has worried him a bit. he says if i am home, i can just call an ambulance and he will get back as soon as he can.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
