I'd not be happy with people touching me either... I'm VERY funny about my personal space though and I'm very assertive about what I'll accept from people so I have no issue telling them that if they try and touch my bump when it is visible (or before) then they better have a hospital bed booked...

  • sparkle - I saw a T-shirt the other day that said 'Do NOT Touch The BUMP' :rotfl:

I haven't had any strangers do it yet but I know it will be coming. My friend says she was just always ready for it and took a step back and smiled whenever anyone went to touch her...she said it left people feeling very uncomfortable with their hand in mid-air or they had to physically move themselves forward to have a grope - she was hoping that it would teach them a lesson to keep their hands to themselves!

I'm not an assertive person, but I've been very assertive when it comes to not letting anyone apart from hubbie near the bump!!!

it's happened twice and once the woman was very drunk (it was a wedding) and I just moved away and wouldn't go near her again. The other time someone made a move to touch me and I pulled my cardi round me and crossed my arms, making it plain it wasn't happening!!!!

I have no qualms about saying 'i'm funny about people touching MY bump" while moving out of thier reach.

When a friend was pg, she had a stranger in the supermarket touch her tummy. She reached out and grabbed the womans breast!!! she is very assertive though! The woman was very shocked but seemed to understand the sentiment and I doubt she'll ever touch anyone elses bump without prior permisison!!!!

I'm definitely uncomfortable with folk thinking my "bump" is an open invite to touch. Three times so far people have made to touch and I've jumped a foot backwards. Then again I have a real issue with people invading my personal space. More than 6" is fine and i'm not stressed, but invade that 6" cordon round my body and I'm like a cat on a hot tin roof!

It's strange but I think I've agreed to let the next intake of medical students perform an abdominal exam to feel the uterus. I'm only comfortable with this knowing that both my bosses will be there (a prof and senior lecturer in O&G)!

I'm also really fed up with people telling me that I'll gain weight and that they gained anything from 5lb to 5stone when they were pregnant. So what, that was you and I'm me. I'm eating sensibly and so what if I gain a bit of weight.

But the cake really has to go to the idiots who say I shouldn't exercise when I'm pregnant (I swim twice a week but this will increase to three times a week and is a great form of exercise in pregnancy). I carry round with me the Royal College of O&G statement supporting exercise in pregnancy and ask them what makes them more qualified than the leading obstetricians and midwives in the country:p

    Congratulations Pisces.

I'm off to my 3rd sign language class - only signed up so I could learn useful signs to communicate with Baby but still haven't learnt to sign 'cruddy nappy' yet!

No one is going to touch my bump! OH can't bring himself to touch it, so its just going to be mine. I'm hoping that because I'm pretty large, people will just think that I'm fat and not pregnant!

    Hi all,

As you know I had my 20 week scan yesterday.

    All went well :T

I was sooooo worried that they were going to find something wrong with bubs that it was a such a relief.

The sonographer I had was brilliant. She explained everything as she went along. I had told her that I was nervous because I was worried something was going to be wrong, but she constantly settled my fears.

All of bub's measurements were in the normal range and she let us hear the heartbeat again which was lovely.

Even though I only paid for two pics, she gave us 3 :D

Bubs was a wriggly little worm which confirmed for me all the movement i have been having with the spinning sensation.

    xxx
  • I just want to say good luck to Mell242.. she went in for an induction yesterday so hopefully she will have baby by now.

    xxx
