feelie i agree we dont need to loose weight we just need to grow a bit and we would be perfect lol!! thats what i tell OH all the time, he is tall and skinny and im the opposite lol!! if i was his height i would probably be the correct weight! cant believe the hospital werelike that with you but honestly if you want HB/WB etc etc then push for it!

BMIs... Mine was around 38 I think? Overweight but what annoys me about BMI is that it doesn't take into account the fact that the set of 32GG/Hs on the front (bigger now thanks to pregnancy - honestly I could cry!) weigh a fair bit on their own!!! I'd bet that with say a C cup I'd be normal! (Just!) :rotfl:
Feeling - I know you want a home birth but please don't discount hospital... if you feel you don't trust that consultant ask for another one!
One concern I WOULD mention and that's to all "heavy" ladies: If you have complications at home when giving birth and the ambulance has to come out and transport you - if anything has gone wrong then it's incredibly difficult for them to move you safely... My ex is a paramedic and when people are over a certain weight they have to get the firebrigade out to help them lift people - that could cause a serious delay in getting you to hospital during labour. I'm honestly not trying to scare anyone here! I just want you to keep it in mind when you decide on where to give birth for your sake and the babys! But that's more down to total weight than BMI
Just make sure you are where you will be safest for the purpose of giving birth...
As I said - please don't ignore medical advice. If you think she was biased against you because of your size then please ask to see another consultant and ask them for their oppinion! Better safe than sorryDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

HB was an option I was thinking about. I'm not bothered about not having a HB, I just didn't like how she talked about complications. I thought a HB would be out of the question, I just wanted to ask. Then she started going on and on (for about 20 minutes) about all the things that will go wrong with the labour, and how it'll be serious even if I'm in hospital. She was really graphic and used rather emotive terms. I'm all for being aware of the risks and not 'romantisising' birth, but to make me worry that I won't survive seems a bit over the top. She kept saying 'high' risk for everything, and how its likely I'll need X, Y and Z and how I'll almost certainly suffer from extreme blood loss and am likely to need a c-section. It was almost as if she wanted to upset me. Luckily don't have to see her again! All the other people I've seen have been realistic about complications, without upsetting me.
The wording with WBs seemed a bit silly - why aren't ladies with severe SPD banned from the birthing pool? Surely they'd have just as much difficulty getting out of the pool quickly as someone who is overweight.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Feelie, I know what you mean, I got a massive lecture from one MW about not having booking bloods. telling me my baby would be treated like it had hep b  and that the path lab would be p1ssed of with me coz if i needed blood they'd have to rush through my crossmatch. and it was mostly lies! I got really scared I was almost in tears only to be told by THREE other midwives that what she'd said was trollox!0

Evening all
Not been on for a while (lurking though) as to say things have been manic is an understatement – Prepare for long rant:
Started last week when a girl who works for me told me she had a rash – fine, an hour later she’s back saying some girl thinks it may be shingles  Great – sent her home as there is not only a pregnant woman in our team but no-one knows about me yet.
Anyway, she calls me later to tell me that she does have shingles, major problem as I’ve not had chickenpox. Call the doctor that evening who said I must have blood tests urgently the following morning, bit of a problem as I was away with work. Finally agreed that I would be there the following evening with the condition that I get the bloods to the hospital myself within the hour, fine, all good so far.
Following day late getting back so late for doctors, rush home with bloods to leave the hire car which was being picked up within the hour, I zoom off to the hospital with my sister leaving hubby at home to hand over the hire car. This is where the fun really began! Broke down on the way and the breaks and handbrake fully locked on
Police show up as I’m being screamed at by passing cars for not moving the car off the road – I couldn’t the bl**dy breaks were locked! Hubby then zooms up in hire car (which should have been picked up, so which he has now stolen) to rush bloods to hospital. As I had blocked one of the major routes out of town, it took the tow truck 2hrs 40mins to get to us and as you can imagine the passers by were overjoyed at this delay
Anyway, blood tests came back the next day all clear thank god, so doctor thinks I’m immune which is really lucky.
Apart from that all OK, have my booking in appointment Friday and fingers crossed I may get my scan just before Christmas which will be fab as it means we can tell everyone over the festive period.
Rant over, glad to see everyone else has been doing OK.You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0 -
My doctor started me on Metformin a couple of months ago as I also have PCOS.
JVIC - HUGE congrats :j I also have PCOS and take Metformin and am not that much further along than you - 8 weeks I think but the doctor has already said ummm, not sure it may be longer given my periods. She said we'll presume it's right for now but there may be a surprise at the dating scan  As long as they're not going to say I'm 6 months gone, I'm sure it'll be fine :rotfl:You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0 -
FG, have they always been so negative with you? Or was it just this particular MW?
I've just checked my notes and I have a BMI of 40. No one has mentioned to me any of the complications you have listed. Actually, no one has really commented on my weight at all and I wasn't even consultant led with Poppy. I had diamorphone and an epidural just fine(thank god!
).
My BP just does its own thing and even now that its high they are not doing anything with me - just leaving me to go into natural labour  (hopefully before xmas!).
Hope you are ok.

SB - everyone else I've seen (a few midwives, GP, sonographers, doctor at the EPU) hasn't been like this, was just the consultant! And this was after the MW asked her to be nice to me! Glad I didn't see her when she wasn't being nice! My BMI is 130/77, didn't think that was that high.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0
