Well had my 2nd mw appt today which was full of surprises!!
Didnt know I had to take a urine sample and despite going just before we got there I managed to go again( no surprises these days;) ) Glucose and protein ok. Blood pressure all ok and my tummy measured exactly 14cm which apparently is spot on - 1cm per week (14wks 2day) :D
THEN unbeknown to me she said they check baby's heartbeat, so got to hear it again(first and last time at 12wk scan) it was fast and strong and made my day, *grins like a cheshire cat* :j :j
Booked my downs syndrome screening for Dec 1st and back to mw in Jan.
Havent had any blood results back though and its been 2 weeks - is that normal, didnt think anything of it until mw asked if we'd had them

We are told to always take a urine sample to all MW apps.
round here you have booking bloods between 6-10 wks and get the results when you see MW straight after 12wkscan

I saw my MW for booking at 7wks at gp's then another one after scan then I see one after my 20wk scan. I only see my MW at GP's again at 24wks.
I'm sure I saw MW lots more 1st time round though not sure if its coz I'm notting having as many tests or coz its my 2nd or coz i'm at diff GP's now:confused: oh well I may need to book app with MW as i forgot to get MATB1 after scan so unless GP will do it if I pop in then I'll need to see her

  • Hi guys
well after having more cramps and spotting over the weekend I decided to ask doc what she thinks and she has booked me in for a scan tomorrow at 9:30, got to take a urine spec. But what surprised me is that she said be nil by mouth from 6am, cant imagine why? did anyone else get asked this? best way to make a preggers woman hurl is starve her from her brekkie!! she did not even say have a full bladder?

Hmm not sure, should I make sure my bladder is full Im only 7 weeks? did anyone else have to be starved?

Nicole early scans are internal so you need an empty bladder, I've had 2 internal scans one while preg and one when not and neither time did they say nil by mouth, they will prob ask you to go the loo when you are called to make sure bladder is as empty as poss. the scan thing they use has to be covered in ky jelly so don't bother wearing your best kecks, but you may want to shave your legs;) just in case (or is it just me thats soo vain?)

PS. Hope everything turns out ok *crosses fingers* xx

Appart from that 'Warren' is very happy moving about and givving me little kicks, oh it's wonderful!

  • Elle,

    Congrats to you :D

Well back from the docs and I must admit she was great, I think she was a bit surprised when hubby walked in with me and did the Oh we haven't met and then said to me "how are you" when I answered pregnant I don't think i've ever seen a doc so happy and she was more excited than I expected. Was lovely and said I'd made her day :T

So blood pressure all ok and I'd done the right thing by stopping all my tablets straight away but she did say that I'd be seen by a consultant led service throughout rather than midwife led although my first appointment will be with the midwife.

Apparently scans are between 12-14 weeks here so I don't think I'm going to get it done this side of Xmas which is a shame, but you never know I can always ask the midwife during my booking in appointment.

Quick question though she said the first appointment is done at home, is this the same for everyone?

well I had an early scan at about 6 weeks and they wanted a full bladder first, couldn't get a clear picture so they asked me to widdle and then did it internally. Not that they could ask me to do nil by mouth as I had 5 minutes warning before going down from the ward to the scan :rotfl:

On a further negative side to the day - DH had a meeting at a hotel after work and left his laptop down behind his seat (not much point in putting it in the "boot" either as it's a 4x4 and it's open all the way through) and some little effing thief has smashed the rear window on the drivers side in and nicked the laptop. That's bad enough but they have by the looks of it damaged the door in doing so and that means we'll HAVE to claim on the insurance! It was right under the hotel security camera too but they claim they didn't catch anything... *sigh*
so now we have to speak to the insurance company and Dh has to go in for a security review as part of the normal process for when laptops get nicked normal for his place of work... Pain though! Also in his bag was MY MS office disks and his wireless mouse and headphones for his phone... not to mention all his notes etc for work and the files saved on the laptop which are lost (the laptop has a secutiry system installed which amusingly makes it unusable to the thief because the second they turn it on as the main computer has had the theft registered it locks it down and it can only be "recovered" if hardwired into the system by the security team. They won't be able to hack it as it's all encrypted or overwrite the hard drive etc. The whole systemboard with freeze so the only usable thing on it will be the memory sticks... serves them !!!!!!!g right!)

So.... bad day just got worse! GRRRRR stress I could do without...

Booking in appointments are done at home here, then the rest of midwife appointments at the GP surgery, and the consultant appointments at the hospital.

I'm unable to walk again today :(

I've applied for a temporary Blue Badge - I don't know if I'm going to be doing much going out, but it'll help if I get one. Fingers crossed! Still waiting for physio, hopefully won't be long. She said it'd be a fortnight or so, and its been a week, so soon hopefully.

There's absolutely no need for you to starve yourself. I've had a lot of early scans and the majority of them have been vaginal scans (so an empty bladder required).
In fact I prefer if they are vaginal as I really don't like the discomfort of having a full bladder and the sonographer pressing down on it!

Hope the scan goes well for you.
I've got a second scan tomorrow to see if there is a heartbeat this week.
