had you told your work you were PG? Cos that would make it harder for thme to make you redundant.

Yes they knew from about 6 weeks as I needed time off for midwife booking in appointment, but legally it makes no difference to being made redundant unfortunately.
They made all staff redundant and are running the company with just the directors doing all jobs between them so no reason to have to keep me just because I am pregnant.

Hi guys, just an update on my birth story. Sorry its not a plesant one.
I went for a rouitine midwife appt when I was 35 weeks, she thought I was measuring small for dates and so sent me down the hospital for a scan. They found that the blood supply to baby was reduced so baby had to come out early. There were no SCBU beds available in the area so had to travel 90 miles away. Had an emergency c-section, we spend nearly 3 weeks in SCBu trying to stabalise his blood sugar level. We were then told he was younger, more like 33-34 weeks which meant my original dates were correct.
    Anyway, all is well now.
Hope all goes well for the rest of you. Thanks for all the support and advice over the last 9 months. Will cu over in the parent thread in the near future.

Thanks for updating us. Glad to hear you are both well now. Would be great to see a picture! See you in the parent thread in 159 days :)

  • Mornning all :)

I'm going to get a nappy bin, just because that is what I'm used to! Its going to be strange to change one nappy, instead of 10+ in a row! I've never had just one baby before. This will be a new experience!

Was very happy last night, was watching TV with OH who said he is getting a bit impatient and would rather like the baby now! He's even read a book (This one: Haynes Baby Manual - its just like the car manuals, but for babies!).

I don't know what to do today. I really need to go into town to get my nails done and post a parcel, but I know that if I do, I'll pay for it over the next few days. Need an electric scooter!

Its a lovely sunny day here. I'm already in 'Mum' mode and thinking how nice it'd be to go and feed the ducks.

    :)

  • Hi girls, re work - my position is also very bizarre.

I was made redundant in March (6 weeks before our wedding). I didnt look for work until after the wedding and honeymoon (which was a month long) and then (after a bereavement in my family) we decided to relocate from London to Leicestershire to be nearer to the family I have left.

I managed to get another job (am in a very specialised field) which started on 1st September and as of this week my hours have now been cut to 2 days per week with the serious potential that my job could disappear.

So - I was unemployed (didnt claim any JSA or other benefits, just sorted myself out & lived off my redundancy money) for just over 5 months. I have been employed now for just over 10 weeks but this job may disappear entirely.

I am 5 weeks 6 days pregnant so my baby is due in July and from what I can see I wont be entitled to ANYTHING unless my job lasts another 16 weeks?! If I am wrong then please do let me know.

My DH earns £24k per year but we are paying a fortune for his company car plus rent up here and a mortgage on the London property which isnt selling and has come down in value over £100k. We are in deep financial trouble until our other place has sold and even then it will be impossible to live on what we earn.

It really seems hugely unfair that I have worked since I left Uni (9 years) solid, never claimed a thing even when I was unemployed and I get no help when I do need it! I could cry when I think about it.

Talk about there never being a right time to get pregnant - on the positive side, this baby is really wanted and we are so very happy to be expecting!

  • Skintchick, as you've been working you can claim contributary (sp?) Jobseekers allowance of £60.50 per week and can continue to receive it if you don't get work right up until 4 weeks before your due date when you will then be able to claim Maternity allowance. The qualifying period for MA is 66weeks and you only have to show you were earning in excess of £30 for 13 of those weeks to entitle you to MA. If you were earning less than £30 per week then you would come under the 90% rule and only receive £27 per week MA instead of £118 or whatever the amount is at the moment cos I can't remember! SMP is included as earnings within those 66weeks if you have previous maternity pay within those 66 weeks. I'm a self employed childminder but not getting any work at the moment so I'm claiming contributary based JSA and as I was on maternity leave with DS1 within those 66 weeks I'm covered on the earning rule for Maternity allowence with this one!

Hope that helps a bit, I've been really worried about me bring some money in as things are tight here and this has saved my sanity! If I've rambled on too much I'm sorry but if you need more info just let me know. I have a family member who works at the job centre and they've confirmed I've understood it right

Above info might help you too reetyre dependant on how many weeks you've worked (you need 13) over the last 66 weeks.

    Hi ladies!

Can I just have a bit of a self indulgent post and tell you all how I feel at the mo???!!!! I'm currently 15 + 2 and I seem to have got to that in between fat feeling stage iykwim. I have to wear a uniform at work and I can no longer do up the trousers so I have started to feel really uncomfy with that. Next week I'm going to start to wear other stuff...but I'm still to small for most maternity wear...I just feel fat!!!! :o:o

I can still fit in some of my size 12 things so I'm going to have to have a look through that and see what is suitable. I have also been on the scales and I have gone up from 9 and a half to 10 stone already which has been a bit of a shock!!!!

Sorry to ramble on a bit but I don't know anyone else who is preggers at the mo so I don't have anyone who can understand how I feel at the mo:confused::confused:

Roll on the next few weeks when hopefully my tummy will start to look pregnant rather than as if I have eaten too many pies!!!!!

    Kathy
