At mine meals are served at your bed thankfully - from what i saw they encouraged women to take their infants EVERYWHERE with them... the showers and toilets are built especially to have space for the hospital cots with the babies in with you safely if say dad isn't there to watch the little one whilst you go for a shower.

that must be where all that money they charge for scans go! I got told off for attempting to walk up n down the corridor with chris just for a change of scenery, and the shower on my ward was "out of order" so had to use the one on nxt ward

They only ask for "donations" for scans :) for what it's worth it's the usual hospital fare... not exactly home cooking! And in my view contained WAY too much salt... I know I was yacking up must of the time but I was encouraged to eat and well... it was hard eating what was on offer... DH had to bring me in food to keep me going :)

GAaaaaaaahhhh!!! I just found out that as I was made redundant last week (before I knew I was PG) i won;t be entitled to statutory maternity pay because you have to have worked for your employer for 26 weeks by the 15th week before the week the baby is due!

So is there any point in me trying to get another job?

Baby is due in July, I have no intention of working after I give birth and frankly what is the point of working now, getting stressed in a new position, when I won;t get any money?

Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing? OH earns good money (around 35k) and we own our house so we won;t be entitled to a thing!

I'm so cross! I've worked all my life and now my employer makes me redundant in that lovely window of opportunity between miscarriage and PG and the government seems to think I am worth nothing!

    What should I do??!!!

You could get stat maternity allowance instead.. basic SMP rate for 39 weeks.

Well I'm pretty sure you won't get any JSA but you could apply just in case.
the only benefit to getting another job would be extra money before bubs arrives, maybe a job that isn't as stressful as whatever you did before?
although I've been trying to get a job since july but no one seems to be hiring these days!

I think I can get JSA if I am actively seeking work - I suppose if I tell them at interview that I am PG I am unlikely to be hired! lol

I just don;t know what to do now - it is all quite bad timing!

Work out if you meet the criteria on the Direct.gov site (the thing about 66wks).. I'm too tired to get it straight in my head, but you might be entitled already. Or get a stressfree part time job for the next six months.

I am entitled already I think, but that still leaves me with what to do between now and when MA kicks in at 11 weeks before due date.

Oh I so don;t need this right now.

A week won't make much difference.. At least give yourself til after the weekend to think too hard about it all. Chill out, relax and get over the rush of emotions you've crammed into today first :)
