I am off shopping after work today - need to get a gift for a friend as I am posting a parcel to her tomorrow. Her daughter is celebrating first birthday, her husband's birthday is few days later, then all the Christmas presents and her birthday present(have no idea what is that yet!) need to be posted abroad! Might pick up some treats along the way for myself. And I want to get advent calendar this year as I have never had one!!!!!

  • I feel so ill! Completely full of flu now i feel like my head is going to explode!
Av due in 2 days and have had dull ache in my tummy, snapping at dh and getting a bit weepy at silly thingd on the tv so i'm guessing it's not this month so am tempted to take a decongestant. It doesn't actually say not to take while pg but to consult doc before taking it. I'm sure it would be ok to take one what do you think?

Sorry to hear you're not well - I'm just getting over mine!

As for decongestant, it apparently dries out your cm, so can hinder the little swimmers getting to the egg, which is why it's not so good if you're ttc...

I think really it's up to you - if you feel that grotty anyway, do you even WANT to bd? :rotfl:

EDIT: OH just reminded me Vicks Vaporub is ok to use to clear your stuffy nose. I checked this out with NHS Direct on Sunday night (they also confirmed about the decongestant). I used it as a steam inhalation, and it did help, combined with taking paracetamol. Hope that helps!

Something I just learned from discussing POAS 'false positives' on another thread... hope it might be useful to peeps

    7. What's an evaporation line? Evaporation ("evap") lines result with the test's antibody strip just looks slightly different than the space around it. There is a line of antibodies (usually made from mouse cells) in the Control and Test section. The Control line binds with any liquid and turns pink (or blue, in tests using blue dye.) The Test/Result line turns pink only if pregnancy hormone is detected. If not, the moisture passes over this strip and does not turn pink. It may, however, become more visible when the light hits the moisture on the strip-- it may appear gray, colorless, like a "dent" in the test, or like a "ghost line." It may appear at any time-- as soon as the urine hits it, after a few minutes as the test absorbs the moisture, or after the 10-minute time limit. It may appear when the test is drying, or after it has dried. It may disappear as the test is drying, or after the test has dried, or not disappear at all.
The simple fact is that there is always "something there" that is slightly visible-- it's simply the antibodies on the test that would turn pink in the presence of hCG. When the test becomes wet, or as it dries, or after it dries, the antibody strip may become more visible. Therefore, all tests may have them. It is not a defect; it's just how tests are made.
A real positive is identified by its color (pink or blue, whatever the color of the test's dye is) and its appearance within 10 minutes of urinating on the stick. A line that appears after 10 minutes, regardless of color, must be considered an evap line and is caused by the test's chemicals changing. HPT's are rapid assay diagnostics, which means any results appearing after the "rapid" time limit of 10 minutes are invalid.

Robutissin, which is a decongestant, is the med which most of the fertility websites recommend to generate copious mucous. I can't understand why other decongestants as a matter of principle would dry out cm when they are designed to make nasal and chest mucous thinner, so I suspect that AnnieM may have got this the wrong way round!
  • Hi all, im feelimg very sorry for myself today, have been really ill for 2 days being sick, was a bit happy first time at thought that i might be pg but then oh and dd started so no luck there. Never mind though just start again next month i suppose as bd'ing is firmly put on hold. Or one little swimmer could have been lucky enough to make it on time fingers crossed

I've just been looking on askbaby.com and was absolutely mesmerised by the little timelines in the signatures showing how big the baby was and how long it had left before it came into the big wide world. It's lovely!!!
