Probably because they are worried about their own safety. I've heard of stories of very threatening behaviour by "gangs" of customers who want to buy up all stock and won't take no for an answer. If you're a supermarket worker on minimum wage, should you be expected to cope with this?

Maybe not but they should have told people they only had a few delivered as people including myself were not happy at waiting 40 minutes or more in the cold to then get in the store to find a sign "DVD recorders are all sold" at the till as there was a bit of hassle as some old guy was kicking off at the manager for the fact we were all waiting for nothing.

Yes, I appreciate your position. I think some training might be in order.

My O H works in a supermarket and was in this unfortunate position a few weeks ago literally scared for her own safety.
The items demanded were a little more lo tech however.......Grommit mugs.

I went to my Lidl, having rung the 0870 number to find out when they opened (got that from their web site) 10 minutes before they opended. I thought that would be too late, but there was only 1 other person in the queue!

Bought 2, one for me one for work (need to store and burn ultrasound images). The store only had 4, so 3 went within the first 5 minutes.

Agree with you regarding stuff lying aruond the floor. Looking at this forum, I think I was lucky to turn up so late and still get one.

Although it's not the greatest (no DVD-RAM or freeview) I am happy with it; I tested it last night with recording and watching a programme and also my cable.

Basically, pleased I got this. Sorry to the others that didn't get one.
    Biggest debt, £48,000.
    Lightbulb moment - Feb 08.
Current debt June 09 = £17,000, I have sold property to reduce that by so much. Now paying monthly.
Plan to be debt-free May 2012.:D

Why? These things are always advertised as limited stock, and they're bound to be in such demand because the prices are so good.

I would hazard a guess that much of the reason why the prices ARE so good is because they are only able to obtain small numbers - other retails wouldn't be interested in small batches, so the prices fall. You should be thanking Lidl etc that you have the chance of getting hold of them at all.

I go to Lidl for other stuff anyway, so if the specials have sold out, it's no big deal. I admit that I've travelled quite a long way to Aldi on a couple of occasions for the specials, though, and have been lucky enough to get them (without appearing at the crack of dawn, either).

Oh yes, how pleasing it was to read about another offer from Lidl that we all have no virtually chance of obtaining.

If I see something advertsied at a reduced price, I expect to be able to go to the store and actually buy the damn thing.

I know - but Lidl isn't the only one. You try getting a chocolate fountain from Curry's!

Sometimes you have to work for your money. The better the bargain, the harder it is to obtain. It makes life interesting!

Hi....I am abosolutely disgusted at the way LIDL are allowed to get away with their advertising of virtually non-existent products at seemingly bargain prices, the latest being the TARGA DVD Recorder with 160GB hard drive.

I went to 3 different LIDL stores in the Bristol and Bath areas this Sunday and Monday and was told that each store only had 1 or 2 of these units, despite the prominent advertising in all their flyers. Although they say limited stock, one would expect that to be at least 50 or so per store not 1!

The manager at the Midsomer-Norton store said he would be left facing 'quite a few angry customers' as these units had been so heavily promoted, yet there would be virtually none available. He said all the other stores were in the same situation.

I have never shopped at LIDL before and will never be suckered in to this again! They should stick to selling beans for 5p a tin, as that's all they seem to be good at!

Try AMAZON for the LITEON 5045 at £219 currently. At least they DO exist!

Some people just seem to complain and complain, just get over it!

Saying that I did manage to get the £20 DivX/DVD player and also the 160GB HDD/DVD recorder. Others I know didn't manage to get them, but that does make them a bitter person, they still pop into Lidl. You just have to say oh well, it was worth a try.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
