    Hi there

This is great value for money and hard to beat on price and features... it isn't perfect though but the gripes I have with it are very minor... for example it doesn't support MP3 ID3 tags.

Plus with the 3 year warranty and LIDL's no quibble refund policy you should not have any problems if it goes wrong....

That said I have just returned my year old Targa DVD recorder to LIDL for a refund (not many stores would do that eh?) because the fan was really noisey.

For the person that asked about surround sound, it does have coaxial and optical digital out so thats fine if you have a similarly equiped AV decoder/amp... I'm not sure if it has it's own internal 5:1 decoder though... from which you would run each channel of decoded audio to a 6 speaker attached amp.

Incidentally it is worth checking out this thread on AV forum http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=271600

My messages are on there under the name "BusterDAN" - I have also posted a link to the owners manual and all in all it does look very good....

Personally I am still going to buy the SAMSUNG DVD-R125 though as it has HDMI output, sadly the TARGA does not. :(

    £199 in N. Ireland .

This must include a Northern Ireland tax? ..........

How will they justisify this price difference.

could you plug your digibox into it and record from that?

I've got a humax pvr, but i'd like something that let me back up the hard drive recordings to a DVD, without the hassle of doing it via a scart lead in real time. Unfortunately, I dont have the cash that this would require.

I don't think these are anywhere near me, I live in Newcastle. Brilliant price. I would buy one even if it didn't record to DVD.

If I remember there is a Lidl just off the coast road near Wikes. Half way between the Wills factory and the A19.
Whoops just opened the link, sorry you get the Targa dual layer dvd recorder for £129. No doubt it will be NEs turn later, and probably cheaper. I would wait till one turns up with a Freeview digital tuner.

Must be the protection money they have to pay ....... Can they claim it as a business expense ?

OH - BTW this partcular item can only record one channel of analogue TV - Pretty basic as there are plenty twin tuner digital sets out there - as usual Lidl buy up stock about to be obsolete and punt it as if its the bee's knees..

Anyone know how many of these sort of deals they get in? I know with most of my local Netto deals they are gone within minutes if its really good. I would have to travel (only a little bit) to get this, but it's just what I want.
  • it is a good price. I bought a HD DVD recorder earlier in the year for £250 and it only had a 80 Gig HD !! Mind you had to send it back as it wouldn't record SKY via a scart cable ???

    I disagree...

I haven't to be honest researched various models but how many are you aware of that will support dual layer 8.5GB recording?....not many I think - and for the general home user this could be quite a important feature.

Also how many burn both DVD- and DVD+ formats... this time last year there were barely any that did....again saves on the confusion of different formats as long as you don't by DVD-RAM.

Also most recorders I am aware of like VCR's before will record one input source but allow you to view another....so in this case you could record sky whilst watching analogue TV....sure it's not the best... it would be nice to say be able to record sky whilst watching a different sky channel but you'd need the Sky to do that (i.e. SKY+....in which case you probably wouldn't want the recorder anyway).
