Lidl Targa 160Gb d.v.d. recorder 12/12/05

Options
For £149.99 would you get your barge pole out or be prepared to be crushed in the stampede ? http://www.lidl.co.uk/gb/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20051212.p.DVD_Recorder_with_160GB_Hard_Disk_Drive_
It mentions DivX and XviD which I have seen mentioned on other posts in this forum but it may as well have read pasteurised rice pudding for all I know about these technical things.
Can anyone advise me if it will be worthwhile queueing for this next Monday please ?

  • I don't think these are anywhere near me, I live in Newcastle. Brilliant price. I would buy one even if it didn't record to DVD.

If only it had a digital not analogue tuner, i'd be on it like a shot!

    How about this one then?

From Ebuyer though, you pay your money and take your chances with there customer services!! :rotfl:
  • You can plug freeboxes (scart) and video cameras (DV) into it.
The advantage of an on board free view card would have been that you would have been able to use the timeshift feature to pause live digital tv broadcasts as well as record from them. As is you can only do this with the standard 5 analogue channels on this unit.
Crying shame as its an awesome deal.

DivX, XviD, MPEG 4, MPEG 2 and MPEG 1 formats are basically a compressed format of video created on computers - the video version of MP3's for music.
It's very handy that this machine plays them!

More than that for me, I wouldn't consider buying buying another dvd player that couldn't play divx.

This machine looks great for the money - wish I hadn't of bough the 70 squid one for Asda

Picked up the £20 Targa Divx DVD player a few weeks ago and think I will be splashing out £150 on the recorder with built in harddrive.

Does anyone know if it will work with a 5.1 surround system as I cannot see it in the description.

Can it be used to record from SKY or just the analogue tuner?

So anything recorded via the scart input doesn't go to the disk, just the dvd? If thats true then that is a shame as this would have been a good alternative to sky+ albeit with one tuner.

No, like Sky+ the hard disk is dual function. Not only does it allow you to pause live TV but one can record directly to the hard disk too. At least that is my take. I think what the OP is saying is that you can't pause live TV if the input is from scart, I don't know if that is the case or not.
