  • I decided to take a couple of gold bits to http://www.howcashforgold.co.uk/default.aspx in North London as they quote good rates, pay cash on the spot and I would save on postage by taking it there myself. However when I got there I discovered that the rate they pay for visits in person is 5% less than the one quoted on the website. If you want cash there is also a charge for that too. I opted for bank transfer but a week later it hadn't shown up in my bank account and it took 2 phonecalls before I got the money, about 10 days after I handed over my gold.
So all in all I would have been better off using a postal service.
  • Ok, I said I would post an update. I checked email this morning and wow! Got more than expected because there was some 22ct gold in there, also a sovereign ring (from 1992, so not worth much on the open market). Bumped it up to just over £1000! Thrilled to bits, the money is already in our account already! Hatton Garden Metals are highly recommended by me!
    I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum
Cos how can you be gloomy, when the sun shines out your bum? :D
  • I sent of 8g of gold and a bundle of silver yesterday to Hatton Garden Metals and got a paypal payment today! I am very impressed too - will definately use again. I got over £70 altogether.

I've been saving my scrap silver over the years, but never knew what to do with it, the silver was only worth about £15, but money for old rope :)

ITV National News tonight highlighted the price of gold reaching very high prices, and that some websites are buying old gold for recycling at a fraction of the current market value, so be very careful who you sell to as there are many indiscriminate firms trying to make a killing during this period of recession..

I have used Hatton Garden 3 times, and always been good.

I used cashforyourgold.co.uk this week, as they were offering 10p p/gram better price. sent off 105.6 g, should have got £1085. They ripped me off, said 12g wasn't gold. 8g was lower quality gold(tosh) Offerd me £850:mad:, rejected that offer, then they raised it to £915.
I asked for it to be returned, i was told it would cost me £45(robbers) as i have to pay for testing.
Asked for a manager, i argued the point of the testing, stating they have to test it antyway. In the end he offered me £1000, any more and they would be making a loss(ya right).
IMO i have be ripped off by this company, so my advice is dont use them. As they done me out of £85
Sticking to Hatton garden in the future.

How can they offer £850 then £1000 ?????? gets you thinking??????
  • I would recommend Hatton Garden Metals too. I sent off 28.40 gm's and received £204.
I was a little worried at first. I sent it off on Wednesday morning by Special Delivery but on Thursday didn't hear anything. It should have been delivered before 1.00pm on Thursday so I checked the tracking number which showed it was still going through Royal Mails system. It finally showed as delivered on Friday to a PO Box with no signature so I thought it had gone missing. Then I got an email from Hatton saying they had paid me. Phew!
  • I used Hatton Garden thanks to this thread. I also sent off some gold for my sister and cousin. Really smooth transaction, Gary rang me to tell me that a tiny bangle wasnt gold which I had ?? for myself so was expecting confirmation by not receiving the amount to include that, Good of him to ring. Between the three of us, we received £990. Aptly received as my car broke down yesterday and is the garage... and I bought a netbook last week on the back of getting the money for the gold... :-)

Nicky - I can only comment about the gold ( the diamond/sapphire/silver someone else can hopefully help you with) See if anyone you know has some kitchen scales that weight in grams , if you have not got any yourself. I bet you will be shocked when you realise how many grams the gold you have mentioned comes too.

    Click onto >>>
    http://www.hattongardenmetals.com/scrap-gold-prices.aspx

enter how many grams you have either, 9ct, 18 ct etc.. and the sum you will be paid per carat will show up just below the drop down box for the ct count. Its all very easy to do. After you have been surprised at the weight. come back and let us know if you think it was worthwhile. :j
