Cash for old unwanted broken jewellery

Hi all, as you can see this is my first post. I sent some gold jewellery to one of these companies adverstised on tv around 6 weeks ago, I received a cheque for £58 three weeks ago this friday. As I did not feel this was adequate for the amount of gold I sent, I called them and was told they'd up the amount to £100. I refused that also. I sent the cheque back that same day, but still have not received my jewellery. Does anyone know how long, or if at all they send items back!? I did not weigh the jewellery, but my post office receipt says 0.056kg, did this actually seem a fair price?0

Allowing for the packaging, the value of the 56g of gold (if it was all minimum 9ct) would be in excess of £300 at the lowest price over the last 6 weeks. Many postal gold companies only offer around 20% of its real value. Always ask what percentage of the market price a company is paying before parting with your gold. The gold price changes daily but the percentage of market price does not as a rule. Amazing how many get lost when their offer is refused! Tips: Good companies quote the price per gram and do not try to hide it. Avoid PO Box numbers. Google the company and read what their customers say, there are several good companies out there who will pay around 95% of the market value. Take a picture of your gold and make a note of its weight.0

Thanks for replying. I did tell the guy on the phone I was looking for around £200, but he said they wouldn't go any more than £100. From what you're saying, that was a ridiculous offer then (£58!!) It was CashmyGold.co.uk, I saw it advertised on the daytime David Dickinson programme. I will wait until Friday(makes 3 weeks exactly since sending the cheque back) then give them a phone to see whats happened to my jewellery :mad:0

I am surprised David Dickinson's Real Deal allows themselves to be associated with this sort of company. People think they are ok as they sponsor the show. I would complain to ITV as well as they do have a responsibility and I guarantee you will not be the first. Quite a lot on the web about this company and others who operate in a similar fashion. As I am not allowed to create a link you can Google "Cashmygold reviews". 'Dooyoo' is a good site with many reviews on this company, many stories similar to yours.0 -
Hi
This might be a stupid question but can I sell white gold?

Of course you can, it has the same value as yellow, rose and green gold it is just the other metals that are mixed with it that give it a different colour White gold is made by mixing pure gold with other metals, such as silver.0 -
I know Dave, thanks. I have been looking up reviews myself after your post, seems many are waiting quite a while for jewellery to be returned, and when they have to call back, are offered slightly more again! (what part of 'send my jewellery back please', do they not understand?
). Have sent an email to the company and will follow that up with a phone call on Friday.

A friend took mine to someone and I got £346. This was for a broken chain, gold wedding ring, 3 gold bracelets.
One of the bracelets I bought a few years ago but never wore it as it was a bit too big, I paid £138 for it, that was including P&P, and got £200 so I was well chuffed with that.
I am going on holiday abroad next year with the money I received.0 -

Phone them up and ask them direct what they pay per gram on todays prices for 9ct gold, it should be around £7 with a reputable company. From what I have heard this company will pay up to £5 if pushed (You were offered £1!). Once they give you this information ,which they fight hard not to, you can then ask them as a matter of interest for an updated valuation based on todays price. Once (and if) you get your gold back and armed with your new knowledge you can look forward to getting around £350 to £380 if it is all 9ct!
Hope you do not have to wait to long to get your gold back. These delays and losses are all part of the scam. Sadly this is how many of these companies now operate, it is very big business in the States and it has now started over here. It is time for stricter controls and warnings to be issued by the authorities. Too late however for the thousands who have already been ripped off!0 -
I have quite a few pieces of gold, some are ring with diamonds, garnets in etc and alsoa necklace with garnets in, none or brokem, entered weight into gardenmerchants thingy, and it quoted £950 !!! Is that right,as it all weights nearly 4.5oz, but obviously includes the weight of the stones, can anyone help with advise as what to do please. would it be better to sell as jewellery as its all in perfect condition or as scrap gold ?
