I have quite a few pieces of gold, some are ring with diamonds, garnets in etc and alsoa necklace with garnets in, none or brokem, entered weight into gardenmerchants thingy, and it quoted £950 !!! Is that right,as it all weights nearly 4.5oz, but obviously includes the weight of the stones, can anyone help with advise as what to do please. would it be better to sell as jewellery as its all in perfect condition or as scrap gold ?

    many thanks in advance.

Sounds a very fair offer if it is all 9ct, . Check the weight again, check all have hallmarks saying 375 or 9ct etc, those that havent make a note of their weight, these may or may not be gold. If it is all 9ct you will get in the region of £7.20 per gram today less the stones and metal in clasps etc. 1 troy oz is 31.1 gm so 4.5oz = 140 gram = £1008. I would take out the diamond rings as the scrap value of the gold is not great in rings and it will not make much difference to the total (around £15 for each ring if 9ct). Pass the diamond rings on to family, they make nice presents at that price, or keep till diamond prices are better unless they are big stones of course. Take the diamond rings to a couple of pawnbrokers and ask them. The scrap value is the best and easiest option at the moment you would be very lucky to get more. Try Lois Jewellery, a lot of the trade deal with them they will pay the top price and also have a faultless reputation (check all reviews).

Well I decided to give them a phone today after everything I was told, couldn't wait until Friday! The oh so nice operator firstly put me on hold, then came back and said they had received the cheque back on the 14th September, their policy is to send back your items within 21 days. Basically then, I should be receiving my jewellery back within the next couple of days. Why do I feel nervous about it then? Surprisingly, I was not offered any more money or anything like that...very straight forward..hmm
I just hope I do get it back, all present and correct.

Thanks for replying. I did tell the guy on the phone I was looking for around £200, but he said they wouldn't go any more than £100. From what you're saying, that was a ridiculous offer then (£58!!) It was CashmyGold.co.uk, I saw it advertised on the daytime David Dickinson programme. I will wait until Friday(makes 3 weeks exactly since sending the cheque back) then give them a phone to see whats happened to my jewellery

Saw the advert earlier and it says if you're not happy, they send the jewellery STRAIGHT back! Perhaps remind them of that...
I won't be using them when I cash mine in.

I did remind them how quick they were to send the original envelope to me (two days!), not so quick to send the items back.

Phone them up and ask them direct what they pay per gram on todays prices for 9ct gold, it should be around £7 with a reputable company. From what I have heard this company will pay up to £5 if pushed (You were offered £1!). Once they give you this information ,which they fight hard not to, you can then ask them as a matter of interest for an updated valuation based on todays price. Once (and if) you get your gold back and armed with your new knowledge you can look forward to getting around £350 to £380 if it is all 9ct!
Hope you do not have to wait to long to get your gold back. These delays and losses are all part of the scam. Sadly this is how many of these companies now operate, it is very big business in the States and it has now started over here. It is time for stricter controls and warnings to be issued by the authorities. Too late however for the thousands who have already been ripped off!
I phoned Postal Gold and they would not tell me what they pay per gram!!
They said it would be misleading! Most companies will tell you what they are paying at that moment in time but they would not. I asked if they pay the market value but again they would not be drawn. Seems they work this way and rely on people being very gullable, so many bad reviews too except the odd one that they may have sent in themselves! What nice people they are!

    Hi
just thought i'd let you know.
I had a few bits and bobs of gold and was very dubious about posting it off to any of these places advertised on tv,so i nipped into my local jewellers and although they wouldn't say whay they were paying per gram they valued the 9ct at 105.00 and the 22ct ring at 50.00.

Having read through the various threads on here regarding selling gold i decided to give hatton metals a go,sent it off yesterday am (special delivery 4.50ish) and money is now in my bank 231.00:j so was well worth sending off.

however although my experience with this company was good (and it was only bits of old broken jewellery) i'm not sure i would send anything through the post if i thought it had a huge value.

I'm glad you got a good deal on your gold. I was wary about sending items through the post, and i do so regret doing it now.

I stupidly assumed, as cash my gold was advertised on ITV they would have been checked out.

I rejected their offer, then sent the cheque back. Unfortunately after over 3 weeks I am still waiting on my items to be returned. I have called them 4 times with no joy, as they say the jewellery is kept at a different location to the number I call and they need to contact them...oh! blah blah blah I am so angry now, with myself mostly. This was jewellery i had collected over the years and was in excellent condition. Don't think I'll ever get it back.

Hi all just to let you know i work for H Samuel and we now offer this service . just thought some may prefer to use a well know company . :)
  • You still nearly always get more on ebay if you show it on a digital set of scales and if you have had it tested or it is hallmarked.
I was offered £35 for some bits of gold (can't remember the weight now) and I split them up and sold the real scraps by weight, the two diamond rings and an emerald ring and wedding band on ebay and made over £100 profit after fees - I wouldn't touch these 'webuygold' places with a bargepole as they go purely by weight and don't take into account the value of stones or intrinsic value (e.g. if it's an antique) etc - if you have stones don't send to these people as you will get less than it's worth.
First time mummy to be and saving the pennies!
