From my information ( I know one of the reps) many do start off offering 50p per gram, the telephone reps are paid commisssion based on how cheap they can get the gold of you. Around 50% of people, usually the older people accept the first offer - usually on larger weights. (People will think twice about accepting £5 for a 10 gram bracelet but when offered £100 for 200 grams they think they are doing well!). This tv company will go up to £6 if pushed but most is bought under £3 a gram. Customers think because the company is on tv or sponsoring a show they are being treated fairly, how wrong they are, it is about time this scam was highlighted on Watchdog.0 -

Yip, spot on! As you know, I was offered £58 for 56grams! By cashmygold.co.uk
They received the cheque I returned on 14th September. I only received my jewellery back yesterday! I'm so glad I eventually got it though, I didn't think I'd see it again.
I'm not sure I will attempt to sell it again as this 'Get great prices for your old gold' carry on is so hyped up now I think we're all being ripped off.
btw, I emailed ITV to let them know what happened to me with this company.0 -
I have just used Hatton Garden Metals for the first time and I am so impressed with the turnaround time, price and service. I posted my unwanted gold on Tuesday afternoon (special delivery), they agreed with my weight of 42grams and within 20hrs the money was in my bank account, they paid me the acual price goldfix price they show on their website( £7.33 a gram toda). I found them to be an honest, fair company!0

Hi, I sent my scrap gold off to one of the companies that provided a free envelope and had nothing but trouble. First they sent me an email saying what I sent was not gold (I knew that it was because I bought it myself and checked hallmarks). They they tried to charge me £9 to return my items or they would destroy them. I then emailed querying their analyses and was told that all the items were silver plated. I finally phoned them asking why was it all gold in colour if it was silverplated and was told "oh, someone must have made a mistake, it is gold but there is not enough weight for us to purchase it from you". In the end they sent it back for free - but I could so easily have lost it. There was a good handful of broken jewellery and I got £85 for it from my local jewellers. Just a shame I didn't go there first.I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0

Hi
Stupid question, but how can I get my gold weighed accurately?
Thanks0 -
I sent mine to Hatton Garden Metals. Cannot rate them highly enough. Sent the package last Saturday and the money was in my account Monday lunchtime.Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.0

Hello all - a quick word of warning about postal gold buying sites. We used one that advertises extensively on TV, and sent off our little package. They promptly sent a cheque for about £130, with no explanation how that amount was arrived at. We returned the cheque, as we felt it was a bit odd and very strange to have no explanation (amount per ounce, etc?) and next day received a phone call offering £320. Felt this was getting very dodgy, so we requested return of gold. Gold returned ok. Went to local jewellery shop, offered around £1100 for the same items, with an itemised valuation. I am sure there are good and bad, so check carefully how much you are being offered and why. There is tons of advice on the web. Seller Beware maybe!!!0
