Technically whoever told you that was correct. You were charged the price that is set on the pricing system. That is the correct price as charged in 99% of Tesco stores at the time of purchase. The problem occurs when a price integrity department fails to put out a label indicating the correct price. Therefore, you have been charged the price that you would have been charged anyway - it is simply that a failure to display the new higher price has occured. If all price integrity departments were perfect then "overcharging" as the common name has become (when really it should be mispricing - as per thread title) would not happen. Therefore, it is the price on the tills that is correct and the SELs that can be wrong.

HOWEVER, if a price displayed is lower than the price charged at the point of sale then that is misprepresentation and therefore wrong. I can see why people think that they are being "overcharged" when really they are being charged the correct price as set on the pricing system.
Yes, I think sometimes this is right. But the majority of things I have seen are where a new offer is starting, and is sometimes being heavily promoted e.g. 'Batman Begins' this week on a special offer at 12.97 with a big new yellow SEL next to it. However the old stock has not been repriced correctly, and it scans at £14.97. See also parmesan, outdoor pork, cheese in general. This seems to me to be serious overcharging as the more obvious price attracts customers looking for bargains, who usually fail to notice that they have not paid the price they think they have, especially with per kg prices. I didn't feel bad getting Batman Begins refunded as I knew that other people had been charged more than they thought earlier in the day. After I had been, the store had the chance to sort it out. ( Admittedly I had a new dvd too, so we both gain??? :snow_laug )
I did notice an underprice this week, but think if I took it to CS they would laugh at me- but if they give me an incentive to do so, I will. I have previously pointed out overcharges without going for r and r. I came back later in the day and they were still there. But not for long...

Yeah, but like everyone else I like an odd freebie here and there! Only joking anyway, just shows the difference in staffing - my local store is v. good really, with quite nice staff who actually seem to care about their store.

I think that the reality is that many people wanted to get something for nothing and then have the opportunity to be really smug and self righteous while bragging about it.

Personally, I'd settle for getting something for nothing and I thought I was in luck today when I saw Kaiser Chiefs - Employment, Poster £7.97 and SEL £9.77. However, it scanned at the lower price and I for one am not enough of a hypocrite to then try to get out of buying something when I've been charged the correct price. Not a bad album though, so I'm happy enough.

Can anyone tell me if Tesco's policy holds good with being overcharged online? I have been overcharged by £10 on a case of wine (they didn't take the ecoupons into account)

    Thanks in advance.

Please does anyone know the answer to this?

Does Teso policy cover goods bought online?

    Thanks.

Best to look just after their offers change, when occasionally they'll leave old posters etc in place. A lot of booze offers end 6/12 according to yellow labels in store. However - you may see a label which appears to be out of date but the promotion has been extended, also some stores will insist there's no overprice (although there is) as the end date is stated on the label.

Good luck with your hunt - if you find some I expect an invitation :D

And beware of offers being closed BEFORE due date - in this case 6/12/05, but shopping on 5/12/05 did not produce the heavily emphasised BOGOF.

its a till prompt call "Price verification" - its been available for years and we use it alot in our store. Its there as an internal check so that pre priced items prices can be verified at the point of sale. The cashier can then override the system price with the pre price on the packaging if the system price is wrong. This check obviously works with the self scan tills too hence the "Do you agree" question.

Books are NOT a franchise, Tesco ARE bothered about misprices, the CS obviously needs a little?! more training.

Welcome back spa2K - for the duration?
    Bonne fete either way

I too will try to get the item free if i can but i am also prepared to pay at the checkout if the item in question comes out at the SEL.

i don't look for things that i can get free just for the sake of it.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
