The spin you some !!!!!! about needing it to prove the refund has been given (ie so it's not a CS themselves actually taking the refund and pocketing it).
May I remind everyone that you do NOT have to give any personal details if you do not wish. They cannot force you, however to avoid an arguement and them remembering you simply make up an address.
    I usually go for:
    29 acacia avenue, random postcode
    (Tonight I AM Bananaman!)
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
  • I just went and bought a couple of CD's which were mispriced against the poster, I was informed this poster was for Tesco.com and therefore was online prices, just to show you how much they charge online. I know this is a load of rubbish but I had 3 people telling me this at the same time. In the end I asked for a full refund and left the cd's. I hate this tesco's the people are so rude. I didn't want to cause a fuss and get banned, I'm just waiting for a big misprice so I can go and hit them with it.

It doesn't matter what the posters are 'intended' for.

They are on display in the store, and as such lead the consumer to believe that these are the prices they are to pay for the items.
If this was NOT the case, they should not be displaying the posters as this is deliberately misleading the consumer, which is clearly a flagrant breach of the law.

Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader.

When I get ask for my name and address I say 'I think you'll find that is illegal
maybe you should check with a manager. This usualy stops them in their tracks but doesn't cause enough fuss for them to remember you.

It is not illegal for them to ask but they must not press you if you say no because they have no legal right to the information and it would be illegal for them to insist once you'd indicated you didn't wish to give the information.

    hope this helps

First time I've posted in this thread, but have been reading for ages.
Well over Xmas, I stayed at my mums, in Blackpool and just had to visit tesco.

I got my first refund from a bagged butter chicken (I remember they always seem to come up on here)
Guy at the CS was really nice, went to check the sel, £2.99, and it had gone through the till at £3.99.
But he mistakenly refunded me for 2 chickens, a total of £7.98.
When he came to mark off the reciept, he realised what he'd done, but basically said "Oh well, I've done it wrong, merry Xmas" :j
So not only a free chicken, but an extra £3.99 from Mr Tesco.

Oh how I wish there was a Tesco store nearer to where I live.

Seacroft Leeds Tesco Extra - War of the Worlds - on poster £12.76, charged £14.84
Miserable woman at CS would not refund, as this price was out of date(!) Got Manager and Head Office involved, but wouldn't budge. Think they are on dodgy ground - are we really expected to scrutinise posters / dispays; etc for dates? And HO told them to keep displaying the poster!
Was starting to feel slightly sorry for them, having got 3 Wet Wet Wet, 2 Stevie Wonder, Green Day, 2 Saturday NF, 80s and others I've forgotten. Not anymore - I'm desperate to get something else out of them now!

Well I think I just made my day!
Went back to store today and got

    I Love 60s
    Housework Songs
    Mariah Carey Mimi Special Edition
    Massive Dance
    Essential Hits
and Very Best of Power Ballads

    all R + R
( poster prices are all wrong to what they're scanning at ( w/c 26.12 )

I'd venture that there were more but many of the single cds ( ie not the thick compilations ) are in different security packaging that makes them not scan.
Also bought Classical Album 06, NME Essential and Euphoria - scanning correctly but wanted these anyway. Believe it or not, I had actually gone there to give them some trade after reading on here that they were having a sale on cds, but couldn't help trying the scanner.

Spent about £108 and got about £80 ish refunded.
Also noted yesterday that they had 'whited out' the price on War of the Worlds dvd on the poster - why did they do this if it wasn't misleading?!

Any price, be it the price on the label, the price on the shelf, poster or otherwise is the price you should pay - the lowest of those that is. Tesco would have you believe that all prices are the same, but obviously they !!!! up and you tend to find the CDs especially are mis priced. Check the CD poster and then the label on the shelf (SEL), if you spot they are different then move onto stage two! You should really find a self scanner in the aisles, which will scan the price. You want it to scan at the higher price. Go and pay and then present item and receipt to CS telling them the poster is why you bought it and the poster said £x.

If you haven't got a self scanner then you can just flip through the checkout, carefully and discreetly checking each item. Do not jump for joy when it goes through at the higher price or you may draw attention to yourself!

In and around the store, usually near the CS, is a blue poster which says 'if things don't add up.............' it then goes on to tell you that you are entitled to a FULL refund and the product for FREE. CS will try to talk you out of this on some occasions, as it is obviously from their own pockets (sigh). But stand firm and be polite, they won't.

Yes, you could use the self service thing to check the price and bin it if it is correct.
