  • We had a problem with the X box games, store refused refund and we were asked to leave the store, manager walked off with OH following asking in a loud voice if this is how they treated customers who had been overcharged. When we got to the door the manager was talking to security when OH approached again we were asked to leave, the manager said that OH had made threats to kill him, well red rag and bull come to mind. OH accused him of lying and asked to see the CCTV evidence of these threats as the manager knew full well no threats whatsoever had been made. Anyway I had to leave and pick up kids so OH stayed still talking with manager and security he had asked to see another manager who was higher than him, he got the security manager down, eventually OH left and waited outside for me to come back. He went back to the store and asked if he could pop back in and get HO number and security guard said yes. So he rang HO and they immediately said your absolutely right sir please go back to CS and get a full refund. The staff then said they were glad we were getting a refund as said manager was an a***.

To be honest, if everyone who has an issue wrote to Watchdog im sure the complaints would build up and something would be done.

Last night they had Audi on, after receiving 50 complaints about the TT. Im sure in a couple of weeks we would have 50 complaints about the policy.

Yes. A fine idea. I feel that there may well be a fair size backlash against Tesco very soon and forums like this and TV like watchdog are going to play a key role.

Maybe another forum post should be started listing all the cases that have been reported to watchdog/HO/TS so we can keep a track of them all?

I think the Watchdog route might be slightly dangerous. Tesco are much more likely to just revoke their overchange policy if they recieve such bad publicity over it.

Ok they are still breaking the law when it comes to overpricing but if their R&R policy generates so much overprice scruitiny from the general public that their public image is damaged then they will think that theres no point in them having it!

I know Tesco have this policy to help stop them getting in trouble with TS but think, Sainsbury Safeway Coop etc dont have so many people complaing about overcharges because they dont have so much focus on their prices.

I was overcharged on a product on a online order, CS confirmed the over price then said the r & r policy did not apply to online shopping..

so is it that the policy of "if the tills don't add up ...ect only applies if you are stood next to the till ?

Went to Tesco Quedgely this morning - bought a bag of sugar and 3 CDs (same title) - overcharged - cheaper sticker on product.

Note - this is not my usual Tesco!

Left the store, walked back in.

CS refused R&R (after talking to management) - quoted "management discretion" and wouldn't budge.

Contacted Head Office there and then - they expressed surprise - in turn spoke breifly to CS on my mobile who then promised to call me later today.

Took a refund - no goods.

Felt angry - went to another Tesco 10 miles away - did the same (less the sugar) and got R&R no problems at all.

Came home - call from Manager in Quedgley - concurred with his colleagues that R&R was at the store discretion - wouldn't budge.

Contacted HO - guy very nice & polite - promises to investigate.

He calls back - now very reticent and slightly nervous (him, not me!) - tells me that the store won't budge and I'm to receive a letter explaining why.

    Ask the guy why?

Guy makes reference to his "log" and me "not having made my purcahse in spirit of the R&R policy" (or words to that effect).

Asked HO if the national policy on R&R have changed - no - just this store and all will be clear in the letter to me......

As people have mentioned before ALL purchases and refunds are logged against your clubcard (when one is provided). A few clicks on the mouse when your receipt's barcode is scanned, and Tesco have your history on their screen.

If a CS or Manager could see (for example) that you had R&Rs on over a dozen CDs, a handful of DVDs and a heap of meat & fish in the last 2 months it might arouse reasonable suspicions that their policy is being taken unfair advantage of.

As has been suggested before if you are a serial R&R users it is likely that Tesco may take action to prevent you doing so in the future.

I would *strongly* suggest that regular R&Rers don't use their clubcard and pay cash. Then it's just down to how much the CS recognises your face. If they don't have an audit trail they are IMHO unlikely to flag you up as a serial user & take action against you.

    Rufus,

You are a star - if I could thank you more than once, I would!

I'm racking my brains if the CS lady did anything with my receipt in terms of scanning it before she wandered off....she may well have done....

!!!!!! me I've had quite a few R&Rs and have always used my clubcard - cash in future.

Salad bar comment made me smile Dude :T

Well I knew there was a PC ended on the 24th so I have traveled to a few stores today in search for a misspriced one, only Stockport had them and the yellow SEL was still there at £398 the scanners were on and ready not working. I was carrying this pc round the store trying to find a working scanner. I think I attracted attention to myself and I had 2 members of staff following me 1 one them was asking the other what was going on and I heard her tell him that there are people looking for mispriced items and we have to give them a refund if they mention one of our policys. the other person did go on about why not just refund the difference and she explained the policy to him.

Looks like I need to avoid Stockport for a while

Ohh the Goodmans portable DVD player doesnt have an expiry date on the SEL doesnt look like that will come up on r+r

Irlam still has the UNDER £29.97 xbox posters up if anyone wants to give it a try, 50 cent, Half life and 007 are all marked at £32.97. ALL the other stores have removed the posters.
