Keep going guys! You've had me checking online to make sure I'm definitely still back to a balance of £0.00. I am, and all the fraudulent transactions have been reversed, but it shows an overdue minimum payment of £5.95 (the same value as the first fraudulent transaction as it happens)
Clicking on the "Make a payment" button gives the message "There is no current balance outstanding on this account, so we are unable to accept a payment at this time."

I haven't bothered to call them to confirm safe receipt of the replacement card - I can do without spending time calling them so they can try to sell me some payment protection insurance...
I might try and buy something with the card. What are the chances it'll work anyway?

Aha, Ahar! You are trusting. My card is being ditched as soon as they have sorted out this mess, and I can get another card set up with a similar credit limit. Might be difficult though as I'm not working full time these days.

I fully understand how Mike feels, being at work is not the ideal place to try and sort this sort of garbage out. Maybe why I have sent so many letters and phone calls, too much time on my hands these days!!

We still wait. I will post how I get on.

  • So Julie, any update today? Has all the money been returned like they said? :rotfl:

AHAR - I can't believe you've even thought about using the card again! :rotfl: You're right about activating it though, they try and sell you too much stuff at that point.

Remember guys, plenty more cards out there, even some with cashback, I'm looking forward to the day this one gets cancelled! :D

Actually, upon closer inspection the card I received was a replacement for my other Barclaycard which will expire soon- I just assumed it was for the ex-Morgan Stanley account. (For that to be the case would have involved B'card doing something they said they would so I should have realised it couldn't be!)
I think I'll try to use it to satisfy my curiosity then cancel both Barclaycards, leaving me with just one CC left. Then I'll seek out a nice cashback card I think. Cha-ching!

Well, Plenty has happened today....I meant to post earlier, but frankly, all this is completely exhausting, I am spending so much time on trying not to get irritated and thinking about the whole stupid, silly situation, that when I do get to sleep, I dream about credit cards and wake up exhausted.

First thing was that the letter arrived from the Financial Ombudsman, together with an information leaflet, and forms to complete should it be necessary to go the whole hog. So far they confirm having written to Barclaycard, and have asked me to contact them again if no resolution is reached soon.

Second was ANOTHER letter from Barclaycard telling me that they have noticed something up with the *status* of my card, which has had a *safeguard* placed on it, and requesting I call them. These are coming with mind cringing regularity these days, and since I can't and don't want to use the account any more, it will simply go in the file with all the others.

Third was when I checked my account online this afternoon; Mike, you will be amazed - there HAS been a change. Some of the money has been refunded. Nothing like half, but rather more than a thousand pounds. It appears to be some of the smaller fraudulent transactions, but I still have to go through them all to check if the amounts match. I have no idea what this means, or if they plan to refund more, since of course I have no idea what is going on inside their heads. (If they have heads). I suppose I should be pleased, but since there is still another three thousand to go, I am not getting too excited.

I am very bemused, I feel like a cat watching a bowl of fish.....

I am going to go and check the transactions now and will post a bit more then.

Maybe phoning up and losing the plot when they ask you to fill more forms in IS the way to go. :)

  • Just been through the statement - nine of the fraudulent transactions have been refunded, which leaves four to go. Unfortunately three of those were the largest amounts, but it does concentrate things a little more.

I shall see what tomorrow brings - I have no idea why some of the transactions were refunded, and not others, since the shops used were the same in all cases.

BTW, the Ombudsman gives the official address complaint letters should be sent to at Barclaycard as:
    Barclays bank PLC,
    The Directors Office
    Customer Relationship Unit
    Barclaycard House
    Massey Road
    Stockton on Tees
    TS17 6EX

  • I just don't understand that Julie, why have somebody look through an account and only refund some of them?!
I just want all of them done so I can call to cancel the card!!!

Good work with the address. Maybe I'll write another letter this weekend

  • Another flurry of activity. I can't believe it was down to me, so have to assume that the Ombudsman's letter has arrived and people have been Prodded.

Best news of all is that ALL the money has now been refunded. That is such a big big relief. Still no explanation though, despite the fact that....:j:T:j

I also received a letter from Northampton marked *First Class* *Urgent* *Open Immediately*, which if I hadn't been looking for something with a Northampton postmark, would have made me think it was a Super Speshul Spam offer from Readers Digest. It told me very little apart from the fact that They had decided to refund all the money, that they were sorry if the fraud has caused me any stress, and please get in contact if I had any queries. This letter came from a Mysterious Department K.

Also, an email from the line manager of the Online Team, in response to my second email to them. reassuring me that someone was going to be in contact with me soon. I suspect the letter I had today, telling me nothing, is that letter.

So, despite having the money back, I still know nothing, and I still think that is Not Sufficient. I pay their bl** wages to acheive de nada, and Enquiring Minds want to know why such a major !!!! up was allowed to happen, and to go on for so long with people whistling on the sidelines.

Maybe you should write Mike, and mention the Financial Ombudsman in liberal dollops in your letter.

Anyhow, me thinks a large brandy is called for tonight....

How long overall did it take to get the money back?

Im in the process of claiming £400 back from Halifax after it was taken from my account (used in a foreign betting site). I filed the fraud report about 5 days ago
  • Hey Julie that's great news! You'll be able to get some sleep now!
Maybe I'll try and find some time at work to call the financial ombudsman!

I want some money back for the recorded delivery letters, I wonder if it'll be possible?
