  • That isn't good news Julie, I hope it isn't too hard to fix.
I have never heard of a 'block' before on a credit report, I will ask about it in the morning if I remember.

I called the Financial Ombudsman today and tbh, I didn't find them very helpful.
He said I had to wait 8 weeks from when I sent in my complaint letter. It has only been 4 weeks.
I think I'll be paying my minimum payment this month as I don't want to risk the negative bureaux information!

    Useless!!

I think the block is on anyone viewing the report...I can see this, in a skewed sort of way. If my card has been the subject of fraud, I've applied for another card, and then want to see the credit report on a flagged account with all the other stuff going on, just *maybe* they are being cautious and don't want to let anyone view the report online without checking me out personally. I'm hoping that this is the case, ha ha ha.....

The FO told me much the same as you heard Mike, but they also offered to write to Barclaycard at the same time, just to put my side of the case and remind Barclaycard that they had a legal obligation to get of their proverbial rear ends and do something. I think it is THAT letter that made the difference.

Anyhow, we plough on. And On. I hope you get your refund soon. Best of luck....

  • I stumbled across this thread via Google.

I too have had 2 cases of fraud on my new Barclaycard and both relating to my old, supposedly inactive Morgan Stanley card. After the first, I was told they could not stop any further cases until the migration of cards and transactions was complete; this fraud has to be an inside job.

The first fraud was via the Harrods website and I only noticed when goods I had not ordered were delivered to my address. They were addressed to someone else but they had been able to use my old Morgan Stanley card number but with someone else's name! When I spoke to Barclaycard, they were not even surprised - apparently some retailers don't even bother checking that the name and card number tally.

I have noticed a pattern with the transactions as the second fraud was with Dell and I notice someone else had fraud with them too - this was again using my card number but someone else's name. As before, I found out when the goods were delivered to my address.

So far I have only had the first fraudulent transaction credited but in the meantime Harrods have also refunded the transaction minus the delivery charge - I guess Barclaycard forgot to tell them that this was a fraudulent transaction. When I phoned Barclaycard for an explanation they said I "should contact Harrods for a complete refund". I remained calm and pointed out that as the transaction was fraudulent it was down to them to sort out a complete refund.

I await with interest to see if my other transaction is refunded...
  • Nermalthecat ...another great username. :)

What on earth did you get in the post? On my fraud *I* bought £2500 pounds worth of booze in one purchase. Unfortunately *I* took it away with me from the shop. I'd love to have received that from Royal Mail.

I have received another letter from Barclaycard, this one very interesting....They have said that at present, they can't answer my questions fully, many apologies, they are investigating further, and will be in touch by December 16th. The is the first time I have had an admission that they are unable to do something. All the other times I've had fluff, promises, and spin. I actually consider this progress, in a skewed sort of way.

Also, I have managed to check my credit report, after jumping through hoops. Luckily, the tag put on there doesn't seem to have effected the rating but it did scare off the card company I had applied to for a replacement to my Barclaycard. To be frank, that is a battle I can't face right now, the last two months with Barclaycard have been so fraught, that I am going to wait until I finally get my reply to the WHY did you allow this to happen. My husband has said all along he thinks it is an inside job.

Having just discovered this forum after a Google search for 'Barclaycard fraud' I thought I would add my own sorry tale:

My problems first began at the end of September soon after Barclaycard took over from Morgan Stanley / Goldfish. I received an email from Amazon.co.uk informing me that someone had attempted to create a new account using my Morgan Stanley card but with a different address. The attempt was blocked but unfortunately they would not reveal the address that was used for the application (the email did say it would provide that information to the credit card company or police).

When I checked my credit card statement online (now Barclaycard) I discovered a fraudulent transaction for goods totalling around £775 from a perfume supplier in Essex. Why this did not raise an alarm in their system for an ‘out of the ordinary transaction’ is beyond me. As a typical smelly single bloke, I’m not in the habit of taking baths in a few hundred pounds worth of perfume! I discovered the perfume supplier does have a web site. Unfortunately when I tried to contact them to try and track down where the goods had been delivered, I could get no reply. I contacted Barclaycard Customer Support and my Morgan Stanley card was subsequently blocked. Like many other people on this thread, the fraudulent transactions were made after the 22 Sept cut-off date when the Morgan Stanley card should have been invalid.

A few days later I received my card statement. To my horror I discovered yet more fraudulent transactions that had been processed before the card had been blocked. The total amount was now around £1700. This included one transaction made in Antwerp (never been to Belgium in my life!). Another was from an Essex based furniture company. The furniture company also has a web site and this time I did manage to talk to someone on the phone. The order was for a bed and chair placed in my name using a bogus email address. I was able to get the delivery address and a mobile number used to arrange delivery. I passed all the information on to Barclaycard fraud department.

Eight weeks, seven phone calls, two letters and three emails later I am still waiting for the fraudulent transactions to be removed from my account. When I phoned today to ask why nothing had been done I was told that Barclaycard had not received the completed dispute form I posted mid October. Now I have to wait for them to send me another form. This time I will make sure I use recorded delivery.

I was amazed when I was told by Barclaycard fraud department that they are not concerned with investigating or attempting to catch the people behind the fraud. They only deal with the admin i.e. blocking cards, dealing with dispute forms etc. It means that whoever is behind the fraud will probably get away with it, despite me giving them an address and phone number. The guy I spoke to in the fraud department even suggested that I contact the police myself. This completely contradicted what I had been told when I first reported the issue to Customer Services.

After experiencing Barclaycard Customer Services and their appalling Indian based call center, I intend to switch to another card company as soon as possible.
Are 'Egg' Customer Services any better? I'm considering the 'Egg Money' cashback card.
  • Welcome (I don't suppose that is really the word.) to our ever growing band. Keep on at the Minions of Darkness. You might find that contacting the financial ombudsman helps - it helped me get my money back, though not, so far, to get the explanation I want.

  • Hello, just joined up after having £6,200 taken from my Barclaycard. The thing is I haven't used this card for well over a year. I used it around 18 months ago and have since been paying it off bit by bit. This month was to be the final payment having only £85 left on it. I am almost sure this is an 'inside job' for two reasons, firstly as I've not used it for so long, I simply can't imagine that someone would steal the details 18 months ago and then wait until now to use them. Secondly its too much of a coincidence that someone has waiting until the maximum was available to spend before striking. I have reported to BC and have been promised the famous forms. However from reading the responses above I won't be holding my breath and will be getting my complaint letter in now.
  • dosh37 - my story sounds exactly like yours, and still nothing is sorted.
I sent my forms via recorded delivery and I am no further. It seems they are loosing all of them, or maybe they are very slow in dealing with them?

It might be worth contacting the financial ombudsman, but so far it hasn't helped me, the frauds still remain on my account.

    Good luck though!!

    Mike

The more cases I read about, the more it seems that we are dealing with an organised hit, timed to coincide with the transition from Morgan Stanley / Goldfish to Barclaycard. For some reason the fraud reports and complaints are being deliberately ignored and/or delayed by Barclaycard.

Credit card companies don't like publicity about card fraud - bad for business.
Maybe if we were to club together and get in touch with consumer groups such as BBC Watchdog, Daily Mail Moneymail Team etc. someone might take notice and we might get some action.
  • Yes there is no doubt it is organised, too much of a coincidence otherwise.

I have already been in touch with watchdog, and linked this thread in my report - nothing as yet!
