Thanls to the poster who posted the http://www.fsa.gov.uk/pubs/other/fscs_heritable.pdf link

That's really useful. So the FSCS paid "approximately" £3 billion to ING, and the UK treasury paid another "approximately" £600 million.

I suppose we can only hope that this covered all the Kaupthing Edge balances added together - oh, and it's got to cover the Heritable balances too. I suppose we're not going to find that out unless we manage to get the entire Kaupthing Edge and Heritable customer base to post what their balance was back on October 6th, and then someone adds them all together.

Then again - if there were enough of us, we could do it. But then, it would only prove a point.

Should the FSCS intervene further? Given the fact that the FSCS are still tied up with problems from Icesave right now, I'm kinda guessing that the FSCS might not intervene for a little while yet.

    Oh well ...
    :p
  • I telephoned the Treasury, who initially told me that there was nobody available to speak about our problems. When I then asked "Are you refusing to let me speak to someone?", I was put through to Darren Cramer, an Admin Officer in the Correspondence and Enquiry Unit.

He acknowledges that they're aware of the problem, but can give no timescale for a resolution, and that Treasury officials are liaising with ING Direct. He promised to pass my concerns upwards.

May be just platitudes, but it was worth a try from another tack.

Additional to the above - who has received the "manual payment" email, did anyone who CHAPS before the 8th receive the "manual payment" email from ING yesterday or today?

I have not received a 'manual payment' email and my CHAPS was requested at about 8.30 am ish on 08.10.08...

I now feel really really sick. Where the hell is Martin in our real hour of need?
What exactly do you expect Martin to do? Go to ING HQ and help them tap peoples details into the system (or whatever they need to do)?

I suspect that ING are doing their best to clear down the backlog given the circumstances they have been lumbered with. If they were in the process of clearing out the remaining transactions then the news about ING today (and no doubt the extra number of requests that has generated) will further add to the delay.

Still waiting for CHAPS from 7th too. Like Terrysdelight, we too are in the middle of a house purchase. What we all need is acknowledgement of the fact that CHAPS from 6th-9th haven't been paid and ING knows about them, followed by some explanation why and when it might be resolved. I would not have made this transfer by CHAPS if I hadn't needed the money at a specific time for a specific purpose and I suspect that applies to many others. Unfortunately, we seem to be the people in the worst possible situation as we are now a minority. If I 'd been able to wait an indefinite time for my money I would have left it in KE (before we knew ING was taking over) to be picked up by the FSCS like my Icesave account, and saved myself a fortnight of absolute misery that isn't over yet .

We would also like ING to stop hiding behind this smokescreen of manual transactions as it is now wearing somewhat thin - these were perfectly standard web initiated transactions.

Yes, exactly. This is total BS from ING. What confidence can we now have in them, when they have coincidentally run into major problems as a bank exactly at the time they default on our payments?

Anyone with any funds in any bank should be studying this carefully.

"Your money is safe" -- I haven't actually got any money at this moment.
