We would be in an even worse mess if the Tories had been in power for the last few years: even less regulation, even bigger City bonuses, all Davey and Georgie's Eton/Oxbridge mates sailing off into the sunset while you and I fight for our money.
Yes I do (and according to opinion polls so do the majority of the electorate). You on the other hand clearly don't.
Please remember that most of the Labour cabinet went to private school and top flight universities so take that into account when dismissing Conservative politicians as "toffs"."A weak currency arises from a weak economy, which in turn is the result of a weak government" - Gordon Brown 1992 -0 -
Is it me, or does HSBC always ask for the same combination of my passcode eeeeeevery time?
I shall be writing to them about it further when i get some time!0 -

I have already apologised for what was probably a knee-jerk reaction........however,when you reprimanded me you were actually incorrect in suggesting none of the points I raised had been mentioned before.... eg how could KE still be telling us last Tuesday/Wednesday all was fine and stable if they were actually insolvent ?("Trevor".. posted about that several days earlier},and the same question has been asked again since. My point about a continual flow of conflicting information has been shared by many....even now Martin's daily update tells us the missing funds are going back to KE!!
I have also seen plenty of posts asking about lost interest...in the case of CHAPS transfers,(not mine,I know) this could be more substantial in that it's supposed to have gone the same day......... and I wondered,(like others, not just me),if anyone such as a clearing bank had actually profitted from this.
With regard to group action,as I have already explained,I was merely saying if we do have any cause for complaint,it might be better to make one as a united front. This had also been suggested by at least one other previous poster I saw,so could I ask please that you refrain from suggesting that I am the only one who feels the whole thing might have been better handled?
Sorry jacara2, I had no intention of bringing this up again to have another dig as I know you apologised, I just thought I should mention it given what I said above, otherwise people may have thought I was being a bit hypocritical.
I won't go over the same stuff as I commented on previously, but just to answer some of your specific points above that perhaps I didn't comment on previously, I agree with you that KE lied about their liquidity early in the week, but given the circumstances I'm not sure they could do anything else could they? If they'd said on Monday they were in trouble and unlikely to last the week, the rush for withdrawls would have been 10 times as big as the one we saw, and the bank may have completely collapsed before the ING deal had been brokered, leaving us in a much worse position. Although I don't like being kept in the dark either, looking at the bigger picture I can see why they did it, because they (the government, ING and KE) needed to get everything in place in the background before making any annoucements, otherwise it could have all fallen through.
Regarding lost interest, I don't disagree that some have raised the point and I've not said that its wrong to think about recovering it, all Ive said is that with the small amount that the majority like myself have lost (say average £20k, a loss of interest for 2-3 days on that would be under £10), I personally don't think its a big issue for many of us who are primarily glad to have their money back.
Anyway, apologies again, as I said I didn't intend to drag this discussion up again or have another pop at you :beer:My Excel Mortgage Calculator Spreadsheet: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=11571730 -

It is past 2pm and no one has yet posted that they have received a BACS or a CHAPS payment today! I ust checked my Kaupthing Edge account to see if my CHAPS withdrawal made on 7th October has been "bounced back" but it has not and still shows a zero balance.0

We'll have to disagree then.
All I can say is that Tories record of economic mis-management in the last 20 years has been terrible - ERM, Black Wednesday, endowment mortgages, etc...etc..
And more to the point: it was nearly all of their own making, whereas the current strife is almost entirely a global issue (although, admittedly, the UK has been way over-leveraged)
You're a fool if you think we wouldn't be in this mess if the Tories had been in power. IT WOULD BE EVEN WORSE.0 -
has anyone phoned ING or KE today to ask what time they think the money will start coming through~? I'm getting really tired now, I just need my money to pay a builder - it seems unfair - but I still have hope we'll see it before the end of the day0

I guess many of us are nervously watching these messages at the moment for SOMEONE to say they have received a payment0
