When the money turns up, which I have no doubt that it will having followed this whole affair, how will we go about recovering lost interest earned ??
I'd think ING will issue a statement on this in due course, at the moment I guess they're just focussing on getting people reunited with their cash which is understandable.
Whether its worth pursuing or not anyway will depend on how much money is involved and how you originally intended on transferring it. For me, I originally requested BACS and my money (£12.5K) ended up being delayed by 2 days at most, so the amount of interest I'd have earned in those 2 days is less than £4, so I'm not going to worry about it personally. My Excel Mortgage Calculator Spreadsheet: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=11571730 -
says the one that wants to blow up iceland.....
i just don't like the fact that some fat cat is getting our interest that's all
Where from? When you make a BACS payment it disappears for a few days to prop up a big bank pot which is invested in the stock market... I doubt for one second this is making anyone any money.0 -
What an absolute stupid comparison!
In these exceptional circumstances, you don't have a "right" to anything you ungrateful idiot.
You should be thankful you have decent politicans who have stood up for you
You should be grateful you live in a wealthy, advanced nation that can afford to bail its citizens out.
You should be grateful you've got or will get your savings back.
99.9% of the people of the world don't have what you have.
And you're quibbling over, what, a hundred quid or so in interest.
Let me guess: you're a southern Tory.
What a fine pickle we'd be in now if Osborne and his chinless wonder mates had been in power instead of Labour. You'd be worrying about a lot more than a bit of lost intersest, I can tell you.0 -

Am I missing something here: why has every transaction had to go back to steam-age manual processing? My withdrawal from a KE account on 9 October was allocated a transaction number and confirmed on screen, and later a debit appeared in my account. All done by computer! (I'm still waiting, by the way.)
There's another reason for the phasing of these withdrawals, surely: it's to do with grand finance rather than over-worked staff, I believe.
I suspect the reason its being done "manually" is because the transactions have all taken place on KE's computer system, not INGs.
The way the two companies deal with transactions will undoubtedly be different, they're very unlikely to use the same software / databases etc to do this. KE's system will be set up to make payments from KE's banking architecture (which no longer exists), therefore at the very least there will need to be manual input of each transaction into INGs computer system, so their computer system can then go away and automate the payment. My Excel Mortgage Calculator Spreadsheet: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=11571730 -

Personally I do see this as a lesson learned in some respects and Im grateful the situation is being turned round quickly, so as mentioned previously I won't be pursuing any lost interest.
It's obviously a more important/costly issue for some than others though as we've all been affected differently, so there's certainly no need for personal insults if people do feel differently, although I do admit to previously feeling a little agitated when group action and compensation was voiced by a poster yesterday, as I do think that's over the top.My Excel Mortgage Calculator Spreadsheet: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=11571730
