morning all! been up since 5am (not too bad this year) by 6am i had dissapeared under a mountain of wrapping paper as the kids chucked it my way as they were madly unwrapping their presents. has calmed down now as they are busy playing with all their new things, while i put my feet up and drink tea and peruse the boards. hope everyone has a great day!!!!!!!

    Hi all and Merry Christmas!

How do you people manage to always post so early?

Also, how can you all be so very organised??? The only thing I have prepared for today is putting the dry breadcrusts in milk to soak to make the stuffing!

Our veggie Christmas meal is going to be:

HM Sage and Onion Stuffing (loads of it!)
    Yorkshire Pudding
    Roast Potatoes
    Roast Parsnips
    Roast Squash
    Honey-glazed Carrots with Sesame Seeds
    Buttered Leeks
    Sprouts with Chestnuts
Veg Gravy (not HM, just regular Bisto)
Mixed Salad (Leftover from last night hehehe)
Pandoro (an Italian traditional cake - a bit like Panettone but lighter)
Torrone (an Italian Nougat that my mum brought us from Italy)
    Assorted Fruits and Nuts

We have all the presents wrapped under the tree and waiting to be opened. I normally tell my family I do not want anything, or if they want to get me something to get something really small. But this year they all have been saying in advance 'that I am going to love my presents' etc... so I am really curious. My mother bought me something that looks dangerously like some sort of kitchen implement (Please God make it a decent frying pan, I need one!) but I have no idea what DH and the kids got me! Can't wait to open the packets....

Something interesting happened last night, my son had run out of wrapping paper and went to borrow some from friends (neighbours) who said: 'we hope you don't mind, it is 3 years old' - meaning they recycle the Xmas wrapping paper every year - why hadn't I thought of it? We always open our prezzies in such frenzy to see what's inside that we always waste all the paper! This year we will try to open them carefully and save the paper (well, I will, for one!)

I think that we shoud wrap presents in newspaper! But other people think I am nuts when I say this sort of thing LOL!

Kettle is boiling so I better go and get some breakfast ready before the rest of the family comes down.

Have a lovely beautiful peaceful fight-free Christmas, dear OSers!

    Ciao - BUON NATALE!

I'm at work. Here till about 12, so it's not too bad. Had a bad night as I've got a cold and couldn't breath.

Mum left a stocking for me this morning for me to open before work - it's the first one I've had in over 10 years!!!

We've got the traditional turkey and trimmings later with sis and BIL coming round

    Have a fabbo day everyone!!!:rudolf:

  • :xmastree: Hello everyone and a happy Christmas to all :xmastree:

For the second year running my daughters weekend job at a boarding/rescue cattery has turned out to be on Christmas day, OH and I are going with her this morning to help her get them fed and cleaned out and then we'll be going back this afternoon to give them their tea and put them to bed. We're also taking a few cat treats as well because it's Crimbo in the cat world too.

    The menu for today is:

breakfast -croissants and HM strawberry jam

lunch - smoked salmon and prawn salad, then lychee sorbet, followed by turkey saddle, HM celery and walnut stuffing, HM sage and onion stuffing, bread sauce, bacon and chipolatas etc then HM pudd.

We take a tray of Christmas dinner to an elderly lady too, she lives 3 miles away so it's a bit of a logistical exercise to get her food to her still hot whilst making sure that ours doesn't spoil at home through being kept on hold for a while.

evening meal - don't care -help yourself to what you can find

I normally have all the HM stuff in the freezer weeks ahead but this year I didn't have space in the freezer to get things done early so I spent virtually all day in the kitchen making more mince pies, the sorbet, sausages, terrine, quiche etc for Boxing day. I won't be doing that again, I was bu33ered by teatime.

We don't have any little kids at home, just our 19 & 20 yo. so it's not chaotic and if the day goes as in previous years they both has a little nap in the afternoon - isn't that sweet, just like when they were babies - but this is more to do with the fact they they were both out till late last night.

The Scrabble and Trivial Persuit tournament season starts tomorrow with a vengance, it usually ends up with accusations of cheating and parental help (they have never heard of Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders) so much fun to be had.

I hope that everyone has a well deserved break over the next few days

Funny you should say that as its an abiding memory of mine of having to unwrap carefully to save the paper....let your family have an unwrapping frenzy and not have them remember Christmas for having to unwrap carefully for Mum icon11.gif

Unwrapping frenzy is long finished, breakfast is Maltesers, lunch will be on the go as we are heading to the Zoo later icon7.gif

Have a happy day folks :xmassign:

Morning Everyone & a very merry Christmas

It's all still quiet here, Hubby's still in bed with Spud snoozing beside him so I'm having a peaceful cup of coffee & a crossiant whilst listening to classic FM. We don't unwrap our pressies until after lunch so no wrapping paper frenzy (and I do unwrap mine carefully & re-use the paper! I hate people who put too much sellotape on so that I have to rip it:p) Am hoping to get hubby up in time to come to church with me this morning before my parents arrive for my first ever Chrismas lunch at my home (Beef Wellignton & roasted veggies).

No TV allowed today or tomorrow so we'll be playing board games & cards into the night!

    Have a good one everyone.

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!
  • Both OH & DD are still asleep  So very quiet here ;)

Have just called me mam to wish her a merry xmas and has informed me that she has bought DD a Hifi System as her main pressy and a ton of other stuff  and my sis has bought her a computer with a flat screen monitor and loads of other stuff  they have too much money to burn. Its gonna make our pressies look a little boring as we've got her her DS nintendo in pink she wanted  a couple of games for it and quite a few other bits, but mainly art/animal stuff as thats what she likes. Never mind-its gonna be a great day for her anyway ;)

Having a full english in the next hour or so:sausage, hash, bacon, fried slice, mushrooms, beans, toms, toast and a brew.

Dinner will be later this afternoon: chicken/lamb, roasties, mash/new pots, HM yorkies, stuffing, swede/carrot mash, sprouts, carrots, pig in blankets and tons of HM gravy :p Pudding is either: Xmas pud/trifle or mince pies or all of them..lol.

    Happy Christmas All.

I've been up all night, had a bit of a fall yesterday and made my Arthritis worse but never mind. At least I heard Santa while I was awake. I think he called and left pressies for the dog.
I have nothing to do today so I've already ordered of lots of lovely goodies from M&S much to MrW's amusement. I shall have a shower soon and titivate myself up a bit before our neighbours come round for coffee. I expect the boys will arrive hungover at about 12 o'clock ready for going out to lunch at 1.30. We will open our presents when they get here.
    Have a lovely day.

    Happy Xmas to you all,

Have opened our presents, I have lots of nice little things. Am going to Mum's house soon even though she's at work till 3.30 (she's a nurse) to keep my sisters company. Then I'll help my sis make the dinner. She's been a cook for her job so will be better at it than me even though she's younger!

Hope you all have a great day
    Sarah
