Just want to add my note to everyone elses - I don't really join in this thread often because nothing noteworthy ever happens chez apprentice - but I read them each day.

I've really enjoyed MSE since I joined properly in April this year but I want to say a particulary big thank you to all the OSers, you've validated some of my tight ar$$ed ideas and given me loads more that I wouldn't have thought of in my wildest dreams (or is it my worst nightmares?)

I think that Squeaky deserves the biggest thanks of all, nothing is too much trouble for him and this board wouldn't be the same without his imput.

SQUEAKY . Thanks from me too. Nothing is ever too much trouble when we need you. You're a star.

Happy New Year and all the very best for 2006. Maisie

Happy New Year to everyone - hope 2006 brings everyone lots of happiness.

I don't post that often, but am an avid reader of OS, and would like to thank everyone for their helpful hints and tips, the camaradarie and feeling that there will always be someone there for you.

2005 hasn't been a bad year for me. Highlights have included getting a breadmaker (I was a bit worried that it might become a gadget that soon languishes at the back of a cupboard, but it's shown no signs of doing so yet!) and learning how to sell books on Amazon - both inspired by postings I have read here.

Earlier this evening I wrote out a list of financial goals for 2006. The main one continues to be to keep overpaying the mortgage as much as possible, so that we can semi retire to the country as soon as possible. The current target for this is September 2008, although I hope with all the useful information I glean from MSE to be able to accelerate this.

Am writing this snuggled up in today's bargain - one of a pair of fleecy throws from Primark for £4. I also treated myself to a pretty £4 top while we were there and thought that both items were really good value. I would have liked to have a quick look round Sainsburys while I was out as they always have good reductions but the freezer is still really full, so didn't bother in the end.

We don't really go in for NYE celebrations, so I'm sitting here with the cat, who is a little nervous of the fireworks, while Mr Hornet is playing a loud shooty type pc game.

Whatever everyone else is doing tonight - enjoy!

Happy New Year to everyone here on OS, especially the regulars whose posts have made me both laugh and cry this year. Some of you are so optimistic and positive you make me ashamed sometimes and some of you should be comedy writers! Special thanks also to Squeaky whol never fails to point us in the right direction for the answers to the weird and wonderful questions that are asked of the OS brigade! I think the best thing of all on the OS boards is the friendliness and supportive nature of the people on here so thank you all for that. I don't post very often, but read all the time. OH thinks I am having an online affair!

Changes I have made this year:1) buying a breadmaker; 2) buying it on ebay; 3) using the breadmaker every day, almost; 4) starting to sell books on Amazon (thanks Apprentice Tycoon!); 5) starting to sell things on ebay; 6) having the confidence to re-evaluate that I spend too much time working and not enough with my son and resolving to change that this year!

Good luck to you all for a wonderful 2006!

I would like to get down from 12st to 10st 7lb BUT quite like being my current dress size (14) so will see how it goes. Will NOT be joining a gym this time though! Much more MSE to go for plenty of brisk walks in our local (big and lovely) park. P.S. I decided a couple of years ago that NYR's shouldn't kick in until the day I go back to work after the Christmas/New Year break - otherwise I don't stand a chance of sticking to them, with all that yummy food and drink still in the fridge!

Right. Must go and get dressed...

Ooooh, can we be diet buddies??? I am 12.5 ish stone, 5ft 11, and would like to get to 10st (in an ideal world), but probably nearer 11st. I do go to the gym, have been three days in a row, but have grown up with an underactive thyroid (thats my excuse and im sticking with it) :0) - so it is much harder for me to lose weight, so need encouragement if anything else? PM me :0)

I hope you had a good NYE.

  • One of the advantages of being a Boring Old Flatulencer is that New Year’s Eve is really no different from any other day – hee hee but the very best of wishes to everyone of course. :D

I did go and do the shopping at Tescos, was there by 9:00am with my shopping list. I spent £37.70. Parking’s free – hooray. Then I wandered off down town to the coffee bar for some Old Style lounging about and a read of their newspapers - £1.40 for a large coffee – phew!

Just a thought here… whilst in the Super Market… It still amazes me the number of people, particularly the ladies who look at me reading and checking my list and comparing the product labels and so on… I wonder if some of them are MSE Old Stylers too? I always give them a really nice smile. One lady passed me three times – yes… really… honest.. hee hee so of course I gave her three really nice smiles - lol

As for New Year’s Evening I stayed in, pottered about as you do. Made a Shepherds Pie for tea, thumbed through the latest seed catalogues and browsed about on the Internet Thingy for a while. I’m particularly intrigued with the MSE Butter Making thread and will be definitely giving that a try so most of the browsing was getting lots of good information about it.
