Hello again :xmassmile
I made the foolish mistake this morning of arriving at Tesco at 10am. What stupid idea did I have of going shopping the day before Christmas Eve? :wall: :wall: Needless to say, I was in there for as short a time as possible, only took a basket, got the bare minimum and still forgot some stuff! I was going to make a hamper for my gran's present, however, I'm settling for the old faithful: box of Ferrero Rocher and a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream.Oooops. My grandpa on the otherhand is getting a book about cricket (from the Book People) and a jar of really nice, home made (not by me) marmalade.
Sorry to hear that you're not having a great time MrsMW. My (other) gran died on 15th Dec 1997.I still think about her, but always think how lucky she was to die during "Countdown", having had a glass of sherry at lunchtime.
She'll be giving Richard Whiteley what for up in the great big Countdown studio in the sky!
I've had good news! My (distant) cousin in Canada has given birth to a baby girl! I'm so pleased for her.
Whilst typing away on this thread, I'm also looking into what I can get in the Boots January sale. I've already got 2 Early Learning Centre "airports" in my basket for our godson and friend's daughter for their birthdays: they should be £20 each, but in the sale they're £10! What a bargain. That's one less thing to buy/remember to buy later in 2006. OH thought that it was hilarious when I told him about "stocking up" on presents, but realised that this means that he doesn't have to splash out more money than necessary if we apply savvy shopping in our purchases!
Been to our local butchers - what a delight! They source the vast majority of their meat from a 10 mile radius of our town. I was also very picky and asked for a precise number of rashers of bacon, and he was very happy to oblige. In other places, you get what you're given. Shame we're not having Christmas here, as I'd have raided their shop.
See you later

Merry Xmas Eve Eve! :santa2:
I have been to work, but they kindly let us go at 2.30. Hooray! I went to Tescos late yesterday (11.00pm) and it was manic, so I got my few bits and left asap. At least I'm totally done now.
Since I got home I've treated a stain on a bathmat (OH spilt some mouthwash on there when he came home drunk from a work party last week  and put that with some other whites in the WM and will hang on the airer when done.
Have some dishes to wash up, but may be lazy and leave them till after dinner as will only have to wash up our dinner plates too. I want to clean the bathroom throughly today also.
As I'm feeling lazy I might plonk myself on the sofa and watch the episodes of MMR I recorded last week.
Tonight I have to babysit but don't mind even if it's a late one as I can have a lie in tomorrow. I will take some books with me to read.
Have a good aone all!Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0 -
OH home, tree decorated by thriftlings with only one serious argument over silver tinsel. Will rearrange tree when they're all in bed.'Spies eaten though not by ds2-'don't like the white stuff'.Dd just informed me that she doesn't like mince pie either, good more for us.
Two of the thriftlings have been playing hide and seek in wardrobe(how lovely and old-fashioned) and have discovered new dressing-gowns intended as FC next-to-stocking-filler.Will go and soak in the bath and think up good cover story. :xmastree:0 -
Merry christams eve, eve everyone,
Have not been around for a bit, got a little depressed about my job as I work shifts including weekends christmas day, new years eve all through the night and have done for 9 year but it's this time of year it really gets to me but we have got used to the money which is really good for around here...
So.. after speaking to DH I have handed in my notice.. god only knows how we will manage but I am not going to worry about it till after christmas when I will do a new buget and cut the cloth, it's a lifestyle choice and i WISH WE HAD DONE IT YEARS AGO.
Have really started to get the children (14, 5, & 3) buzzing now about Sunday.. love it...0 -
GIRLPOWER - You are sooooo brave! I wish I could do the same, I hate, hate, HATE my job and know that in a blink my children will be gone to uni. Then I will be rattling round in this big house without them. I work all hours and spend all weekend catching up - not enjoying the family! But my OH is semi retired and I just wonder if we could manage. It's also that I've worked hard to get where I am and it seems a shame to pack it in (I could never go back). Everyone thinks I love my job and I'm good at it and efficient so they wouldn't understand.
Good for you. I really hope it turns out well.Love living in a village in the country side0 -
Evening All!!
Boyf did well today, he went to the DVLA in a timely fashion and put in the information for my refund, and paid in the cheque to the correct account at the bank which I instructed him to last night. His car had a dead battery this morning, and had the rescue people out to sort it, and a few other problems too so I can now get on with important things like servicing it over xmas (his bonnet popper thing died and we couldnt access the engine). He also did a few small cleaning jobs and has generally behaved himself so all is well there.
Work wasn't too bad today, people were generally pleasant and I kept myself busy opening shed loads of accounts, so the day flew. I ate plenty of chocolate, and even had some bucks fizz in the afternoon (but only a touch really because im not too good with booze and would end up making a mistake and giving someone a grand or something....) Im now in the PJ's and planning the next load of tasks, which are:
Food shopping - this evening (possibly around 2am as I dont fancy battling with some old crazy person over a carrot)
Cleaning - Tomorrow morning (impending home visit from boyf's parents so must spruce the place up a bit so I look like a good girlfriend)
Cleaning me - Tomorrow afternoon (again, impending home visit warrants plucking eyebrows and doing nails etc so I dont look like a tramp of a girlfriend)
Eating - Tomorrow evening, out with Boyf's parents (I wish I was a drinker so I could just get quietly sloshed a the end of the table)
Im off to watch TV for a bit, im exhausted thinking about it!

Good for you girlpower! If it was really making you unhappy you have definitely done the right thing, if you are determined and have faith you will manage somehow. Good luck to you!Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0

Hi everyone
Just wanted to wish you all everything you want for Xmas & the New Year. I have been watching this site over the last few days from my hospital bed (since Wed 14th in fact), horribly expensive (20p/12min) so didn't stay on long at a time. Finally arrived home about 5.30 after having a lumbar puncture this afternoon (after the pair this morning trying 3 times & getting nowhere :snow_laug ) am now afraid to drink because of all the holes. But at least am home for Xmas even thogh OH has now gone to work as he is on nights over Xmas & new year.
Anyway Merry Christmas to one & all & wishing everyone a debt free year ahead. :xmastree:Love to save & love a bargain0 -
I would just like to say thank you Old Style.
My cupboards have never been so full.
Ever. They are bulging.
Or rather were.
Due to excess weight, the biggest has just fallen off the wall!!!!!!!!!!0 -
We're all ill.
Been up since midnight, every single one of us hasn't known which end to deal with first (sorry - too much info) Just managed to get kids to bed, they've not been sick since lunchtime and I'm hoping they'll sleep through.
DH was so ill I called the doctor but they wouldn't come out and give him anything, the doctor said it's best to keep ourselves in quarintine for a few days as this nasty bug is doing the rounds......so that's our Xmas up the shoot!!! Phoned everyone that was coming and put them off - given the Turkey to mother to cook and freeze down for us and am feeling totally miserable.
Still got pressies to wrap - there's a telly in the loft for DD1 but I can't even begin to think how we're going to get it down as we've both strained ourselves. Might just send her up the loft ladder on Xmas morning to take a look.....lol
Sorry to moan - lets hope we're all feeling perkier in the morning...I'm off to have another ice pop......nice and refreshing and about as much liquid as I can cope with.
