  • Hi All,
Had a great (free) day out. Went to Symphony Hall in Birmingham to a BBc radio
live Christmas show. So Ive been on the radio today - or at least me singing Xmas carols and clapping along with the other 1999 people who were there! Went with my mum and her friend and the radio show even sent free bus tickets. Had lunch after bought by mums friend. Unfortunately no bus showed up to take us home so had to get a taxi home with mum, who went halves, as had to be back to collect DD's from school.
Great show, lots of radio personalities, Lord and Lady mayors from Birmingham and Wolverhampton, Joe Pasquale and Mina Anwar (panto in Brum) the stars from the Rat Pack (on show in Brum) "Dorothy" from the Wizard of Oz (also on show in Brum) the Fire Brigade band and a male voice choir - loads of show songs and carols. Had a good look around and discovered there was not a single soul there under 65 - except for me (36!) but do I care - no! (OH thought it was hilarious though)
DD's are now on holiday from school, so we have watched the infant schools 3 nativity plays on DVD at least 3 times since I picked them up from school, and they have just had a big fight which I have broken up.
Tomorrow Im braving Aldi to get the last minute veggies for Xmas, and then Sainsburys to pick up a birthday cake for OH who is going to be 40 on Xmas day!

thanks for the hugs and stuff everyone! You guys are great!!! :grouphug:

Calmed down a bit now after sitting down with a glass of mulled wine ;), some german biccies, mini stollen (all from lidl) and a christmas dvd "Christmas with the Kranks". Just chilled out for a bit and now im feeling slightly less emotional! (Though i did cry at the film! :o)

One problem solved is that my dad is going to drive all the way to the other side of the city on his way home from work to put my job application through the Inland Revenues door (hope they have a letterbox!) and pick up dreaded "get lost" letter from tesco from the sorting office in the morning. Bless him. :)

He came and picked up the application form and post-picky-uppy card before.. after he had to leave work around dinner time..mum had a bit of a crisis! She ordered a christmas frozen hamper from her milkman and when it arrived this morning there was more than she expected so cant fit most of it in her freezer! So my dad had to go home and pick up 2 iceland sacks full of stuff and bring it here so i could get it in my freezer before it defrosted! :rotfl: I have the Turkey and Gammon joint here too.. so hope we all remember in time for them to be taken out and defrosted before sunday! :rotfl:

:rudolf: Glad you're feeling better Johanne :)

I've been into town and bought lots of meat from the butchers. I love this OS way of shopping. Tell me which Tesco I could have got 5lb lean mince (split into 1 lb bags), 5lb pork chops and 5lb lovely lean shoulder steak, all local and for under £20 :D Just need to split the steak and chops into smaller portions and freeze tonight. Also got some lovely baubles for the humungous tree at 75% off so we have enough now.

DS1 is back at his evening Xmas concert so have to go out and pick him up again just after 7. Tonight I will get on and finish all those little jobs that need doing, save for hoovering ie clean bedding on spare bed, clear away wrapping stuff from said room and big clean of the bathrooms and toilets.

Ok, must go and deliver something to a neighbour before I pick up DS. Then it's home, kids in bed, Corrie and then a glass of mulled wine while I do those jobs (the Lidl Gluvein is lovely, and only £2.99 a bottle :D)

Glad you had a nice time PP:santa2:

    Catch ya all later

  • Well it hasn't been a very OS week so far in the purple house, this was all by choice though and had been planned and saved for. OH and I treated ourselves to a night away this weekend. We went to see Foo Fighters at Earls court on sunday night (tickets were expensive but were paid for months ago), we stayed in a £10 room at the travel lodge I found on another board and spent all day monday looking around the shops. We speant alot on travel but it couldn't be helped, we didn't spend too much on food which really pleased me. It was a brilliant gig and made such a change to get away for a little while. I have been feeling quite well too which made it so much more enjoyable! We went to Harrods too, I have never been before and it was pretty cool. We bought a few bits and bobs, nothing to expensive though I did see a rather nice Luis Vitton bag...........

Been into town today for a few more pressies, not many more to get now, just a few to cover for no shows from online orders etc. Had a bit of luck in Argos (I swore I would never go in there again after I spent an hour waiting the other day but this has made up for that) I was picking out a smothie maker from the catalogue and the ones I wanted were out of stock, I settled on a smaller Junior kenwood one and paid. I then lined up to collect it and the young man bought up a big box. I looked and though that it seemed way to big for the item, he handed it to me and it had a different name to the one I had ordered. I took it over to the catalogues and they had given me the wrong one BUT it was a much better one that was woth £10 more and was one of the ones showing as out of stock. I think someone has made an error in the stock room but this time i'm not complaining!!!

I am off to do our christmas food shop this evening then back home for some HM veggie soup and reduced granary bread, yum yum!

Then tomorrow we are taking the little ones to the zoo (with the tickets Pooky gave me from freecycle!!!!! Thanks Pooky the kids need a little distraction from the excitement) We are going to treat them to a lunch in the cafe there as they will freeze if I take a picnic. I would happily sit on a bench outside and eat my own food by I think the youngest will get a little upset if she can't have a nice warm plate of something, she likes here food, well they both do!!

:xmastree: Hee hee its nearly Christmas, I don't know who is more excited actually the children or me!!!!

Just sitting here watching MMR - OH recorded it for me again today :)

Busy day at work as most of us finished today for nearly 2 weeks and I'm glad of the break.

Posted last cards and presents off today and am about to go in the bedroom and wrap up OH's presents then I'm all done re Christmas preparations here :xmastree: :santa2: We've got crackers and Christmas Cake to take to relatives over Christmas as we've heard rumours there won't be any

Paid money from a survey in at lunchtime too and £100 we've made from selling things over the past few months decided to pay it into the bank rather than leave cash lying around and will then open a savings account to pay it into - we've done pretty well as since starting our clear out in mid September and including our carboot we've made about £160 now, spending the first £50 on our new bedside tables and the rest is now our wedding ring fund - some of it has come from selling a book on Amazon thanks to this site and it's been great motivation being able to add things to my sig each time I sell stuff - in the new year I'll try ebay with some stuff, have a car boot box ready for the better weather and I know my mum's got some books for amazon for me and a few more bits so hopefullly we'll be able to find some rings we like in the new year :j

Right must get on with wrapping pressies and sorting washing - need an early night as I've got a long drive tomorrow (about 200 miles  )

Hey, there are loads of people who've just hit their third star! Ruyareece and Purplegirluk1 have both got there recently too...

Had a productive shopping trip on the way home from work - popped into Lidl for the basics, then the co-op where I found a nice pack of plaice and a rolled lamb breast reduced to half price.

Had a lovely HM mushroom risotto for dinner and am drinking some lovely wine too :D

    Goooood Morning :hello:

Yesterday was a real corker of a day :D:D:D

I just *have* to boast about my 'Mini MSE's' (proud Queenie! :D )

When the boys returned yesterday evening, I couldn't see d10yo's face .... behind a huge, huge, HUGE "garden" he was holding ... at the end of his shopping trip, he used the last of his pocket money to buy me a small bunch of flowers - he Q'd for ages!! The man just kept giving him more and more, saying: "Go on, have another, it's Christmas!" . 3 bunches of lillies (5 stems in each), a bunch of carnations, bunch of "mums" and gypso too ... all for £3 :j :j Took me a time to find some recepticles to put them all in, but it's really cheered the house (and my heart :o ) Equally, while shopping, he found an item he thought would be appropriate for a certain gift ... he was enthusiastically telling me about it and stated: " ... and I thought, blow that, I'm not paying that much - saw something else which was reduced and another item! Got both for less than the first thing" :D:D

His 11yo brother was also a "Mini MSE". After his end of term Christmas Party (last Friday) - he arrived home, beaming, with the greeting (?) of: "I just LOVE that word FREE!" ;)

He pulled out of his pockets/bag:- heaps of Quality Streets; 3 bags of crisps (we don't buy those as a rule) an unopened bottle of fizzy pop - "I made sure I got an un-opened one, Mum, 'cos I didn't want to bring a flat one home" - and a bag of popcorn. I asked him if he was allowed to take that stuff  ...

"Well, when I went back for more (MORE!!!???) the teacher told me to take as much as I wanted; so I did" :D:D "But, I only chose the good stuff." ;)

= 2 Savvy Shoppers; 2 hagglers and a mother who wasn't too sure whether to laugh, cry, be embarrassed or proud.

I opted for laugh and be proud ;):D:D:D

In the evening, watched "Joseph and The Amazing Tech. Dream Coat" on TV - I had a real good sing-a-long (much to my boys

    > LOL ) I'm amazing at how the words all come tumbling out of my mouth and yet, it is years since I've heard/seen it :o Ok, I can't sing - but it was FUN :rotfl:

I recorderd River Cottage Christmas (which was on another channel/same time) and I'm looking forward to watching that when I get a quiet moment).

Today, the boys and I are going to be sorting out some bits to take along to a temp. Homeless Shelter which opens for Christmas. It doesn't "open" until Friday evening, so we have time to talk about and think about which items will bring the recipients most pleasure as well as deciding which "practical" items to take. I have a bag of clothing which I've shrunk out of that I need to re-fresh before even thinking about donating, so that will be the WM's task this morning ;)

Wishing you all a lovely day; (((hugs))) for anyone who may need/want them.

PS: Jo, sorry to read that you're not having a good start to the day ... but I am pleased you have your car MOT'd! B/f's car is *his* worry, not yours ;)
Hope the day goes ok at work ((Hugs))
