Hello everyone
It must be a 'time of the month' - for not sleeping, that is. I was on a roll last night and did all my laundry, save for the lot in the WM that did o/n and the load in TD, but all the rest is washed dried and ironed. Just got to put the boys stuff away this morning. I put an Xmas video on (Steve Martin - Mixed Nuts) and did the lot. Also wrapped those last pressies (incl my own!!), cleaned kitchen, tidied round and put BM on, without timer, so that I had to stay up to take bread out of BM. Eventually got to bed at 1.45 and DS2 came and woke me at 5.45 (or was it 4.45)
So, although the laundry is just about there, I'm now on my 2nd brekkie (toasted fruit loaf and tea, muesli first time) to get me going. Still haven't inventoried the freezers but as it's market day, I MUST do it as I want to stock up on the specials on 'ordinary' meat. Will do a quick check in the cupboards too in case there is something glaringly obvious missing
I need to vax the landing today. I refuse to put the vax back in the attic until it's done, so I've been falling over it for a couple of days:o Other than that, I will play one of DS2's games to try and get him to do his speech therapy exercises - he refuses to do them ATM. Then, tonight it's DS1's evening performance of the Xmas play, so back to church at 6.
Oh that reminds me, thanks Queenie, I need to make a broth today. I have some soaked and boiled pulses in my fridge - ran out of time the other day and quite fancy a minestrone for lunch.
PP - hope you have a lovely day at the zoo. I used to have an annual pass for Whipsnade and it was great to be able to pop up there whenever I wanted.
Hope the rest of you have a good day too :j

Morning all :hello:
Got home last night to discover I'd left the back door unlocked all day :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: but fortunately nothing happened! The alarm was set so if the door had been opened it would have gone off - and to get to the back door you'd have to get through a locked gate or climb over a tall hedge - but still, I'm feeling very lucky especially as we've had a lot of vandalism trouble from local kids lately. Luckily housemate is away for the week so what he doesn't know won't hurt himI'm very security conscious and have NEVER done that before! Must be going senile at the grand old age of 27...
Christmas is at last falling into place. I finally sent all my Christmas cards, booked the minicab for me and one of our priests to get home from church on Christmas morning (on expenses from church as we're both essential to the service), and bought (most of) the Christmas food!
The three main things I still have to do are to buy a present for my housemate (he's impossible to buy for - the only thing he likes is CDs, but he already has a collection filling up the entire house so I don't know what he hasn't got!), choose a solo to sing at our Christmas morning mass, and buy and decorate the Christmas tree (I like to leave that quite late anyway, as I don't believe Christmas should start until midnight leading into Christmas Day but I'm never actually available on the night to put it up then cos I'm always singing midnight mass).
Also I was intending to get some nice beers (bottled real ales) but Tesco had sold out of the ones that were on the £4 for 3 deal. So I'll have to pop into Asda where they have the same deal but on a much larger range of brands.
P-P - I hope you have a lovely time at the zoo.
Jo - your OH sounds like he needs a good swift kick up the backside. He's got no excuse for letting you "keep" him - it's not as if he's staying home to look after kids.
Just finished a yummy slice of Christmas cake - I know it's barely past breakfast time, but one of my colleagues brought some in for everybody
Lunch will be penne with butterbeans, reheated in the MW.
I shouldn't have much more than 2 days left of work before Christmas cos we generally get sent home at lunchtime on the last working day before Christmas :j
See you later

Last day at work for me. Don't have to go back until 5th Jan after today. Still not looking forward to the Dentists tomorrow (feeling a bit scared, worried and dizzy about it all), but I do feel much better than I did yesterday.
Will probably make some bread tomorrow morning, so that I have somethis nice to come back home to after 'the visit'.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.

I need to stop myself spending!!
Got sent a special voucher by firebox.com yesterday as i hadnt used a previous one they sent me they doubled the value for 48 hours only.. to £6. So i just looked on their site at all the £10 and under items and could only see 2 things i liked. a cushtie for £9.95 and a money box in the shape of a keyboard key for £4.95 thinking along the lines of the cushtie will still cost me £3 + delivery i opted for the moneybox.. turns out they deducted some of the P+P with rest of the voucher so it only cost me £2.90 instead of £8.90 so bargain really.................. UNTIL you think - if they hadnt sent me the voucher i wouldnt have bought ANYTHING! :rotfl: doh!
Least i have somewhere to keep my Pin money next year0 -
Morning all :xmassmile
It's soooooooooooooooo nice to still be in my dressing gown! I have had breakfast and a shower, so I haven't been too lazy. I was supposed to be popping to Wilkos in a nearby town, but I figure that if I go there, I'll only spend money. Not a good thing! I'll go next week when hopefully there are fewer crowds of people.
I need to make sure that I'm around for watching Make Me Rich. I haven't seen it yet, and apparently I missed Martin on Watchdog last night? How dare I? Grrrr. If only I'd known, I wouldn't have gone round to friends for supper.
I do need to attack the ironing pile today - not much on it, but a couple of duvet covers that will take forever. Where are the little pixies that usually iron them. I think that one of them is called OH!
Jo - it sounds like your OH needs telling again that even though you're doing all the bread winning, it's not much fun seeing him not even help around the house OR look for a job. There are plenty of jobs out there, not all of them necessarily his dream job, but something to get you both a bit more "comfortable". We've all got to start somewhere. (((((hugs)))) to you Jo!
PP - have a great day at the zoo! I haven't been to a zoo for ages. Then again, I'm now wanting to go to a zoo in New York having watched Madagascar with the children in my class yesterday!
Have a good day everyone.

Hello all, I've not posted for a while so it's nice to be back. Today I'm looking after my nephew as well as my own two, but I've sent them outside to play. So I've marzipanned (sp) the Christmas cake, and made some icing so it can stand until tomorrow. I usually buy ready to roll icing but it's got hydrogenated oil in which we're trying to avoid, so it's a new experience to make some - don't know if it's right though, it looks a bit sloppy! Might make pastry later for mince pies and shove int in the fridge to use at a later date. Am working everyday from tomorrow until Christmas eve - finishing at 6 o'clock then - ah the joys of shopwork - so I'll wish you all a fantastic Christmas in case I don't get time to pop back on. Best wishes to you all, soba.0

Happy Solstice all,
Today I am working from home - marking.
We will be having mock venison this evening (pot-roasted beef) so I have been busily chopping the 2nd set of veg for the last half hour (it has been sitting in marinade for the last 24 hours). I don't like celery normally, but it works really well in this recipe. Shame I couldn't find juniper berried anywhere.
I think the mice (or something) in the attic have wised up to traps - the reset ones haven't been touched at all. Could also be they're scared away - the repaired heating is noisier than i remember it & i cleared up all the droppings. I say "or something" since if it is mice they're very fat - it's not a scuttling that can be heard from the attic it's a thumping.
This evening wil be spent doing nothing at all. I don't care how much marking, housework etc still neds doing: at 7pm I quit for the evening.Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!0
