Or melt it over a lit candle - that way the melted excess will also 'fix' the advent candle into the bottle.

Hello all, time for me to join in OS. I've spent the past couple of weeks reading as many posts on this board as possible, and I've picked up loads of great ideas on how to change the way I do things, so thanks to everyone who posts here!

Washing machine is now on its second load for the day, I've got to unload the dishwasher, fold the clothes that are in the TD, and mop the kitchen floor because my little darlings have had great fun covering it in muddy foot prints!

I also have to tidy the study, but I keep getting waylaid by the computer, who beeps at me to check MSE to make sure I'm not missing out on any great hints, tips or bargains.

Oh yes, and I'm making soup for tea because the thread on soup has reminded me how much I love the home-made stuff!

Good question, and there are several theories about this. The first is simply that they bury their nuts willy-nilly in lots of different places within their territory. The second is that they have a very keen sense of smell, although if that were true then any squirrel would be able to find the stash. The third is that, although to us they appear to bury them randomly, the squirrel is following some kind of pattern that it can memorise and therefore will remember where it put them. I think there are still some scientific studies going on to see which theory proves to be truest.

Gosh, my days of studying animal behaviour have left remnants of information still intact in my brain, despite the fact that I thought having two young children had all but turned it to jelly!

    Hi everyone
Have got a busy day today- had my final session for the term at college this morning which is proving to be a very interesting course. Am in true OS tradition taking in a flask of coffee to keep me away from the vending machines.
I shall pop in the town enroute to school and sort out a few bits. I'm picking up the tape of the first Harry Potter book from the library which I shall listen to even if the small person doesn't and it's free!! Then it's a quick whizz home, make the lunches and sort out tea. Gammon tonight with some of the fresh half price pineapple I got from Lidl before dropping the small person off at Beavers and me coming back to work.
Tomorrow I'm helping out at the Christmas Bazaar, Saturday we're visiting my lovely SIL and Sunday we're going tree dressing and borrowing our friend's family membership card so we get in free. Not much OS going on over the next few days methinks!! ;)

I have a lovely Advent candle but nothing to put it in - my candlesticks have gone AWOL. Anybody think of anything I could use instead? (Base of candle is just a touch too big to fit in a wine bottle).[/QUOTE]

You could melt the candle end and cement it onto a old plate and then decorate with a ring of holly, laural, mistletoe etc. We have a five candle Advent ring in Church which is decorated like this and it looks great. HTH

freya - I would invest in a set of measuring spoons. I find the ones they give you with the BM's are harder to use than the individual ones. Also, I measure out my oil in the BM set, whcih I can then chuck in the sink for washing and I measure my dry ingredients in the other spoons. I have a set of 4 plastic ones on a little ring, which I've had for years - I'm sure they aren't expensive.

Just been to Aldi and Lidl - went for jam and some item I couldn't think of when I got there, and have spent over £100  However, I have got Xmas pressies for my sister, BIL, 4 of the boys I look after/ bring home from school, as well as a pair of thermal boots for me (now we are guaranteed to have a mild winter :D) Also have bought both shops fake Baileys :) Just trialling the Aldi one in my coffee - it's not as nice as the Lidl one IMHO, even if it is cheaper.

Didn't get any finger bandages - didn't go near a chemist, but would have forgotten anyway.

MATH - when you said you were a 'colourist', I thought you only meant on Mrs MATH. Is this a sideline of yours then? Inviting the neighbours in for a coffee and a colour, eh? :rotfl: When you've a minute, pop over here too, there's a darling. I'll supply the Baileys coffee.
