  • Last night we had snow - I went to sleep very hopeful and then when I woke up - it's raining. Still, I'm still bouyed from yesterday's luck. Last night I decided to be ultra frugal and did sausage in the oven with potatoes anna and carrots - all cooked in the oven so only one source of gas usage - also heated the mince pies in there for desert. I can't abide putting an oven on for one thing....... anyway, tonight I shall be making chicken a la cas (from the student grant cookbook - an invaluable find many years ago on the bottom reduced section in waterstones....). I will however have to use the MWV to defrost the chicken as I forgot to take it out this morning before I left - d'oh. I also have to go on the market and buy some more veg and OH will be collecting my DVD player. OH is also driving for a wedding today (I know....) so that will be £25-30 for the pot plus any tip he gets. Y'know when we got married we tipped the drivers as that's what it says to do in the etiquette books my Mother left me. He's driven for weddings all over the summer and has had one tip - and he's done about 50 - are we a nation of cheapskates - don't answer that one considering where we are :snow_grin . I am the only one on my floor at work - there is one GP in and one receptionist and that's it - no doubt I will be rushed off my feet again like yesterday  Still, then I can have a break from this arduous job!!!!
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Dusting of snow on the ground here, but I think it's now raining. I am still in my PJs & have no intention of getting dressed all day. I am chock full of a cold/nasty cough, so planning to do very little. The bed needs changing, but it won't kill us to sleep in it one more night if I don't have the energy to change it. I might muster up the enthusiasm laster.
Bought FILs Xmas present in Boots yesterday for half price - haven't seen that side of the family yet, so no point paying full whack!
OH wants sausage & bean casserole for tea, so I really ought to go get the beans in to soak & get the bangers out of the freezer.
  • sorry forgot to say - woollies have got a fab christmas card sale on - no stickers on their wrapping paper so i didn't buy just in case. All £3.99 boxes are £1.99 so now we have next year's cards :rudolf: by the way, does this count as pin money savings or is it only coupons and the like? Actually, I also found in my purse yesterday a £5 voucher from the Linda McCartney range for a bottle of Kumala wine. I'm going to go to the offy and get the one so darn near to £5 - even perhaps going over by a few pence - I hate it when you have coupons and you don't get change ..... i also said to OH last night that we should get some presents from play.com or other sales and put them away for next year as we don;'t know what the money situation will be by then...... HE AGREED (crikey!!!)

Washing machine is on - dishwasher seems to be draining a bit better now so fingers crossed.

Sausages in oven ready for sandwiches for breakfast.

May take washing to laundry to get it dry which I try to avoid.

If can talk DH into it will visit large Sainsbury for any bargains.

    Morning all

DH didn't sleep very well last night - kept tossing and turning so I had a bad night too....wide awake at 5am then woke with a jump at 8am! Popped my head through the curtains and yep -- more snow - bored of snow now! So windy and snowy that we've easily had another 2 inches.....it's a bit more sleety now tho so hopefully it won't last. Can't even see where the car's moved from the drive and the gardens all blanketed again, no foot prints at all.

DD's are playing happily and watching dvds in their pj's, I've had a lovely hot bubbly bath (from my pamper kit DH bought me) and got into clean pj's - don't see the point in getting dressed - not likely to see a soul today.

I don't have a full load so no washing today - all the ironing is done and put away. Need to empty DW and put it all away.

Made quiche last night for tea but had so much stuff to use up that I ended up making 3 large ones, 2 for the freezer and the leftovers for lunch today. consequently used all my eggs and cream up but will have to venture to a shop tomorrow for some fresh stuff. Got friends flying over from Belfast tomorrow morning to join us for New Year and some friends closer to home coming too. Planning on doing a vat of chilli, some HM pizza and garlic breads and nibbles.....got lots of bits in but no onions or peppers or kidney beans to start the chilli off with...always find it nicer if you make it the day before.

Sorted out some of our budget last night - based on DH's new payrise we're back in the green (phew) and should be able to start clearing things really quickly.

    New Years Aims.

To clear £9k of debt (it's not all of it but it's achivable)
    To become even more OS
To move house (DH's company are moving this year so it's enevitable)
To completely streamline the running of the house.
    To exercise more
To eat more fruit (nasty stuff - give me veg anyday)

I've not included any new clothes for anyone in this years budget as we simply don't need them - DD's will need shoes but I aim to pay for those out of PMS money. I've got £57 in various gift vouchers too and a couple of DVDs to return that DD's got doubled for Xmas, will use that money to buy any birthday pressies I'm missing and for any emergancies that crop up.

I hear that kettle calling.....have a good one all.

Horrid morning here, its chucking ot down and the sky is that awful dingy grey colour.

  • Morning all,
thanks vastsarah for the dla info. I checked my bank account, and I too have got my dla money early. Makes me feel a bit more solvent after the Christmas spend-up.
Made a huge bucket of soup yesterday and used most of my fresh veggies up. Good job too as looking out of the window it is white and icy again. I hate the snow it keeps me anchored indoors. Still I shall try to use my enforced imprisonment to good use. I will try to de-tox my little computer room, as it is building up to a bit of a squash in here.
I have treated myself to a new printer ,but that doesn't arrive till next Tuesday. I could also start my course work for my GCSE Law.It's just getting motivated,at the moment looking out of my window it looks like the snow is in for the day,so I might just as well get started. Hope everyone is warm enough, I've got my heating on full blast ,it keeps my joints moving. I shall bring a flask of soup upstairs with me when I get stuck into the clearing up.Saves all that up & down the stairs.
    Have a good one folks

    Morning all! :santa2:

Rather dark, dreary and wet here even though it's late morning! Never mind, the bulbs will soon be coming up in the garden and Spring is on the way!!!! :j :j :j

Went to Bluewater on Weds and actually found some clothes that fitted well! Pretty skirt in M&S Sale, also jumper from there and skirt from Wallis, those sadly not in Sale but they look good and I really needed them. Having lived in trousers in winter for so long, I'm looking forward to wearing skirts now that I've got some long boots! Tempted by baby clothes for expected grandchild, as there are so many reductions, but didn't buy any in the end as DD2 is only 9 weeks pregnant ATM so will wait a bit longer. :p Oh okay, maybe just a couple of tiny white outfits! She reckons it's a boy, as her friend has some sort of ancient chart that predicts which sex a baby's going to be according to mum's age, time of conception, etc. Apparently she's tested it on nearly 50 people and it's only been wrong once! :snow_grin

PP - hope you get on okay at the hospital. You must get so fed up sometimes yet your posts are always cheerful, kind and helpful.(((hugs)))

CQ - if you're back on line! So glad you got your move, and to hear good news of your DS. Wishing you every happiness in your new home!

JackieO - glad to hear your arm is better!

Glad most people seem to have enjoyed their Christmas. And for those who didn't - well, at least it's only once a year! And I've bought next year's Christmas cards in the Sales too....bet that by the time next Christmas comes, I'll have forgotten about them and will buy more!

In case I don't get around to posting in next couple of days, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! and may 2006 be a better one.

    ivyleaf xx :rudolf:
