  • Hello everyone.

I am new to posting though have been reading for sometime.

Now a New Year is on the way I feel ready to start my money-saving.

First stop is menu planning and know that this will really impact on my (new) budget. Next is giving up smoking (not looking forward to that one!).

Anyway wont go on much longer, not been very o/s today as took children to see Cheaper By The Dozen 2 (was ok).

Tom plan to catch up on housework and paperwork whilst children play happily with their new toys. Completely wishful thinking!

Woohoooo! Apple pie was delish too! Am stuffed tho.... Now to work on the SC recipes. Bought one a few months ago and used it once....not that impressed with the results - was s'posed to be a Hungarian Goulash (followed the recipe from the SC book) but was very bland and the meat seemed....boiled.

Off to iron the bed linen and put it back on the bed.....OS again! Yaaaay!

  • Hi everyone,

Thought I'd post before going to bed as I'm feeling exhausted today. Went into town as the boyf got a watch for Xmas and wanted to get it resized. I got a diary and address book from The Works as part of my New Years resolution to become more organised.
The MSE book came today and I've been reading through it which has inspired me to start planning our budget. I've also been speaking to boyf and we've decided that we're going to have a month each where we're completely in charge of the money. Think he's going to have Jan and I'll have Feb - so will have to se how that goes.
Have bought a few bits in the sales, but not too much as there's nothing I desperately need.
Whilst I was in town I nipped on the sunbed as boyfs mum bought me some sessions for Xmas, managed to burn myself even though I only went on for 6 mins. I feel pretty stupid sat here boiling with a sunburnt face while there's snow outside!!
I've also contacted Yorkshire Water to see if we can change to go on a meter, should hopefully hear from them in the next couple of weeks. Looked online and reckon we should save about £100 a month by converting to a meter.

  • We've had a productive day toady! Finally got around to re-engineering the kitchen to take our recently aquired MIL castoff freebee dishwasher (YAY!) I won't miss the washing up one bit!. Had leftover turkey and stuffing with chips for tea. There's still enough turkey left for a turkey korma tomorrow :)

Just need to clean the gerbils out now.

today (and last night) ive been decoratin my kitchen.. filling cracks and holes... painting paintwork, painting walls - havent finished but it already looks million times better!

Most O/S thing i did today except reheating my bolognese from the freezer... was to come to mums and get about £4 worth of groceries that i really needed.. offered to give her a token £1 instead of taking them for free like she said to. Feel rubbish taking free stuff off her all the time and shes fed me all of christmas!

(((((johanne))))) Hope you manage to get back to sleep when you return from the PO! ((hugs))

    :j Welcome 'Home', CQ! :j
Sounds like things are on the up for you at last - delighted to hear it :):):)
No washing to do here, but stacks of ironing (I've deliberately left it ... it'll warm me up instead of having to have the heating on any higher - as johanne said, it's quite, quite chilly this morning).

Need to help D10yo with some practise tests - 11+ exam soon after he goes back to school and the 'nerves' are kicking in for him; think he needs a bit of reassurance and the practise tests will definately give him some academic reassurance and get his mind back into it.

Haven't spent any money since before Christmas so can't boast any "savings/deals/sale buys". Did forget to take the milk out of the freezer the other night, so yesterday morning was quite interesting floating the milk in a bowl of water ... only to find it froze the water rather more than 'defrosting' the milk ;)

Later, I hope to have the enthusiasm to get some sewing out - but right now, just the thought of getting the machine out and locating all the necessaries is making me think twice LOL

Have a great day everyone, ((hugs)) to all who need them.

    Morning everyone

Johanne, sorry to hear you can't sleep. That anti-histamine might just knock you out when you least expect it. I find that even some of the non-drowsy ones sometimes have me snoring my head off.

My eyes snapped open at about 4.30 am this morning - it's become quite a ritual now, my waking at around that time nearly every day. I tend to stay awake for a couple of hours then manage to resume sleeping, which isn't a brilliant plan on a work day but OK on a holiday day. Perhaps if I just stay up and don't go back to sleep I will tire myself out more and possibly break this v.v.annoying habit and actually stay asleep for more than four hours. So I will have a shower in a moment and get dressed to my shoes, Flylady style.

I was supposed to go on holiday today, but I have chickened out... Weird I know but had a bit of an anxiety attack yesterday and cancelled the cat hotel, and phoned my friends who I was staying with. They are actually on holiday at the moment so I couldn't get hold of them, so I will have to try again later on. I do feel better - less nervous and jittery - for having cancelled my plans. I know I am silly and shouldn't give in to my nerves but I was getting far too stressed over a holiday, it's better for me just to stay at home and hide.

Later on today I will be making Caterina's Bolognese sauce - took the mince out of the freezer last night, just have to go and buy some celery and a carrot. I have accumulated some boxes for the freezer so I'll fill those and therefore have quite a few evening meals available for January.

Another job for today is to look at Martin's suggested list for things to do during the holidays. I really really have to get my credit cards sorted out. I am v.fortunate to have paid off my mortgage, but am really quite stupid for letting the credit cards just sit there with big balances on. I have been afraid of them I have to admit - when I first started going into depression about two years ago I went through a phase of not opening mail and forgetting to post things - madness when the money was in my account to pay my bills. So I think I have rather upset my credit score, due to being ill rather than being a bad customer. I am much better now, but hope I can get replacement cards at decent rates in spite of the blips in my recent credit history.

Happy birthday to JamieDoger's eight year old...eight is a fabulous age don't you think!

Curry Queen...how did your move go?
