    Nope.

I am someone who is not happy with my postman taking liberties and breaking the rules just to make life easier.

Over the past 3 years much mail has gone missing, turned up at the wrong address.
The wrong mail has been delivered. Items have been stolen from envelopes.

All of the above are or have been under investigation.

Perhaps my experiences have coloured my views somewhat, but if I don't sign for something I sure as hell don't want my postman doing so.

You are seriously unlucky to have had so many incidents. I hope such serious accusations can be backed up.

okay, yup posties shouldnt sign for any items
i advise posties not to do it at all

when i did walks i used to do it for those i knew however the climate in RM has changed and RM will happily get shot of any fulltime or part time member of staff they see fit
as you can see on this thread everyone wants everything, some want it signed, some dont, some are happy to collect, some are not
same goes with those wanting RM to make a profit, open market yada yada
yet whine when they get charged for an underpaid item, unofficial redirection etc

as for writing a letter to the delivery office, that might work in a small delivery office but not in one the size of my own
we cover 4 postcode areas so keeping track of this wouldnt be possible

Of course - I would not and do not make such allegations lightly.

If you are truely incensed by his fraudulent actions (signing to say you have accepted the item) you do have a leg to stand on fraud is fraud whether he is doing you a favour or not. As far as it goes with delivering times, i recently contacted Royal Mail regading the lateness of our postie by their regulations all post should be out and delivered by 2pm - we are lucky if he has been near by that time. One of our posties faults is that he is constantly on his mobile fone, if he put the blessed thing away he would be done in half the time, but he plods along like he has not got a care in the world texting away and making calls and because of this he does not read the mail correctly so we are often popping round neighbours to drop of their mail and retreive our own. My main reason for complaint was because we had received two letters from a bank one hapened to be a credit card and the other was the pin (i know this because the lady thanked us for our honesty in returning it to her) this to dishonest people could have been a shopping heaven.

In regards to you saying you have not received an item just because you personally did not sign for it would also equal fraud and is another reason why items from places like catalogues are so extortionate, to cover costs of things that are supposedly lost in transit.

2pm is the target however the actual final regulated time is much later
typically i cant find the link to the rules :o but its something like 4pm for town and 5pm rural IIRC
this allows for duties covered in overtime, delivery problems, new starts etc

where do i stand if i try and say they have never turned up

The postie does you a favour and you are thinking about shafting him so that you can say the goods never arrived and so get them for free? Nice.......... just another sign of how low society is stooping in the UK.

To all of those that still have a problem with the postie.....you can arrange to have your mail left at the sorting office to be picked up by you

    Totally agree

I wonder what the OP now has to say for themselves..... I hope they are ashamed of what they were considering

i just wanted to say that the OP never actually said they wanted to break the law by saying they hadn't received something when they did, i think they were just saying that in the actual case of not receiving something and it had been signed for in the past by the postman, where do they stand. I don't think it's very fair to jump on someone when there are two ways to take what they said.

Personally, even tho i know the postie, they would still leave a card and i'm fine with that, it's just procedure and i have no problem with walking the mile to the sorting office to get it. Other delivery drivers on the other hand, have left my parcels on the door step and in the bin, which i haven't been so happy about.

I don't really see it as the postman doing me a favour my postman leaves my parcels on the doorstep and last year we were broken in to after he did this because some one walking past knew we weren't in! Not only did they steal my parcel they stole my tv, video, jewelly and some of my sons birthday presents. So I wouldn't say him leaving the parcel on the door step was doing me a favour.
  • I'm a Postie myself & was told by our Manager not to do "favours" for any customer
Should a customer want a parcel left in a safe place then they would have to write to Royal Mail informing them of this and to accept all responsability for any such item should it go "missing" (so RM don't have to pay out compo)
It's strange though because i've had quite a few customers asking me to "leave my parcels in the shed postie" but when i tell them of "the new rules" they say "don't bother then"
here's the thing can they not be bothered to write a small note & post it to RM? (no stamp required)
or do they wan't the parcel left by the postie & if someone pinches it postie's is to blame (reprimanded or even sacked) & they get their compo because it's left unnofficially
as a Postie i would love to leave parcels for customers it makes life whole lot easier for me & the customer but it's straight forward i can't afford to lose my job (and they would sack you) & you would hope that a customer would not want you to loose your job
so help out your postie by writing to your local delivery office if you would like parcels left in a safe place or with a neighbour (remember no stamp required) or are you just someone who likes the best of both, leave my parcels but i'm not to blame?
