Can my postman do this
Comments

My regular postman does this and its a relief, when there's a temp I end up having to traipse to the sorting office at an inconvenient time. I'm grateful he does.0

hes helping you out though isnt he

MY postie knows me really well and he doe this me ... and I think he is a wonderful human being. Infact my sorting office postie is kind enough to hold my larger parcels and he drops them off on his way home as he knows someone will be in by then. Not sure where to put this but here goes,we seem to have a postie who can arrive any time between 11am and it has been as late as 5.00pm anyway i ordered some goods which required a signiture so guess what my postie signed for them and posted through my letter box.I thought it was a bit strange but thought no more about it until today when i realised he has noe done this 3 times where goods need to be signed for and he signs himself and posts the goods is he just being helpfull do i raise the matter and where do i stand if i try and say they have never turned up
There will be a record of the signature used to sign for the goods - signed for does not mean that it has to be signed for by the addressee. If you say you never received any goods then it will come down to his word against yours.
We have two posties, one is a pain in the....er.....neck as he posts cards left right and centre (I'm sure he hangs around outside waiting for me to pop out for 5 mins so he can rush in and deliver his card!!), there is nowhere to park at the depot so you have to double yellow line it while you nip in and wait in the 20 min queue to be seen and the opening hours are very restrictive.
We have another postie who is a lovely lady who has signed for things for me and leaves things in our safe place (unofficial). She saves me time and trouble and and I'm always pleased when I get a little handwritten note telling me that she has left a parcel.
If you don't like it then let your postie know that you'd rather collect from the depot in future and please don't consider spoiling the system for the rest of us by trying to defraud someone by pretending their parcel never turned up or by complaining about someone, who in the end, is trying to do you a favour.

my postman left my parcels in the bin, and a note to say he had done so. While I appreciate I didnt have to try and organise a redeliver for when I was actually in, putting them in the bin was not on.

I am sure that in the T&C of Recorded Delivery it states that the item may be signed for by someone other than the addressee.0

Hi,
my Postie sometimes does this.
I don't mind if he then posts the item through the door, but if it is too big then he just leaves it on the step.
Cheers,

Postie should know better than signing for someone else ..... Im afraid the latest Management are concerned with COSTS only, not customers, (though Rmails customers are those paying for the mail not those who receive it)!! and are actively looking to reduce staff levels for offences such as this one. Up to 3 years ago i would leave parcels with neighbours etc as i knew every person on the round i grew up on - but a fellow postie tried to be helpful as previous reply and it cost him his job!!! No more trusting joe public who often claim goods never arrived etc......My advice is to write to your local delivery office manager setting out what you would like to happen to your sign fors, parcels etc, so that both you and the postie are covered for any event outside your request. Trust me posties - you can lose your job for trying to be helpful - cover yourselves and get written instructions you can later rely on etc.....Then you can still be helpful without the worry - even signing for an item is acceptable if the customer has given written consent.
Hope this helps.

From the Royal Mail website
Will I always get a signature and does the person named on the address label sign for the item? We make sure we get a signature from whoever receives the item, but bear in mind that this may not be the person named on the address label. If there's nobody available to sign for the item and the item is not collected or redelivery rearranged within seven calendar days, we return your mail free, with a note saying why we can't deliver it. On the rare occasions that we don’t get a signature for any other reason, we'll refund your money.
The above is directed at those who wish to pay for the service, however the basic truth is that the postman cannot sign for an item he/she is delivering.
They should not be doing it and you are well within your rights to complain to the RM, as I would do and have done just last week,0 -
as a postie, i do often post recorded mail if it'll fit, never specials though.
i dont have a regular duty so i dont get to know all customers, but some do ask me to do this, if i remember thats another thing!
only this week when i was walking up a road, a lady asked me from across if she had got anything needing signing as she was going out, i didnt have any parcels in my bag so i said no, when i got up and down to hers there was a recorded letter so i just posted it,
its if the regular postie knows and trust the person,
but we shouldn't do it, but most say its a pain to get down to pick it up so they're grateful0
