Mix with equal quantities of sage & onion stuffig (rehydrated of course). Put into a casserole dish, top with mashed potato & bake like a shepherds pie. VERY tasty, VERY inexpensive. I use skinned good quality sausages because I haven't got a local supplier of good sausagemeat & one per person is plenty.

I bought a roll of sausage meat for HM saus rolls. The OH hates it. He likes sausage rolls usually but he hates this meat. Is there any way I can tart it up or disguise it ?
The harder I try to be moneysaving, the more I seem to waste..
  • Chop it up small and add it to savoury dumplings along with some onion or garlic, maybe herbs too? chuck 'em in a bean stew 20-30 mins before the end. Don't tell him it's in there!

Sainsbury's have a great herb dumpling mix, or you can make your own with suet and self-raising flour. (Sorry if I'm teaching granny, it's hard to know everybody's level of cooking skill).

What does he say is wrong with it?
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

Make a stuffing for xmas, add breadcrumbs & herbs etc & he won't know the difference. Freeze in a bag until you are ready to use.

    Hi mardatha,

There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas for using sausage meat that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

I tried the meatballs & herbs thing--he says its too spicy. Sigh..
  • Sausage meat on its own is widely available and certainly at this time of year. Look in the chiller cabinets in all the major supermarkets or ask the butcher - remember as with all meat, the better the supplier, the better the quality!!

  • Just got 8 packets of sausage meat reduced from ASDA, but now what do I do with it?

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it
