I installed the Malware program. It found quite a few things, which I deleted. The Norton page asks me lots of questions about which version I have which I have no idea about - I can see that there's something by Symantec on my system, but Norton? And on the Norton link there's no mention of Symantec.

Anyway, the system seems more stable recently. What is really bugging me now is the fact that the Internet connection keeps dropping, and it takes ages for the TalkTalk program to get it back.

Don't worry about the version, as you are not interested in saving the Product Key. Norton Removal Tool Click on the link and go directly to Step 3.

OK, thanks. I've done this now. Hopefully all that will sort out the instability issues. Now for the connection problems...

We need a list of 'start up' programs and after the start up a list of 'running processes'

Is it you that posted about the monitor problem too? As in it sometimes fails to start at boot up? If so this could all be down to your power supply just not being upto the job.

Also, did you install a SECOND hard drive? Or is it just the one? (IF the power supply is the culprit, a second hard drive will make the problem even worse!)

Yes, that's me! As you can see, this PC has been quite problematic. If it wasn't for the wonderful quick broadband (when it does work!), I almost miss my old Win 95 job.

The monitor comes on, but then doesn't continue beyond the first screen with writing.

How do I do the lists?

CCLEANER has a 'start up list' (Tools, Start up)
HIJACK THIS has a list of running processes (Which youve used already), possibly ALSO has 'start up' list', I cant remember now (Long time since ive used it)
We need a new set of lists so we know where we stand now

    goto microsoft update center
    http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/
update EVERYTHING you can (including windows media player)
(if that link doesnt work, just goto UIPDATES straight from the XP link or google 'microsoft updates' and use the first link (needs to be through internet explorer)
